Check out the picture of Mark Martin's car on top of the acticle page. I look at the car and I find it pretty good looking.

Notice though that there are two elements that have been cropped out of the frame: the splitter and the wing. All it would take for NASCAR to make their cars likeable again is to just do exactly like the photographer did, just chop off the splitter and the wing (and put a spoiler of course).

The wing was added for a reason though...the car is such a turd aero-wise, they needed the added stability.

I use to hate them, but now I dont mind them. The old cars didn't look right either.

They should make a template the FITS the showroom car, then run that. If Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Toyota is slow because of Aero, then they better get busy making a better car.

To heck with this "sorta template crap"!!! "Stock" car racing has not resembled their namebagdes in years. I say run 'em like they look in the showroom. I guess they had better get busy making some two door coupes. Those guys are going to look funny racing 4-door sedans. Well I guess no more funny than racing around in the shoeboxes they are now.

There was an excellent segment on NASCAR NOW yesterday with Cale Yarborough and Joey Logano talking about Darlington and the changes to the track and the cars since Cale quit driving. Cale told Joey that they used to go get their cars from the local dealership, put in a big radiator, roll bar, paint 'em up and go racin'!

Well they will never look like true "stock cars" again. In the start, the drivers drove their cars to the track, changed tires and ran them. Best tuners and drivers won.

As the dollars have increased, my interest has dropped.

....bodies are a funny thing...

At our local Saturday Night DIRT TRACK - we had a class called "Street Stocks", it was a SUPER Popular class, but the rules started getting away and the $$$ being spent went through the ROOF....of course the class entry number started to DIE.

3 years ago the cars still used STOCK Camaro body panels....

NOW they look like THIS

I liked the days back in the 80's and 90's when you had Thunderbird's, Monte Carlos and the Pontiac Gran Prix. They more resembled the stuff coming out of Detroit, and who can forget all the whining about who had the aero advantage.
Since NASCAR went to the aero equal cars, I have lost interest. At least with the new car, it takes some of the aero out and puts the driver back in.

My two cents!

Street Stocks anywhere have always seemed to be the class everyone loves to push the envelope on rules. When that happenes, the tracks give in more and more and suddenly you have a class that spins out of control. It's no different anwhere...

My first street stock... Car $2500, Motor $1500 2002

My last street stock... Car $11000, Motor $7800 2006

Fast forward to 2009.... A whole lot more money, a whole lot more fun even though I don't get to drive this one.

COT's look like some kid's touring car that lost its front bumper cover.

The last time I was at the World 100 at Eldora, the winner drove an old Chevelle with a vinyl top. Look at what they race there now.
