View Full Version : Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country @ Most theaters FRIDAY MAY 8 Old Ghosts 05-05-2009, 05:09 PM One day only Friday May 8 - check your local theater schedule  PhilipMarlowe 05-05-2009, 05:17 PM I dunno, I know everybody is trek-crazy this week and they're hoping for tie-in audiences, but imho Wrath of Khan would have been a better choice for a big screen re-release. Eric K 05-05-2009, 05:39 PM They had to up the quotient of long passages discussing or debating inter-alien relations. .......see: http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=253769 ThisGuy 05-05-2009, 06:45 PM Another well-deserved slap in the face of Nemesis. Old Ghosts 05-05-2009, 09:39 PM If you've seen The Undiscovered County, you'll remember the ending which basically hands the baton to The Next Generation, but seeing it now, they're kinda handing the baton to the new Star Trek. ThisGuy 05-05-2009, 10:25 PM I wonder if there was a close decision between this and Generations. It too, had a sense of closure, even after Kirk's death, with the line about future ships carrying the name. Jodet 05-05-2009, 11:33 PM Nick Meyer. Even-number. Yeah. This is good. Trekkie75 05-05-2009, 11:34 PM It should of been The Wrath of Khan. But The Undiscovered Country is not a bad choice, and is one of the even-numbered good ones. Gemini1999 05-05-2009, 11:35 PM This is rather odd.... I thought that I would do a local search for showtimes on 05/08/09 for ST VI to see where it's playing. I started with Fandango as that's my primary stop for looking up showtimes. When I searched via Fandango, I came up empty. I tried another search using Yahoo and I came up with showtimes at a few local theaters, so I thought that I was successful. The odd bit is that one of the theaters close to me has both ST XI and ST VI showing, but they only have 2 evening screenings of ST XI and a crapload of showings for ST VI all day long: http://movies.yahoo.com/showtimes-tickets/theaters/5771-ua-olympus-pointe-12/ Okay, this is where it really gets weird (or makes more sense IMHO). I went back to Fandango and looked up the schedule for that same theater on the exact same day and all of the showings listed on Yahoo as ST VI show up as non digital screenings of ST XI instead. The two screenings for ST XI that showed up on Yahoo on the first search turned out to be the only 2 digital screenings that day: http://www.fandango.com/uaolympuspointe12_aacxc/theaterpage?date=5/8/2009 Be careful if you're planning on seeing The Undiscovered Country out of a fit of nostalgia, because you're more likely to see the new film instead I don't really get the idea of listing one film and showing another, but I'm sure that it's some marketing tool to suck in folks that might not be interested in seeing the new film (I'm sure that there's a handful) and decide to see a classic Trek film instead. Bryan JeffG 05-07-2009, 09:40 AM This was definitely one of the better Trek outings in my opinion. When I first saw it years ago I was really impressed when the officers beamed aboard to assassinate the Chancellor. I thought that was the type of outside the norm action that Trek needed. ThisGuy 05-07-2009, 03:06 PM Yes, but I don't think they did nearly enough to redress the TNG Galxay class sets for this film. There's an impression of cheapness towards set design when those details are so evident on screen. justinleighty 05-08-2009, 10:34 AM Yes, but I don't think they did nearly enough to redress the TNG Galxay class sets for this film. There's an impression of cheapness towards set design when those details are so evident on screen. Wait, you mean the Eiffel Tower wasn't always outside of Ten-Forward? Or that it makes no sense to have the Galaxy Class warp core on the Enterprise-A? vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
