I just picked up the May 4th, 2009 issue of Newsweek at the grocery store and it has some of the very best Star Trek articles I've ever read in it. Lots of rememberances of the Original Series, and TNG, not a whole lot about the movie. The cover of the issue is someone holding what looks to be a partially completed TOS Enterprise up so that the sun is shining right behind it in a mostly clear sky. "TO BOLDLY GO... How Star Trek taught us to dream big"

Check it out!

Nicely written essay. I read it in the dentist office waiting room this morning.

I thought so too, especially loved the recollections about seventies Cons. I remember thinking back then, if I ever got hella rich, I was going to own all my favorite movies on Super 8mm.

The part about the Spock/Obama parallels was kinda interesting too, I had never thought about that before, but when it's all laid out it kinda makes sense. Fascinating.

On March 9, 1967, a live announcer came on at the close of an episode to make an unprecedented statement: " 'Star Trek' will be back in the fall. And please don't write any more letters."

I'd never heard that one before. :p Good article.
