Awesome pictures.
mtrucker 05-02-2009, 07:46 AM Didnt there used to be a rule years ago about having driver figures in sprints? I think it should be a rule again, the quarter scale sprints are the most realistic looking R/C cars out there and these pics prove it,,great pics, that last shot should be on the cover of all the big r/c magazines! with the caption under it saying "you know you want one:thumbsup:1/4 scale sprintcars with attitude.....

Bob krueger 05-02-2009, 10:13 AM MTRUCKER I totally agree, the cars look really complete with the driver figure in them, the problem is they seem to be harder to find than a 1 dollar gallon of gas.First off great job on the pictures Bob you guys understand what Sprint car racing is about.(in the dirt) hanging it sideways and right when its on the edge hammering on the trigger kicking up a roost and fliing down the straight.
Ive been doing that for years with the nitro sprint and would love to do it with the Q scale.
I looked at the local hobby store and they have a qscale pilot figure that might work, the only problem is with my pro one I have a K/N filter so by the time I would get done gringing to make a driver fit all that would be left would be the head and sholders. If there is ant info on where to get a driver figure I would be interested.
Bob please keep sending the great pictures,I can feel my trigger finger twiching with each shot. Bob Krueger
bobjeffreson 05-02-2009, 06:36 PM Hey MTRUCKER
Don't get me started on drivers in QS cars. I tried for years to make this mandatory without success. Some of the 1/10th scale classes that I was involved in 26 years ago, had a rule that you could not start a race until a driver was in the car. This rule was loose but enforced, meaning that if there was a helmet in its right place then that was enough. At speed the spectators saw something in the car. Only an illusion, but it worked! Someone was driving the car!
My current sprintcar has a driver. He's made out of 4 ply wood cut to the shape of head and shoulders. At speed, side on...looks like driver. Front on ..noone notices that he is less than a 1/4 inch wide...reduces drag....LOL.
Weighs nothing! Adds to the realism. I often hear spectators comments about "the guy driving the car".
My last car had a soft toy Spiderman [light weight] figure dyed black, cut off at the waist. Carved a BALSA helmet and fitted him in the car loosely, with one hand raised...."waving at the crowd". The comments were wonderful ...along the lines of ....
"Hey, look at this guy driving one handed and waving at the crowd....smart ass". That alone made the effort worth while! He may have to make a return stint in the seat....
And Bob, head and shoulders are OK and I've also used the Pilot figure. It works. Stick a slightly bigger home made helmet on him. Thanks for the encouraging comments.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g181/bobjeffreson/011-1.jpgHey Woody looks great driving that sprinter,in these parts we would say "hes really puttin the wood to it"I know its tough to be able to see drivers in stock cars but the open cockpit cars really need them in my opinion, You wouldnt run your sprinter without the rear tailcone because it would look funny right? Put a driver in there!I remember a few years ago I saw a sprinter at a Qsac race,it was a highly detailed car with a driver,if you watched the car closely on the track you would swear the driver was in there sawing at the wheel and moving his head
Sonny B 05-03-2009, 11:10 PM I agree sprint cars look much better with a driver.
I was talking with one of out air guys the other day and he showed me some cool pilot helmet and upper body section that I think I am going to put in my car.

Tim Mc 05-03-2009, 11:12 PM I always wanted to add a driver figure to my stockcar but couldn't figure the right scale?

I think the 30-33% form the link above may be more scale for our cars. I'll get a couple form work this week and test fit them.
Tim Mc 05-03-2009, 11:27 PM Thanks Sonny. They are nice but a little pricey so I would like to get it right the first buy. :thumbsup:I think the 30-33% form the link above may be more scale for our cars. I'll get a couple form work this week and test fit them.
Sonny B 05-03-2009, 11:33 PM Tm I’ll let you know what size works best. The un-painted versions are only about $25 so they are not too bad.
Bob krueger 05-04-2009, 11:19 AM Sonny that looks like something that would work well for me,I have a new pro-1 and between the gas and brake cables and the air filter theres not a lot of room, but as you and Bob have said as long as you can see the drivers head, that is more than enough.
Please let me know the part number for the one that looks best so I can order it
Thanx Bob Krueger
Sonny B 05-05-2009, 09:49 PM I tested two different sizes today. The 25-28% Pilot (HAN369) seems to be the most scale.
