SMS88 04-30-2009, 09:21 AM I bought these online- very rare for me to do but they only had 35 miles to travel to me.......all 4 for $60 shipped, with 3 cars mint (Lotus has light playwear) and minor damage to 3 boxes(price sticker removed from LandRover, loose endflap on Marzal which doesnt matter because I already have this box and a couple of nicks on Lotus box)
Now to compare the paint shades

Lummox 04-30-2009, 11:36 AM Oh yeah, good deal!!!
SMS88 04-30-2009, 05:03 PM http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-Apr014.jpg
My new Lotus (at the back nose to nose with an Iso in the same shade) is the most common medium blue shade which is very easy to find on regular wheels and thin SF wheels Iso Grifos.
These cars were all painted silver and then coated with a blue tinted clear laquer -coat thickness accounts for the medium and dark shades but perhaps not the light shade .....
In front are the lightest blue (htf on Isos & Lotuses) compared to the darkest blue (common -this car has been with me since I was 14) - I look forward to adding the new Mattel Superfast blue Europa to this lineup:wave:
RVREVO 05-01-2009, 03:30 PM I have to try that out... I have way too many lilac ones... and have a little trouble winning the blue lotus (sounds like a tintin book)
SMS88 05-03-2009, 06:36 PM The fine weather and the May day holiday brought out perhaps more diecast than I will see in one weekend over here, although there was little that interested me.........so I added these to the 4 boxed cars shown above....
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/Morris%20Marina%20TC/2009-Apr014-1.jpg
I dont collect the tiny scale 1950s Lesneys but at $2 each I couldnt resist this trio........The doorless Pontiac is the less common orange shade and I do have a beater to donate doors..........

Lummox 05-04-2009, 07:56 PM I allways like most of what you buy.
Please tell us more about the 1/43rd Porsche 906(?) and the Muira.
Also that little biege/tan rig next to the Group 6 (got an extra lime Group 6? :))
I think the Ford Group 6 is my favorite post transitional.

I think the Ford Group 6 is my favorite post transitional.
Its not easy for me to choose a favourite post-transitional - off the top of my head the gold 69 Rolls ,the wine coloured 12 Setra and the white 68 Porsche 910 are my greatest favourites..........
The 1/43 Le mans car is a Ferrari Dino 206 - the very first big Corgi casting to be fitted with Speedwheels at the end of 1969 - thin axles combined with the red nylon bush with diecast hubs and standard rubber tyres -great wheels! This car has lost both its front and rear deck spoilers although the paint is still decent - also made in red with both colours initially sent out to stores together. The Muira is also a Corgi, sitting rather high off the table because the baseplate was designed for golden jacks take-off wheels although when produced only these standard Whizzwheels were fitted - also issued in red at the same time, this Corgi isnt as nice as the Politoys version which sits just right!
The 1/66 tan car is a Schuco 1975 Audi 100 sedan in very nice shape.
Oddly enough this lime Group 6 is a big obvious easy to fill gap in my collection - having owned the dark metallic green version since childhood I have never until this weekend had the lime one - at 25 cents, the cheapest we ever see here and thats only a couple of times per year,it was a very good buy and there are still a few other easy to find Lesneys from my childhood period that I dont own yet like the 65 Harvester and 68 Hatra and wont until a near mint example shows up for chicken feed:wave:
What a great week of diecast blessings and now I dont expect to add anything much before mid September when toyfairs start again..........
Lummox 05-05-2009, 10:48 AM Ferrari, not a Porshe....woops! :o:o
Thanks for all the great info!
sschevyman1 05-07-2009, 03:25 PM Well done for sure!!!!1
The Moutain 05-08-2009, 05:38 PM Very nice scores. The 46 gold Mercedes from the first picture is a solid model.
The 22 Pontiac looks is good shape, just lost a door along the way. Don’t you have a blistered model without a door ? Maybe not a Pontiac.
At $2 I would defiantly pick up the early castings. I still have a few of the early models in rough shape.
You do have good overall knowledge of many diecast brands:)
great info and pics...thankyou
I love the early lensey stuff dont know why just do and try to pic them up everywhere I can
SMS88 05-11-2009, 07:40 AM http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/2009-Apr049.jpg
a street market here yesterday yielded these 3 (both lesneys 2 flea bites from mint) for a grand total of 10 crowns $1.50 when I dont usually expect to find anything nice.......
SMS88 05-16-2009, 06:26 AM This morning there were some fundraising for school trips flea markets here and I managed to visit 2 before the rains came. Here is what I bought today for my $30 well spent (includes a cast iron egg poacher for the wife!)
For the boxed 1982 Lesneys, I paid less than the original store sticker price which shows how diecast prices have fallen since 1982,still costing the same in numerical terms even if money generally has less than half of the purchasing power.....

Lummox 05-16-2009, 03:18 PM Nice gray wheels!
What's the green car bottom right - Opel maybe?
SMS88 05-16-2009, 04:07 PM Nice gray wheels!
What's the green car bottom right - Opel maybe?
Yes - its a late 1960s Opel Commodore by Zylmex - vhtf and odd that they made it with the side windows closed.......
PFACguy 05-16-2009, 04:33 PM Very nice. Luv that ambulance.
drummingbulldog 05-20-2009, 03:37 PM I love the land rover. I have always wanted one of those. The Europa is cool too. The new ones are cool too but not as cool as that one.
SMS88 05-20-2009, 05:10 PM I love the land rover. I have always wanted one of those. The Europa is cool too. The new ones are cool too but not as cool as that one.
The opening doors and working suspension do it for me:wave:
tampos or no tampos are no biggee........
SMS88 05-24-2009, 08:47 AM There was a lot of beater boxes out on the streets this weekend here, and some well loved gems have been dusted off for my collection or spare parts.
The prize is the Players please Routemaster in decent shape for $8, the only item here that cost more than pennies.
I never expected to find a genuine red SF 67 VW1600TL so this very well loved example is most welcome, and the first issue metallic blue icecream van is a gap filled in my collection even if the decals are a bit worn. The HongKong made Fiat X 1/9 with rubber tyres and the legend MADE IN HONGKONG is unbranded although its genuine 1980 Hong Kong registration plate is cast into the baseplate for reasons unknown.....

cool metalic blue ice cream truck and the route master bus is awesome with those decals....liking the vw too
congrats on your finds
Lummox 05-25-2009, 02:06 PM Orange sf #67...you lucky duck! HTF???
That'll go nice with your purple ones!
Wait, Ian Dury and the Blockheads??? Sweet!!! S&D&R&R!!!!!
SMS88 05-25-2009, 06:36 PM Orange sf #67...you lucky duck! HTF???
That'll go nice with your purple ones!
Wait, Ian Dury and the Blockheads??? Sweet!!! S&D&R&R!!!!!
Its a spanish sleeve original release of ´Hit me with your rythm stick´ not scratched for a mere 80 cents. I was lucky enough to see Ian Dury live only a couple of months before he died playing at our Roskilde festival on the same stage a little earlier than a very aged Debbie Harry
This orange SF VW is the only one I have ever seen in the metal and now completes my lineup of 3 shades of purple-grape, 2 shades of pink (narrow & wide wheels) plus both types of regular wheel so all I dont have from the standard issues are the wide arches car with skinny SF wheels - this is one of my favourite Lesneys as I had a grape example and a wide wheels pink one new as a child, and I well remember that the store called Fitzpatricks had both pink ww and grape skinny wheeled examples for me to choose from, but already having a grape car I chose the pink rather than anything else that they had in 1-75.Oddly enough I have zero childhood memories of purple 22 Pontiacs or red Berlinettas or yellow Setras but I did notice solid lime 53 Zodiacs and the change from opening doors to cast shut doors on the gold SF 46 Mercedes 300, both of which are less numerous today than Pontiacs and Berlinettas
SMS88 05-31-2009, 08:44 AM http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-May024.jpg
Another weekend of city residents putting out beater boxes on their street tables - afew rarities including the Jones code 4 no 3 Bedford tipper with 11x24 gray plastic wheels and the shell of a Majorette Peugeot 204 convertible. Both regular wheels Greyhounds came from the same woman, in amongst her 8 vintage diecast were these 2 two different variations(sticker v decal) and the blue Mercedes 230SL paired with a Lesney 27 230SL which I left behind.
Average cost was 80 cents each for this weeks selection
Luckily for me, the 2 rw greyhounds complete the label, wheel and window variations of this casting, all I miss and am not bothered with are the baseplate colours other than black

alex1485 06-01-2009, 12:14 AM those greyhound buses are hot!
Lummox 06-02-2009, 10:30 AM The 2000 GT looks like a real keeper, are those wire wheels???
RVREVO 06-03-2009, 12:44 AM If ever you feel the need to sell the red transitional Matchbox VW 1600TL, pm me...
SMS88 06-03-2009, 01:40 AM The 2000 GT looks like a real keeper, are those wire wheels???
The Toyota 2000GT has standard early 1970s Siku wheels with spoked pattern -this car is from the days when they issued all black tyres -this one is collectable but not a longterm keeper for me..........
SMS88 06-07-2009, 09:46 AM This box full of toys cost me $60 today -its the first time that I have been able to buy a whole box complete with cherries:)
The cars date from 2 eras, 1969-1971 and 1977-80, they came from a house clearance and may in fact have belonged to 2 brothers.A few interesting Lesneys, the only rare one being a blue VW with small size solid wheels (as found on Cortina GT & Opel Diplomat) ,the rain channel line above the back window and a distinct dip/shadow where the raised gas filler has been ground off the tool before it was professionally leveled.More comments on the 1743 stuff on the 1/43 forum
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June002.jpg
Note the Spanish copies of the 39 & 40 along with the Scammel tractor unit
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June003.jpg
and the box after most of the gems have been removed for cleaning - the not too beat up DAF car transporter is the very 1st Superfast issue having an unpainted baseplate and DAF sticker carried over from the last regular wheels issue
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June007.jpg
Lummox 06-07-2009, 12:48 PM Interesting mix fer shur - some of which probably never made it to the U.S.of A.
Good score on the blue bus - are you missing many transitionals Mick? You must have most by now, huh?
I'm only about half way there.
As always, thanks for sharing you good fortune with us, this has become a really great thread - always fun to see what you 4eners find! :)
SMS88 06-07-2009, 07:26 PM I do feel very blessed today, no doubts this is a strong contender for 2nd best find in o9 for me behind the reverse colour wrecker.
I have all the transitional castings but miss some of the colours - I still need thin SF wheels on brown 25 Cortina, white 8 Mustang, blue 46 Merecedes, blue 12 landrover,33 yellow Muira ,32 Aral and, 22 red pontiac & purple with opening doors + the regular wheels colours on the SF 58 girder truck,44 Refridgerator,53 Zodiac,64 MG1100 plus the hot pink and the salmon 56 BMC1800 to complete my collection. Plus almost 40 G boxes, so i have a lot of treasures still to track down for my Lesney display in the coming years.
And then i have never owned a 69 Hatra or 65 Harvester yet - one day mint ones will appear for pennies and that will be the day that I buy:cool:
SMS88 06-07-2009, 07:29 PM http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/bigsmallsolidwheels.jpg
dusrusg 06-08-2009, 10:19 AM That boogered up VW is a real treat, an interesting add to any collection, but what really grabs MY goat is the Scammell rig, and the ladder truck that's still buried... Any chance of more details and pictures?
SMS88 06-08-2009, 10:58 AM Yes, more coming soon, the Scammel cleaned up a treat, but the Corgi fire truck has ladder damage........
SMS88 06-08-2009, 09:05 PM Here are the blue Scammel and the green tractor & trailer from the box after a wash in soapy water seen alongside the Lesneys that inspired Guisval to make these higher spec copies - the spike on the green tractor driving seat must be there to accomodate the driver´s preferences

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June008-2.jpg
The 39 Tractor has been with me since the christmas when I was 8, and the trailer has been with me since I was 10 - not in bad shape at all considering..........both are Superfast era issues in lighter brighter blue

Lummox 06-09-2009, 09:15 AM A gripping tale of piracy and intrigue on the open diecast sea!
I'm curious to know if these are direct copies made by making a mold right from the Lesney castings or what.
Small differences can be seen on the Scammell.
The front roof overhang and the shape of the side windows are a little different.
Fun pix, SMS!!!
dusrusg 06-09-2009, 01:01 PM I'm lovin' on that scammell.... I just got into the king-size range, and one of my first is a washed up, beat down Scammell log truck, paired with the early round fender low loader... The scammell got stripped down and re-worked, and is patiently awaiting my finding a set of screws to put her back together again ( jb weld didn't hold after I "adjusted" the suspension spring..). If I can ever get her to hold herself together again, I'll get a pic to put up.
RVREVO 06-09-2009, 03:56 PM I can see a dozen cars and trucks in there I'd love to have
SMS88 06-13-2009, 07:07 PM Here are the last of the reasonable condition small scale from the box. The rw BP tanker is an upgrade for my childhood example, the sticker rather than decal Alvis is a new variation in my collection, the SRN6 Hovercraft nails a gap in my 1973 lineup and the Monteverdi with the less common black baseplate complements the bare metal baseplate of the other example already in my collection.....and then there is a plastic Porsche 912 ´made in Western Germany´

dusrusg 06-13-2009, 08:49 PM Can I see a pic of the fire truck, broken ladder and all? That's a model that really interests me, for some reason.
SMS88 06-14-2009, 06:48 AM Can I see a pic of the fire truck, broken ladder and all? That's a model that really interests me, for some reason.
Here it is - Corgi made around 1 million of these over its 10 year production life and this was the ultimate diecast for many small boys 1969-1979. Mint boxed ones with rubber tyres fetch very good money on ebay but loose playworn examples are cheap and relatively easy to find.I shall keep this one as aside from busted ladder, damage to rear control position and driver´s mirrors, the rest is intact and in good order. As a child I remember friends having these but I never did, having only a Lesney King Size K15 Merryweather as resided at my local firestation , preferring buses to firetrucks
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June012-1.jpg
dusrusg 06-14-2009, 04:35 PM Thanks!!!
Wow -- that is simply a very fun and well- built truck. I''m definitely going to be on the lookout for at least one of these.
Lummox 06-14-2009, 06:58 PM A lot there to keep a young mind active - mine too!
great box of diecast, congrats on finding it and sharing,I'm guessing it was a fun afternoon
SMS88 06-15-2009, 07:41 AM I do enjoy taking pix of toys and writing my thoughts, its one of the best parts of our hobby:wave:
The sun was out this weekend and so was I, and here are my finds - the Batmobile was expensive but being a ´67 early issue with only a few fleabites and tarnished wheel brass shy of mint. The wildcat Mustang has a green base, a new variation for me and the Caddy ambulance is the less common off white shade used on the 15 VW, and this is my first SF K15.........
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June015-1.jpg
very nice...I like the batmobile
RVREVO 06-15-2009, 03:45 PM That's the first time I see the Matchbox Super Kings ladder truck with Superfast wheels.
And the Batmobile looks superb... may I request better pictures of both please?
SMS88 06-18-2009, 07:14 AM That's the first time I see the Matchbox Super Kings ladder truck with Superfast wheels.
And the Batmobile looks superb... may I request better pictures of both please?
Here they are
There are 3 easy to find main variations on the MerryWeather casting - regular wheels issue was dark red with decals or light red with stickers, and then Superfast metallic red with stickers with the locker handles removed from the casting so that standard rectangular Kent stickers can be used instead of special cut-outs as shared with no 57 Land Rover firetruck
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June026.jpg
Seen here with my other example, the dust really does show with a flash:wave:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June025.jpg
SMS88 06-22-2009, 08:10 AM Nothing too special about this weekend - $13 for the second hand stuff , and our regular store price of $3 for a Hotwheels mainline allowed me to take this $uper hunt home on saturday morning.$2.50-$3 each retail for regular Hotwheels mainlines with no premium lines and no Matchbox of any kind is the price we pay over here so thankfully there are more than enough 2nd hand diecast to make collecting a fun hobby...........
Cheapest item was the Superkings Scammel crane truck which just needs a new hook to be very tidy - I remember these 8 wheeler chassis cabs being very common on the roads when I was a child, but this is my first K12
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June039.jpg
The gems are not Lesney this week
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June040.jpg
And for those with a political thirst , there was a seller offering these Italian gourmet beers, they must taste good enough to be exported around europe, but being a Guinness stout drinker I had no problems leaving these beers behind:wave:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June037.jpg
SMS88 06-28-2009, 10:20 AM $12 for this lot from the streets of my city this weekend.Nothing mint, nothing too special but all too nice to be trashed. The pink cab Ford D series is a new colour variation for me and the light blue tractor completes a set of 3 for me. Most of the others are duplicates of better examples in my collection....
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2009-June049.jpg
Lummox 06-28-2009, 11:41 AM 13 nice cars for $12? I'd say you done good!
I like that earliest color variation of the Lamborgini.
And what's the blue one on toppa the truck....I'm gonna take a wild guess - a Renault???
Mick, on the swap-sell board, I brought up an old add for transitionals back to the top for you to Czech out.
