After much anticipation by the WEST COAST Oval Racing Crowd, the 3rd Annual Allstar Shootout has come and gone.
There were several less racers taking part in this years event, with hopes coming in of a 40 car field of 21.5/LIPO cars shooting for the 20 spots open in the Shootout, only 24 racers were willing to take the challenge of fighting their way into the show.
The WILD Event format confused many racers, and simply frustrated others, while some found it facinating and really enjoyed it.
The cars ran a SINGLE CAR (4) Lap qualifying session which seated them in their qualifying heat. Each heat was made up of both fast and slow cars evenly, and the TOP 3 finishers from each of the 4 heats would transfer to the MAIN events filling the top 12 positons in the 20 car event.
ALL but one of the rest of the field would come from the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) with one driver using his "Past Champions Provisional" to enter the field.
For the 2nd year in a ROW the race director BOTCHED the 1st segment, which this year was scheduled to run 33 laps, but was cut short @ 25. However, the only thing the 1st segment was being used for was to line up the FINALE (and to WIN a Race/Prize)
The 2nd Segment is the race with ALL the glory and bragging rights, and Jason Hastings was in the catbird seat sitting on the POLE at the 250 meter high banked track.
When the TONE sounded to start this final 33 lap segment 19 cars were on the track to do battle. With a couple incidents in turn one, Hastings grabbed a quick and early lead that would never be challenged as he drove a clean race and made short work of the 33 laps taking his FIRST ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT Victory.
R/C's "Fastest Man in the WORLD" Nic Case rallied from the 15th starting spot to finish 2nd behind Hastings, with Brad Muther and John Miles battling for the 3rd spot. Scot Petitclerc would take the 5th spot for the 3rd straight year.
