Good day everyone:wave: This is my first post so forgive me if I leave anything out. Also, I have some mechanical ability.

I have a 1990 Craftsman riding mower with a 14hp B&S Vangaurd MDL#261777 engine. I developed a fuel leak, had been running great, from a small black tube (approx 1-2in long) at the carburetor bowl assembly just above where the fuel line goes into the bowl. It appears to be an overflow vent tube. Already drained the tank awaiting info. First, what is in the bowl? Second, can I fix it or is it something on the carburetor a pro should look at?

Thanks for any suggestions

Whats in the carb: You have a float, needle , seat, hinge rod and a 1 or 2 jets. Nothing complicated.
How to fix: Take the carb off (paying attention to how your linkages) remove the bowl nut and remove the bowl itself. (make sure your doing this over a sturdy flat surfuce working over a shop rag or something ) remove the hing pin for the float then pick the float straight up. Remove the needle from the float and shake the float near your ear to listen for sloshing or any noise at all. if you hear nothing then float is good. then replace your needle and clean it all out well with brake cleaner (stuff from walmart works good) dont use carb cleaner cause it will blister any o rings or seals (unless you plan on rebuilding the carb and replace all gaskets and seals)
Rebuilding or repairing small engine carbs isn't hard at all just needs a little patients and pay attention.

TIP:

Take a picture of the linkages before you start removing stuff. It might come in handy when you go to re-assemble (ask me how I know, lol)
