Hi Everyone,

Since there are couple collectors posting their Tomica cars I though I'd follow up with a few as well. These are my only Tomica cars, but I had them since I was in elemetary school over 20+ years ago, back when I was a small boy in Taiwan.

Back then they were about 100NTD, or roughly $2 or $3 USD at the old convertion rate, so it was really expensive. I was buying them with my allowance money behind my Mom's back, just like today I'm buying Kyosho cars without my wife knowing how much they cost. I'm sure many of you know the same feeling/story. : )

Back then these were toys and not collectibles so they did get bang up with chipped paint and stuff, but I did my best keeping them clean by waxing and shining the cars when I was playing with them. Beause the box was all in Japanese I had no idea what kind of cars they are. I picked them simply because they looked good. Now looking at them again I'd say I made some pretty good choices... especially the 300SL and the Rolls Royce.

Enjoy!

Josh

Hi Josh.
Your Tomicas were very well kept.
All them were made in Japan & hard to come by these days in mint condition.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Thank you all for the nice comments. I loved that MB 300SL. I remember when I was playing with these cars a long time ago I'd pretend that one to be the flying car!

Hi Josh!

Some nice Tomica oldies you have there!

You know, it took me some time to appreciate Tomica, especially the earlier ones. Growing up in the US, as a child of the 60's and 70's, I was mostly exposed to Hot Wheels and some Matchbox. I played with my cars till the wheels fell of and I don't have any of them now. When I first got back into minicar collecting about 10 years ago, a friend would offer me some of his old, beat-up Tomica, and I kindly refused them. At the time I thought those Tomica were poor representations of the real thing, and I didn't like the open doors (which at the time I thought detracted from the overall appearance) and bright plastic interiors. My opinion of Tomica slowly changed when I realized no one else made the cars I wanted - i.e. Toyota. Now, for the past 5 years, Tomica old and new are one favorite small scale cars to collect. I buy the new ones as they come out, and I hunt down oldies as time and money permit. I must have several hundred and they're all Toyota, with a few others tossed in to keep things fresh! ;)

I'm glad you shared your collection and memories with us!

Hi Toyotageek, thank you for your kind words and reply. You are right about Tomica making unique cars and I really wish they have a bigger market here in the USA.

Maxciim, I did visit your page. You have an excellent collection there. Very impressive!
