View Full Version : Hot Wheels Collectors/Diecast collectors may hate me soon
Andrij 04-27-2009, 02:39 AM I took a few minutes out to take some quick snaps of the future diecast projects.
Yep, some are hot wheels cars, almost all are diecast.

Andrij 04-27-2009, 10:45 AM But but but they customize their way, i customize mine.
While i was at it, i found my son's first customized car, as well as my first car from this third rebirthing of the hobby to me.
This was when the fairlane customs contest was running.
The one on the left was painted by my son. The one on the right is mine. I lost the glass and rear bumper, so may have to salvage those from another, to finish it.

This one to try and show the metalflake(fingernail polish) i used on mine.

So starts my journey of slotcar modifying craziness :)

Andrij 04-28-2009, 09:58 AM Well, 3 diecast shells met Mr Dremel.
Some may need a little bit of work, one shell needs no work, but the chassis under it does.
Post the pictures of them soon :)
slotcarman12078 04-28-2009, 12:58 PM Looking good Andirj!!! And don't worry about pissing off the diecasters!! By doing this to yours makes theirs more valuable!!
Andrij 04-28-2009, 10:21 PM And more fun :)
Hilltop Raceway 04-29-2009, 09:10 AM I cut em up all the time Andrij, it's the best way to get glass, a chrome engine, some cool sidepipes, even chrome wheels!!! Most diecasts sell for a 1.00, so you can't beat the price for parts. I have a blast going to diecast shows looking for parts. The dealer says "Now this is a rare car" and I say "I just need the engine or chrome grill from it" ...RM
Andrij 05-02-2009, 02:19 AM Well, i got a brand new chassis - virgin even, and then gave it some new front end holes for the rims:
http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/7173/p1010195.th.jpg (http://img114.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1010195.jpg)
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/2007/p1010201.th.jpg (http://img387.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1010201.jpg)
This is the chassis after i mounted the front wheels.
Yep, you guessed right. Those front rims are AFX G-Plus, in yellow, to match the color of the Ferrari.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1163/p1010219u.th.jpg (http://img13.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1010219u.jpg)
This is the reason why i had to make a third pair of front axle holes, as the wheelbase is in-between long and normal on a super g-plus chassis.

This is what it looks like sitting on the chassis.

I am not 100% happy with the look of the car right now.
2 things i am in the process of working out.
First is to work out the ride height properly, and the second is the body itself.
Should i strip the paint, file the body where it isnt the best, then repaint it and detail it, or just detail the body as it is.
Something i will think about over the next few days.
Andrij 05-02-2009, 02:25 AM One of these days i will learn how to work this digital camera out, so i get some clearer shots.
Sorry for the out of focus shots. I havent been drinking, honest.
Andrij 05-02-2009, 02:27 AM Take a peak at what is in the pipeline.

slotcarman12078 05-02-2009, 11:17 AM I think it looks ok as it is, but you can see it better the I can. I guess it all depends on how perfect you want it to be. That's a cool batch of projects you got lined up..
Andrij 05-02-2009, 10:46 PM Well, as we speak, the Ferrari is taking a swim. So is the Anglia as well.
I didnt like the details on the Ferrari, thepaint was too think in some areas, and there was the odd cast mark, as well as the odd detail that didnt come out, so it took a dip.
I didnt like the color of the anglia, poor girl looked rather dull in a grey primerish sort of way, so she is swmming with da fishes....lol, nope, just in some pino-clean.
They should both be ready by about next weekend for some color.
May even take to the rims on both cars as well, wait and see.
Not too sure what chassis to put under the Anglia. Should i use a magnatraction, old school g-plus, or a tomy chassis.
What do you guys think?
Andrij
resinmonger 05-02-2009, 11:33 PM Old school chassis for an old school car - go G+!
