View Full Version : HT via Blackberry GoodwrenchIntim 04-26-2009, 11:24 PM Now you all cant get away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v65/GoodwrenchIntimidator3/100_1196.jpg SplitPoster 04-27-2009, 12:34 AM That is too cool - my cell phone/PDA is so last year LOL...... I can pull it up on windows mobile, views are a little different, but the iPhone has raised the bar for everybody else. Issue - you think texting while driving is insane, what about posting? Or looking at the customs thread:freak: GoodwrenchIntim 04-27-2009, 07:20 AM Issue - you think texting while driving is insane, what about posting? Or looking at the customs thread:freak: LOL yeah that will be the kicker. I like the Blackberry over the iphone for a couple reasons. This one is a dual band(cdma, gsm) quad band(850.900,1800,1900) So only one phone needed when traveling abroad(before I had to buy another phone just for that). Also verizon offers a data package that is one cost, I don't pay more for tether support to my laptop like with att. Only thing this does not have I wanted was wifi, but they are going to release one with wifi in the next year or so. This sure beats my EnV Ive had for 3 years AfxToo 04-27-2009, 07:30 AM I routinely access HT from my iPod Touch when I have a wireless connection, which is pretty much anywhere I go. In fact, it I had full time wifi I wouldn't even carry a phone but use Skype for the occasional phone call. As remarkably usable for its size that the iPhone/iPod Touch Safari browser is on those devices, it's still more of a novelty than a true mobile computing tool. As nice as it is to have email and a browser in your pocket, the newest generation of Netbook computers with 90+ percent full sized keyboards, 160 GB and larger hard drives, 2 GB RAM, and 8+ hour battery life are much easier to live with for real mobile computing. Give me universal wireless and bring back pay phones. I travel to Europe and a few of my colleagues have iPhones that work quite well over there, data and all. If given the choice, and if someone else was footing the bill, I'd choose an iPhone in a heartbeat over any of the trying to catch-up copycats. But for personal use, I'd never pay the exorbitant monthly rates that AT&T charges for an iPhone with a full data plan. Netbooks are nice but lack features that I would use while traveling 24+ hours an 3+ airports later to South Africa. 1 no cd rom, 2 small screen, 3 computing power. I can only watch so many "airline movies" before Id want to dig through my collection to find something interesting(being on cd or flash).I like watching movies on a nice size screen instead of straining to see whats going on. I can only watch so may movies before I would want to play a game to keep my hand occupied, Sure you can play solitary on a netbook but I want action games that the netbook would never be able to handle. Also I like FULL keyboards. Battery life I would love to be 8 hours on my laptop, But most airport an airplanes(first 30 rows) having 120 AC plugins I can plug into an recharge or run my laptop almost non stop As for the iphone it is a nice phone but lacks functionality, first no bluetooth stereo support,no laptop tethering, also no swappable memory card option. You also cant change batteries on the iphone so you must carry a changer. Here is a good site with 8 reasons to choose a Blackberry over an iphone http://www.cio.com/article/463019/RIM_BlackBerry_Storm_vs._iPhone_G_Reasons_to_Pick_ the_Storm SplitPoster 04-27-2009, 11:39 AM Nice thread - you never know what you can learn off HT. I didn't know that iphones had no tethering - I wouldn't like that, as I enter appt's on my PDA, but work on my calendar with full KB on the laptop, sync it using Outlook. Nice safety net too. Phone breaks, I don't loose my contacts, my schedule... (my precious, LOL). No international travel for me - but I am one of those those geeks who carries 2 computers. 1 is a disfunctional company lenovo thinkpad that is used only when required, and with 90 min battery life at absolute max, external disc drive and car charger in case the size of a small brick it is a pain in the rear. The plus size is that it has a small screen and a cramped KB, easy to mistype LOL. Nice education though, I'd never buy one. 2 is a personal laptop that goes with me everywhere. When I fly I joke with TSA about my techno nerd status, but I guess from their reaction that it isn't that uncommon. HT chat is a nice thing to look forward to when out on Weds., and last year especially when that was most of them! martybauer31 04-27-2009, 11:42 AM http://www.cio.com/article/463015/Apple_iPhone_G_vs._BlackBerry_Storm_Reasons_to_Pic k_the_iPhone ;) coach61 04-27-2009, 12:26 PM http://nerdarama.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/ogre.jpg Sorry, everyone was thinking it... resinmonger 04-27-2009, 12:58 PM Right on, Coach! GoodwrenchIntim 04-27-2009, 01:06 PM http://www.cio.com/article/463015/Apple_iPhone_G_vs._BlackBerry_Storm_Reasons_to_Pic k_the_iPhone ;) I saw that too, but the only thing that I would benefit from the iphone would be wifi an possible the safari browser, other than that the Blackberry has all the features that I want/need slotcarman12078 04-27-2009, 07:56 PM Cup?? String? Me still use smoke signal!! bobhch 04-27-2009, 11:12 PM Cup?? String? Me still use smoke signal!! That is Far Out to be able to get HT on your phone (very, very Kewl!!) . I just picked up a pay as you go to take on our Vegas Vacation and have 40 min left. I am not much of a teckno guy myself but, that does look fun! Bob...I can read smoke signals...zilla NTxSlotCars 04-28-2009, 12:44 AM Why travel? Why not just stay home and surf HobbyTalk all day? resinmonger 04-28-2009, 04:59 AM Avoid the swine flu. Stay at home and run slot cars! AfxToo 04-28-2009, 06:51 AM It's all about the right combination of features, functions, size, and price. Some of the current Netbooks fit in a nice sweet spot that most full size notebooks cannot fill, unless you can afford a MacBook Air that offers the best of both worlds. I would never buy a Netbook as a desktop replacement for hard core development, not based on today's technology at least. As far as traveling, I cannot even open my 17" notebook computer on an airplane unless I'm traveling business class, which is very rare these days. My Netbook on a plane, no problem, an absolute joy to travel with. Screen readability is excellent, actually better than the 17" Dell slabasaurus. Yeah, you give up some screen real estate and raw performance but you also give up 6 extra pounds and having to maneuver the slabasaur around airport security, small desks, struggle to balance it on your lap, and general feeling of sitting behind a temporary room partition. When I'm in the office or at home I like the 24" flat panel or dual screens, the dual socket dual core tower of power, but on the road, running office apps, email, browsing, and media, a textbook sized 2-2.5 lb Notebook with a 10" screen is a thing of beauty. It's all about having the right tool for the right job. iPhone ... 1 billion App Store downloads and counting. A brand new multi billion dollar business model created from nothing. This is what keeps Ballmer popping antacids and Google searching for answers. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
