View Full Version : Tomica Limited Vintage
BuildTO 04-26-2009, 05:19 PM These are my latest acquisitions from the Tomica Limited Vintage line. I cannot get over how beautiful these cars look (and feel). Rubber tires and working suspension, flawless paint and realistic colours, 2-tone upholstery, and plastic-lens headlights (and taillights on many). All are indicated as 1:64.

Kotetsu 04-26-2009, 07:39 PM What a wonderful collection! I'm currently looking into getting some of the Tomica Limited Vintage cars as well. I really like their trucks because they are so unique in the die-cast world. The only problem is that they are expensive and hard to come by. The only one I have right now is the Mitsubishi three wheeler just like yours but in the yellow tone. When I first got it in my hands I was pleasantly surprised at how hefty and sturdy it's made and keeping true to all the details. Thank you for the great pictures. They sure do give me a direction on what to buy next.

Lummox 04-26-2009, 07:51 PM Working suspension?
Vehicles are all the same scale and correctly proportoned?
Looks too good to be true! Thanks for the pix!!!
Atencio 04-26-2009, 07:53 PM Incredible pieces. I want them all.
Uncle Tomica 04-26-2009, 09:05 PM These really are superb. My friend in Tokyo has been great in sending me these models since they began. He just sent me a soft cover book loaded with pictures. It's all in Japanese but the photos are beautiful. I haven't got the larger trucks or buses but i will probably get these too. A really nice series.
69Stang 04-26-2009, 11:52 PM I am speachless....and that's hard to do! Amazing collection, thank you for the time to post all the photos. those are truly wonderful!
jefferson 04-27-2009, 11:32 AM NIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEE!! I think I need at least half of those now.
Thanks a lot, now I'll never be whole.:p
The last time I even saw Tomica's (pocket cars) on the peg was at TRU about 1983 or 1984. so sad that they aren't easier to come by.
dragonhead00 04-27-2009, 01:48 PM Those are beautifully done! A nice collection.
hookie 04-27-2009, 04:08 PM Awesome picture, thanks for sharing.
Tomica limited vintage are outstanding die cast miniatures, the quality and realism is excellent, I also have a few of this item, but price is a bit high in my opinion.
The models released are very typical in Japan streets but are unknow for the most of the world, I think this is the reason this miniatures are not so popular in over the world like others (for instance kyosho minicars series).
Lummox 04-27-2009, 08:27 PM What's the price on these in US dollars?
BuildTO 04-27-2009, 09:43 PM I just checked with a currency converter and I think they're about $13 US each. I'm not sure if there was tax.
You can get most or all of these online, but the prices vary from a little less than that to twice as much. And then there's shipping.

Tomica Limited Vintage (TLV) has helped change my collecting habits. I'm cutting back on 1:43 scale cars in favor of smaller scales, especially the 1:64 scale TLV's! While TLV may not be right for the majority of collectors out there, they are perfect for me in that they consist of Japanese marques, especially nostalgic Japanese vehicles. I have the complete range of TLV Toyotas and a few others too. I was lucky when an online shop in the US was going out-of-business and was selling their inventory at 40 - 60% off (which gave me the chance to buy some non-Toyota vehicles). Please stay tuned.
We hope to be handling the line on a regular basis moving forward as well.

Toyotageek 09-10-2009, 05:30 PM Where does one acquire such a book?

It was published March of this year (I think), so it is pretty current. It contains ALL TLV and TLV-Neo up to the publication. I have it at home and will update with more info later tonight.
Any good book store should be able to order it using the ISBN.
If that fails, try to find a Japanese book store in your area. There are a number of Kinokuniya book stores in the states. They can definitely order one for you.

hookie 10-03-2010, 10:19 AM Tomica limited vintage is one of best company in die cast industry today.
Quality items, excellent details.
Nowadays I donīt collect these beauties only for the reason that they only release japan cars (more than 90% of releases are japan cars).
Also the price is a bit high (double or more than similar items)
Unfortunately my budget is only for european and american cars (more common) and Kyosho, minichamps, high speed are my main companies.
I wish TLV will release more european cars in the future.
swflyboy 10-04-2010, 11:52 PM Tomica Limited Vintage are really nice, maybe a tad too expensive but the details are worth it.
They also look good in any Japanese diorama and some of them fit US/European dioramas too (mostly the Vintage Neos with the 80s/90s cars, when Legacies, Corollas, Galants, Sunnies (Sentras in the US,) and Bluebirds (Stanzas)) became kinda common. Course if you are picky with details, the dashboard shouldn't be too hard to copy into a left-hand drive version.
