I was thinking about types of display cases pepole could put their Moebius models in. Especially the vehicles. I came across this seller on ebay who does some great cases (mostly unfortunaely) for diecast cars. http://cgi.ebay.com/LIGHTED-1-18-MODEL-CAR-BATMAN-BATMOBILE-DISPLAY-CASE_W0QQitemZ310125168120QQihZ021QQcategoryZ223QQ tcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

This is one they do for the 1/18" batmobile. They also have one for the Dukes of Hazzard 1/18". Obviously these are to small for most of the moebius vehicle. ALTHOUGH come to think of it the Chariot may fit it one of those or one of the other diecast size cases for it. Im not sure if this company will make requested sized cases.(It may be worth asking)
I thought it was cool with the panoramic glass and decals on back. For a lighted case with sliding front its not a bad price. But again to small for most moebius vehicle. Now that there is some new excitment(new J2)in the world of scifi modeling Im starting to get the fever again and may start to finally build some of the models collecting dust in my closet, instead of lurking and posting here.

But I will tell you if I do eventually get around to building again, I want to have a case like those but larger for my Moebius Seaview and Newly announce J2. Plus maybe a multilayer cased for the smaller vehicles like the Chariot and Space Pod.

Anyways just a thought for people who have been trying to come up with display options.

Close Thread  ... delete  ... ask Moderator for help ... teach fingers to type

You can also try Tap Plastics for cases. If they don't have something ready-made, they can make it ...

I ordered a beautiful case for the Seaview diorama I am building. It is 46x10x10. The edges are heat rounded not butt ended and it looks great with a dust proof sculped wood base. It wasnt cheap but its all custom and its cool.

Thinking of making a 2x4' case with the Seaview surfaced on a sheet of acrylic water about 9" down inside and the rest an underwater dio showing off the bell, fs, and my old horizon plieosaur. Best I can do on a 4x8' sheet of 1/8 plexi locally is $100. Sigh. Still, making your own has to a fraction of buying.

They made the custom stand for my Seaview I designed, I can't say enough good things about them, I've used them for cases for years.

Just got four 2 x 4' pieces of 1/8" plexi for $84 Can, (about $70 US) at one of our local plastics shops. I'll make a frame for them out of 1" square hardwood as well as a hardwood edged base. I'll need the frame for mine to support a rippled light diffuser that will support a surfaced Seaview. If you don't want the frame Fine Scale Modeler a few years ago did a couple articles on cutting and edging acrylic sheets like Plexi and how to cement the edges to make your own display cases. If you can finish the Seaview, you've definitely got the skills to make your own display case. Check the FSM site and on-line. The above linked display case site's calculator told me $360 + I can't begin to imagine what shipping would cost for the same size case.
Obviously I can't leave the attached attached for long.

I created a thread a few weeks back where I mentioned that Michael's (hobby & crafts retail chain like Hobby Lobby) was having a sale on some of their display cases and that there was one for a football that is perfect for the Chariot - and would probably suit the Space Pod a well (one case for each) --- I forget actual cost, but I believe it was well under $50.

Before you spend big $$ on custom cases, you might want to check your local craft store first.

I bought the long plexi case they sell at Michaels, and was able to fit BOTH the chariot and the space pod into it. I made a sand covered base display for it, and even ran my lights under the case. It all sits magnetically atop a wood base I had made by a local guy who does woodworking. I made it magnetically attach for ease in replacing batteries in the powerpack, instead of having to unscrew the case from the base everytime.

Cost-

The switch to turn on my rotating core lights I scratch-built, ran around 7 bucks at Radio Shack, and it's mounted on the wood base, outside the case.

The case was around 20 bucks. ( You can get them cheaper, if you catch a 50% off sale at Michaels. )

Wood base was 6 bucks. The guy even cut out a small recessed area for my battery pack. Stain for the pine board was around $2.50.

Sand, and local rocks for the base cost practically nothing. The only additional things added were a few old aquarium plastic plants, to simulate those freaky plants they always found on Lost in Space.

So, all in all, a cheap diorama, made easily for my 2 kits, to keep them dust free, and looking good in a planet-like setting. If ya look around, and catch sales at hobby and craft places, you really can score some nice things to protect your modeling treasures.

Best of luck building!

Sincerely,
Scorp.
