Hey Guys!

I've been seeing SOOO many fantastic examples of lit kits on these boards, but, have never had the stones to do one myself. I know how to solder, but still have held back from attempting it.

Can you guys give me a suggestion of what would be a good lighting kit (aftermarket) to get my feet wet (though I guess that's not a good way to put it if I'm gonna be working with electricity, huh!!??). Something that has instructions for dummies (Step by Step) and comes with EVERYTHING needed? It seems I've bought just about every kit that comes out, and I sure would like to start doing them at a higher level of workmanship.

Thanking you, in advance, for your kind help!

If you want to try some generic stuff and get a feeling for it, All Electronics (http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/305/Kits/1.html) has some cheepo flashy kits. I've used their 10 LED chaser kit a few times. For $7 it'll introduce you to ICs, LEDs, Resistors. And it's quite useful (they don't have to flash just in a row!)

Just an Illusion has some good stuff as well. I am ordering one of their kits tonight.

And fear not if you get stuck; either Randy or Gil will guide you step-by-step if necessessary.
Which reminds me, I'll very likely be calling Randy very soon regarding the MWM lighting kit I received yesterday (but I'll be giving it the ol'college try first)!

I've bought both from Gil and from Randy and both are excellent

the only thing I'll say is that Gil's stuff comes pre-wired for the most part, while Randy's stuff needs a little more assembly.

Go for it!.. If I can do it anybody can...lol

It's a hoot! on the lil sub build I've been teaching myself(with a little help from my friends) to solder tiny stuff without destroying it.
Randy has been custom making the boards for me, prewired and assembled.
He's great and a great help too.

If you have a little scratchbuilder in you, that's all you really need to get rolling!

Also, the guy who designs the lighting effects for VFX regularly checks out this forum.

He is also quick on the email replys too. I'd love to use more of randies stuff but sometimes I have to way out costs to desire.

Also if you google right there are people out there that do up generic pc boards n things. Thats how I found the mob down here in oz which is where I get my little 2 led flashers and the sequencer kit for my pod fusion core.

Cheers,

Alec.
