View Full Version : OT: My Day at Chiller Theatre
Kanaan 04-20-2009, 07:32 PM Chiller Theatre is a horror, SF, and fantasy convention that occurs twice a year in Parsippany, NJ. It is without a doubt the largest con of its kind in the NY, NJ, PA area. It occurs every April (though sometimes moves to May or June) and every October around Halloween. This show brings in over 75 to 100 celebrities and there's always at least 8 or 10 that I go to meet.
I attend faithfully twice a year and this past show, April 17-19, I was honored to meet the legendary Tony Curtis, Edward James Olmos, Corbin Bernsen and his lovely wife Amanda Pays, and Luciana Carro from Battlestar.
Now, I was at the tail end of the flu when I went to this show. I look pasty faced, sweaty and have that red "bowtie" around my nose, the telltale sign of a respiratory infection. I was congested like you would not believe. And then my hat got bumped in the crowd and no one told me before we took the pictures that it was tilted! I'm not photogenic at it stands and I look like even more of a dork in these shots but really...who cares. This was the best Chiller in the 9 years, 18 total Chillers, that I've attended.
Chiller's quality of guests only gets better and better with every show. Can't wait to see who's coming in October!
Thanks for looking!
Carson Dyle 04-20-2009, 08:20 PM Thanks for sharing Kanaan; looks like a good time.
Thing is, I think this particular thread might be better suited to the Movie Forum.
And so, without further ado...
Kanaan 04-20-2009, 08:26 PM That man is Carson Dyle!!!! I was just chatting with some fans at Chiller about Charade, excellent movie.
Thanks for moving my post. I never knew where to post stuff like this. Now I do!
P.S. I met George Kennedy last October and had him sign a picture from Charade, a photo from the fight scene between him and Cary Grant on the roof.

Best movie Hitchcock never made. :)
Kanaan 04-20-2009, 08:49 PM Uh, sorry, Charade was a Stanley Donen film....
Carson Dyle 04-20-2009, 08:50 PM Yeah, I think you need to re-read my post.
Kanaan 04-20-2009, 10:29 PM Yeah, that's what I get for too much flu medication. ;-)
John P 04-21-2009, 07:43 AM Dang, I didn't know it was this weekend! :(
PhilipMarlowe 04-21-2009, 03:49 PM Yikes! Amanda sure has aged a lot better than Corbin!
I had a huge crush on her after first noticing her in the original BBC Max Headroom movie. Oddly, I don't remember ever seeing her in anything else but the grade-B Abyss rip-off Leviathan ever since.
Great pictures, thanks for sharing!
John P 04-21-2009, 04:02 PM Amanda was also in The Flash TV series, late of the 90s.

Right, she did Max Headroom, The Flash, a one shot on the X-Files and a one shot on Psyche with her hubby Corbin Bernsen. That was all I ever saw her in but Amanda was SO NICE at the show. She chatted with me awhile as I waited my turn in line to meet Corbin.
What I forgot to mention was that John Wesley Shipp, who played the Flash, was on the other side of her. I met him before so I didn't go to his table at this show.
To be honest, Corbin actually looked great. The photo doesn't do him justice. If you watch Psyche, and if you don't you should, Corbin lost all that pretty boy hair, sure, but I wish I looked that good and I'm probably about 10 years younger than he!!
Funny story: At the convention, Tony Curtis sent someone to Corbin's table to tell him that he wanted to meet Corbin! Corbin was totally floored.
Roland 04-21-2009, 07:57 PM I went to Chiller in April once. If I ever went again, it would be in October, not in April, for the model contest. The Chiller location is too far for me. I have to be picky.
In general, I am not too keen on autograph shows. But, I did enjoy meeting some of the actors and talking with them. The best thing about Chiller, when I went, was to see Bobby Pickett perform the Monster Mash for the last time before he unexpectedly passed away. He really worked up a sweat that night.
I also liked seeing the historic Edison mansion which was near by. Unfortunately, the Edison laboratory was closed for renovations. I saw a replica of the "Black Maria" from the outside.
John P 04-22-2009, 07:49 AM I haven't been to Chiller since they moved from Secaucus - that location was about 5 minutes from my office, so I could zip over right after work on friday night. The new location is in the middle of some of the busiest traffic area on north Jersey, and a bit of a haul for me.
Celebs: I'm not usually interested in meeting them, but I just had to say hello to Patricia Tallman when she was at Chiller a few years ago. She's Lyta on Bab 5, and was a stuntwoman on just about ever incarnation of Trek since TNG. And, well, I'm in love. And she was an absolute doll when I met her. I wore her official fan club T-shirt, which got a happy squeel out of her when she saw it. She called Bill mumy over to see the t-shirt, so I met him too. Billy was singularly unimpressed with the shirt, though, and just wantyed to know what kind of pizza Pat wanted for dinner.
