View Full Version : New Dirt Oval in Boone Iowa
crisis641 04-20-2009, 07:31 PM Hey guys, We're thinking of putting in a new dirt oval track in Boone Iowa to race on during the summer. It'll be an indoor track with a really nice drivers stand and plenty of pit space. We are still in the planning stages right now but will probably run Sunday afternoon's. Also planning on running a trophy race in september during the IMCA Modified Supernationals (also in boone about 2 miles from where this track would be) so it'll be great for all the race fans to come race some RC and watch some real races.
Like i said this is still in the planning stages so let us know what you guys think.
Thanks
Mike Clement
pic of the facility, We're tearing the offroad track out and putting an oval in. Should be around 130-140 foot runline.

Craig14 04-22-2009, 02:52 PM Remember Mike - if you build it, they will come...
I'll make the trip to Boone, make a weekend out of it.
Stock car races saturday night and rc racing sunday afternoon - don't get much better than that!

crisis641 04-22-2009, 02:59 PM Right on. I'm meeting with the guys who run the track tonight and will have a better guess on when it's going to happen. Probably very soon. I've been trying to get parts together to get my car built so i can actually have something to race on it :-)
mga55 04-22-2009, 03:08 PM What size of cars and what classes?
crisis641 04-22-2009, 03:15 PM We will be running 1/10th scale and possibly 1/18th scale cars. Classes right now I really don't know but of the people who've been talking about coming to race it looks like there's a good mix of sprinters, late models, EDM's and possibly some trucks.
What classes are you looking to run?
dizzy 04-22-2009, 11:18 PM Don't forget the mini late models?
crisis641 04-22-2009, 11:21 PM We will definetly run mini late models and mini sprinters
crisis641 04-23-2009, 09:48 AM Here is some more info:
The track will be getting built next week and be open for the first practice/shakedown/race day.....
Sunday May 10th
Plan on racing nearly every sunday after that...We'll post on here when there's something going on that we won't be racing.
The track is located in the back of C & C Stereo and Glass, 915 6th Street, Boone, IA.
Here is a google street view of the building.

If you park to the right of the building in that picture and enter the track along the side back near that back garage door. The track is right in there.
Like I said before, there is plenty of pit space but you will need your own extension cords, tables and chairs.
The track does have a counting system. It is a KoPropo system so you won't be able to use your AMB Personal transponders. You need to be able to mount a house type transponder near your receiver. The KOPropo transponders need to plug into your receiver to power them.
Hope to see you all at the track soon.
Now I gotta get back to work.

Stagger2 05-01-2009, 10:12 AM After looking at what I have I want to see if anyone would be interested in running 1/10th 4wd late model. i have a XXX-S just stting around from the winter that could run a late model body. I know that there are many classes to choose from when running Dirt Oval, so I dont want to make it too diverse. My thought is to come up with a fun class, much like the Vintage Trans Am racing. Just my 2 cents.

crisis641 05-08-2009, 09:52 AM Was at the track last night and it's moving right along... Here are some pics of it so far. Sorry for the quality, they are cell phone pics. From what we talked about last night we are getting a big tiller in there tomorrow to tear it all up hopefully. The clay is still pretty hard to manage and is still wet in a few places. It may take a couple of days to get it tilled well. There is a pretty good chance it'll be able to be ran on this weekend but I think we decided to push back the official first race day to:
MAY 31st
The track will be open on the 24th for test and tune day.
Cam is supposed to be sending me more pics as they work on it today and tomorrow. The center section that you see in these pics is just a base for building the inner barrier so don't be alarmed that there are square corners.

crisis641 05-27-2009, 01:00 AM Turned some more laps on the track tonight and it's not too bad.
We are going to have our first race day this Sunday, May 31st as planned. Doors open at 10AM and races will start at 1. See the first post for the address and directions
I had a very badly setup outlaw late model with double pink foams on all 4 corners with no additives and had lots of grip already. With a little running on this track it's going to be ballistic. There are still a few little rough spots but we want to get some running on it while we aquire the equipment to redo the surface and make it perfect.
Cam is putting the outside pipe on the track tomorrow and is going to send me some more pictures then, I'll post them as soon as I get them
crisis641 05-29-2009, 08:12 PM Well everyone, Only a couple days left till the first race day.
I was over at the track this afternoon helping clean up and wrap up a few loose ends. I took a few pics too.
I made a few setup changes on my Outlaw Latemodel and since we got the counting system working we timed a few laps. I was able to run some laps down in the 3.8 second range so the speed is already there in the track.
Just to recap:
Track will be open at 10 AM on Sunday, May 31st, Races will start at probably 12:30 or 1.
The track is located in the back of C & C Stereo and Glass, 915 6th Street, Boone, IA.

Jacobey 06-02-2009, 10:47 PM Would RC18T latemodels be ran with the rest of the mini latemodels?
What do you have for rules for the trucks?
What kind of 10th scale latemodels are you running? Are they buggies/trucks converted over or are they Custom Works?
crisis641 06-03-2009, 04:53 PM We haven't had any mini's or trucks show up yet but We'd like to stick to the same rules that are being run at Tea's hobbies and Brinks. For trucks that would mean that they are pretty close to stock trucks (T4, XXX5, ect) with stock motors or 17.5 BL motors
My late model is a Hyperdrive havoc so it's more purpose built for oval but we would run whatever showed up. The Limited late model class is built around running buggies and I think that's what you are asking about.
Here is a link to the rules from Brinks speedway up north and we're going to follow these pretty close.
http://www.brinksspeedway.com/Rules/index.html
We'll be racing this sunday again. Doors open at 10. Hope to see everyone there
crisis641 06-15-2009, 10:10 AM Calling all dirt racers in the area. June 28th we are going to try and get everyone from around to come to boone and give the track a real workout. We will be running Outlaw Sprints, B-Mod/A-Mod (depends on what shows up) and Late Models. We will also run Losi Sliders.
I want to show the guy who owns the track that there is intrest in the area so we need to all show up.
Bonus for those of you who want to make a little weekend out of it...The Outlaw's are at Knoxville on the 27th.
Hope to see you there.

dmayhew25 06-30-2009, 12:44 AM How is the race during the IMCA Nat's looking? Any word on classes or what days its going to be? I will be in Newton IA the weekend before the IMCA race in Boone. Going to be a good week of racing but if I can throw my RC stuff in and race that sometime as well that would just make it that much better. Thanks for any info.
crisis641 06-30-2009, 09:52 PM We are still planning on doing the race during the supernationals. We aren't totally sure on the dates yet. I'm thinking practice on friday and races on saturday and maybe sunday. We want to be sure that the race fans will be able to get out to the big track so we don't want to run too late into the afternoon.
But yeah it's a go.
It'll be september 11th, 12th and maybe 13th.
Classes will be A-Modified and B-modified (17.5 or stock motors) , Late Model and Sprint cars. Probably a truck class as well.
I'll post when more info is available.
Where are you from?
dmayhew25 06-30-2009, 11:02 PM I am from California, going to be running the Nascar West race at Iowa speedway on the 4th and then going to stay until the IMCA Supernats and race that as well the following week. Might just bring my RC stuff as well and have a little fun with that as well. Please post any updates. Thanks in advance.
crisis641 07-01-2009, 01:18 AM Wow awesome. What class would you want to be running?
dmayhew25 07-01-2009, 11:08 AM Out here we run 17.5 Latemodel. That is the class that I would run if I can make it. Trying to work out all the details so that I can make it. Thanks again.
Did you get third in the Spring race?
I'm guessing the #17 Car.
dmayhew25 07-03-2009, 11:47 AM Yep, that was me. Looking forward to going back! Couldn't be better with all the racing that goes on back there, West series, RC racing and then the IMCA at Boone :thumbsup: If you make the next race out there stop by and say hi.
The screen name kinda gave it away. LOL
I'm going to try and make the race in Newton and maybe the race in Boone, both rc and IMCA.
I've lived in Iowa all my life and have not been to Boone for the super nationals, it could be time.
Looking forward to meeting you.
crisis641 07-06-2009, 11:44 PM finally got a method to get the track torn up and are well on the way to making it much smoother and have progressive banking. Plan on having it ready to race this Sunday.
Who's coming?
Chris S 08-03-2009, 02:44 PM Don't forget!!! We are racing this Sunday, Sunday the 23rd, and then it is the RC Supernationals on Sept 11-13. If you plan on being at the IMCA Supernationals, bring your dirt oval stuff. We will be working around the IMCA schedule so you won't miss any action. Should be a great time.
Chris S 09-28-2009, 05:31 PM Back to the top. I know there are dirt guys around here. Schedule will be coming soon. Keep watching.
crisis641 10-02-2009, 12:24 PM Well everyone, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the oval track is shut down. We just weren't seeing the car count we needed to make it work.
