Funny you should ask. Just watched that episode on the American Life Channel and my reaction to that music was WTF!? - why on earth would they jettison the classic theme for that? Glad to know it was only temporary - although it's not nearly as horrid as the Frankie Avalon theme from the original movie :drunk:. Lloyd Collins 04-19-2009, 09:56 PM For season two, Allen commisioned Jerry Goldsmith to do a new theme, but it was used only once. It was never explained why it was not used again, but the prevailing theory has always been that the essentially downbeat nature of Goldsmith's music, versus the heroic approach of Sawtell's theme, led to the reinstatement of the original. This is stated in the booklet that came in the GNP/Crescendo's CD of VTTBOTS TV soundtrack. Ever notice how Basehart looks pissed in the intro footage? Must have been hungover. steve123 04-20-2009, 11:34 AM Have you watched Levithan yet?....oooh, boy Steve Dar 04-21-2009, 09:55 AM I noticed that as well. I thought it was a mistake on the dvds. Another thing to note is that one time opening music was used at the end credits on the next ep. Steve But ya' gotta' admit, that whale did have one very well-lit gullet.:p Gemini1999 04-21-2009, 02:33 PM "Come with meeee...on our Voyage...to the Bottom...of the sea..." :p Hey "Frankie"....there's Annette! Go get her! Lloyd Collins 04-22-2009, 03:15 AM Cuz it was a weird horrid episode...Watching that was like death.lol Did you see all the boo boos? Count the windows.... Steve If you notice, just like TOS, the 8 window pops up all the time in seasons 2 and 3. When you have stock footage, why waste it. Antimatter 04-23-2009, 12:59 PM I guess time was running out on the refit and not enough footage of the 4 window was shot before they had to film and get it on TV for season 2. beatlepaul 04-23-2009, 01:32 PM For season two, Allen commisioned Jerry Goldsmith to do a new theme, but it was used only once. David. jbond 04-25-2009, 01:23 PM Of course I prefer Sawtell's TV theme but I love Goldsmith's background score and that is tracked in a LOT of later episodes--in fact the music for the end of the episode almost became the signature ending music for the series. Goldsmith's motifs were VERY useful for the actual underscore--which, interestingly, Sawtell's wasn't--it was rarely used that way and was not very effective when it was. That's something it has in common with Alexander Courage's Star Trek theme--the main melody of that was almost never used in the actual Star Trek episodes. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
