So I was in my garage and pulled out a box of loose 1/64 cars that have been in there for a while waiting to be displayed. To my dismay, I found some to be damaged! Broken spoilers/wings, broken lights, etc.

So while I have them out to repair, I've decided not to throw them loose in boxes any more and keep them in some type of clear container.

Anybody have any suggestions for a storage container? Keep in mind that these are the Muscle Machine Import Tuners and a couple of Jadas, so they're a bit bigger than your standard 1/64 scale. I heard of someone using a fishing tackle box. Just looking for something clear and with compartments. And the cheaper, the better, really don't want to splurge.

Suggestions?

I put labels on the containers in case I lose my database again.

I do mine econo style. I use snack-sized ziplocs. I've been using them for a year and have not suffered any damage since starting with the ziplocs. When they're in small tubs together the excess plastic cushions each car from the other. It's possible to pack too much into one case and damage the bags, but if you leave enough room, the cars are safe. The trade off is that it isn't a pretty sight to see - sort of chaotic actually. What can you expect for 2.79 for 100 bags? This doesn't work so well, however, for vehicles with delicate details like those found on Shelby Collectibles and Some Jadas. I like the protectos for loose cars, but they can get expensive and I have thousands of loose cars. Good luck.

Yeah I think they are around $26.00 for 96 containers. I buy them a little at a time. By the time I label the cars a couple of weeks have passed and I order another batch. I think I have bought about 900 small containers and 200 large ones so far. I wish I could find a wholesaler for these. The containers are exactly the same as ones you get at hardware stores with screws and stuff in them.

Go to any of the big Outdoor Stores (Cabelas, etc.) and buy the clear plastic boxes they sell for lures. They have moveable dividers that you can insert to accommodate whatever sized cars you like. I use these for my daughter's Pixar CARS cars, which are also a little bigger (about 1/55 scale).

That's an awesome suggestion, PWSchuh. I'm gonna look into that.

I roll my open ones in paper towels, and along with the carded ones, are stored in the "under the bed" style shoe storage plastic bins.

Big Lou,
Speaking about CARS, I recently purchased two of these 96 count 1:55 Scale Plastic wall display units from this website for $75.00 each. I was lucky and got them with free shipping. However, I don't know if they are offering free shipping at this time. Here is their website. Might be what you are looking for, olesarge90/Gill

Thanks for the tip and link, sarge!

I actually planned to build my own display case once my basement was remodeled. But, of course, I have other projects in the house that have to be done first. And now, since me and the misses decided for a 3 year plan to move south, the display case gets a put on the backburner and I have to get this house fixed up for sell.

Wonder if my cars will ever get displayed? :(

I bought this case by ArtBin at JoAnn Fabrics Store. It fits my Hot Wheels 1:50 scale Camaros just perfect and one 1:32 scale Jada Camaro.

Hey Camaro22,

How much did that run you at JoAnn Fabrics? I got the lure case with dividers like PWSchuh said and they worked great, but I like the one you use.

was just going to ask the same thing.... from the angle the pic is taken it almost looks like you could stack another car on top (cushioned of course) of the cars already in there. But for as many of those as I would need... I need them to be CHEAP.

Otherwise, I have almost all of my Muscle Tunerz in a Plano case or two and they fit just fine.

It cost $9 but my wife gets a coupon through the mail for 40% off any single item, she let me use it so I got it for around $6.

Jefferson, the case is pretty slim so you won't be able to stack another car on top. Here's the dimensions: 15"L x 14"W x 2"H.

You can fit two 1:64 scale Jada cars on its side though. Just place a piece of card board or something in between them.

I wonder, though, if after awhile those slots will wear into the sides of the cars when moved about.

With that price I'm better off sticking with the Plano lure cases I got from Kmart. They ran at $5 each and I was able to fit roughly 24 Muscle Machine and Jada sized cars in it (stacked on top of each other).

I just need a temporary storage solution until the time comes when I have a room full of shelves and such to display my rides. For a while now I've been opening up the clamshell packaging that most of these diecast cars come in and then put them right back.

Yes it is a little pricey, that's why I only bought one. I just needed it for my Hot Wheels G-Machine Camaros.

The lure boxes can also be found at Kmart, Walmart etc and they are pretty cheap there.

I ordered this 24 car acrylic case from a fellow collector here in the Philippines.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v517/arch_jovet/the%20batcave/DSC00271.jpg

It's custom made by him and costs around $30 US.
He stopped making them a few years ago due to his current work but I'm glad that I ordered a lot from him.
Some are still stored in bubble wrap but most are displayed inside my glass cabinet. It can be wall mounted too.

past 3 years use resealable bags. They come in all sizes. Especially handy for the cars that have all the bits needed for restoration, can keep it all together in the one bag.

These are all great, but pricey. Somebody needs to come up with a great storage system thats cheap. Most of us who want to stroe cars, don't have only 12 or 24 cars. We have hundreds. i spend enough on these stupid little cars, I don't want to spend more than I have to to store or display them. I defiinitely like the hot boxes with the insert and how stackable they are, but I would want something like that for my sons 200 pixar cars he has.....but they are too big for the foam inserts they show. Any suggestions for the pixar cars?
