View Full Version : Tekin RX8/T8 on the way
hankster 04-18-2009, 05:52 PM Just got notice that my Tekin RX8 ESC and T8 motor (2050kv) is in the mail. I can hopefully get it installed before next weekend and give it a run. Will post pics and more info on how it runs once I get a chance to put it through it's paces. Stay tuned!
kzoolou 04-18-2009, 10:41 PM Jealous!!! Like the fact that you're checking it out. If you like it, I'm buying it too.
Uncle E 04-19-2009, 04:05 PM YOU SUCK-- I hope I beat you this weekend!

Jerzferno 04-30-2009, 06:30 PM Hankster - Where did you get yours from? A guy I race with bought one, and paid for 3 day shipping. It was supposed to be here this week. He was just told now not until mid May? Dont know where he ordered it from? Hes very...................well you can guess what.
hankster 04-30-2009, 08:16 PM I ordered mine well before most people even knew Tekin was working on the RX8/T8..... maybe 6+ months ago :) I don't want to speak for Tekin but my understanding is that orders from the distributors far outstripped the initial production run. I don''t know for a fact but I suspect few if any hobbyshops actually got as many as they ordered.
Jerzferno 05-01-2009, 12:03 PM Thanks for the info. Hey............this is off topic, but Spikeit and I wore our Team Hobby Talk Racing ball caps to opening day this past Sunday. I had 3 different people ask me where I got them. LOL Nice job on the hats Hankster.
hankster 05-01-2009, 03:35 PM Hehe... thanks for spreading the word!
Jerzferno 05-03-2009, 03:04 PM Got a few more nice hats comments today. That guy that was waiting, and waiting, and waiting for his Tekin went with a Mamba system instead. had it out before we got rained out. Runs nice.
3171scott 09-28-2009, 04:14 PM I just purchased a RX8 for my RC8 and what size screws are needed to mount. I was told 4mm. Is this true.
Thanks Scott
hankster 09-28-2009, 04:24 PM The screws are included.
3171scott 09-28-2009, 04:26 PM The screws are included.
Did they go in easy. i did not want to force them. I will take anouther look tonight when i get home. Thanks.

I went home and checked the box, and the only screws that were in the package were the 4 black pancake heads witch in your pics are used to mount the fan to spedo, and 4 silver pancake heads witch i think are for mounting the spedo to the chasie. the only other fastners in the box is the screw that is with the sensor wire tie down. The new combo's must not come with motor mounting screws?
So i ask again, are the the screws 4mm to mount the motor?
Thanks.

You can use either 3MM screws or 4MM screws. The endbell has six tapped holes - two sets of two are tapped for 3MM screws and one set of two is tapped for 4MM screws. The endbell can be removed and the orientation changed to get which ever pair of screws you want to use lined up with your motor mount. Many people use the 4MM screws because they are stronger but I have run a neu in a Losi 8 conversion for two seasons using just two 3MM screws to hold the motor in. The motor has never come loose, and I was using a plastic spur which would show me right away if my gear mesh has changed (by cratering:lol:).
You will have to supply your own screws - the Tekins (at least mine) do not come with motor mount screws.

hankster 09-29-2009, 03:36 PM Sorry, I thought you were talking about the ESC mounting screws.

Well i picked up 4mm Du-Bro screws and went to mount the motor, but the RC Products Des. motor mount only allowes 3mm screws. Did not want to mess with drilling out the mounting bracket so i picked up 3mm screws yesterday.
Anyone have objections to using 3mm instead of 4mm. Planning on running mostly indoor's an clay.
Thanks.
Losi 8ight T 10-31-2009, 02:12 PM I'm building a losi 8ight t brushless truggy. I just installed the losi electric conversion kit. Now I'm ready for a motor and speed control combo. Do you think the Tekin RX8/ Redline T8 1/8th Scale ESC/Motor Combo (2250kv) would be a good choice for me. I want to be able to compete in racing.
hankster 10-31-2009, 03:24 PM Most are running the 2050kv motor with a 4s pack. Some run the 1900kv.
Stateline R/C 10-31-2009, 06:55 PM RX8 Rules, Im having fun racing 1/8th scales again flip the on switch and you have more power than you could ever want. Im running the 1900

For a truggy you may prefer the 2000KV (4038 combo). Longer motor has more torque. That said, a guy I race with was very happy with a 2050 (4030) in a truggy. But he eventually decided to get the 2000 (4038) for his truggy and move the 2050 to his buggy.
hankster 11-01-2009, 02:56 AM You're right, didn't notice he said truggy.
TekinTeamMgr 12-19-2009, 12:16 AM I won the Open Expert Truggy class at the first ever ROAR 1/8 Champs race at Revelation running a Tekin T8 2000kv on 4s geared 15/45. The 2250 finished 2nd running 4s also geared 14/45.
rehab86 12-23-2009, 11:28 PM What advantages does the Tekin have over the Castle. Anyone ever see the tekin fail without reason?

Very curious myself. Also, what are the differences in the Tekin T8 motors for buggy and truggy? Seems to be more than just kv rating.
Stateline R/C 12-25-2009, 05:14 PM i have a tekin dave and happy with it had some problems at first but all were taken care of with no questions asked and its been great since. the tekin is sensored nice and smooth i have the 1900 buggy motor

Thanks for the info Kevin. Tekin sounds like a great system. Do you have the Hotwire interface? Or do you even need it?
Stateline R/C 12-25-2009, 08:57 PM i have been using some others when at the track but it was set up and i havnt messed with it since.
Stateline R/C 12-25-2009, 08:59 PM mike1985 could tell you more hes from michawalka (spelling bad) he has been getting 30min run times out of a truggy. hes a very helpful guy that is sponsered by tekin he set mine up
mike1985 12-27-2009, 11:21 PM The 2 buttons on the RX8 will allow you to adjust all the settings EXCEPT the motor timing and the reversing motor option 9 only needed on the Cster and Ve8.
You'll definatly want to set the lipo cut off before running it and set the neutral, wide open throttle and full brake before running it. Then just drive it and enjoy.
The Tekin truggy motors are longer and weigh more, they seem to be more torquey. The buggy motors are smooth as can be and have a ton of top end to them. With all the motor sizes avail. i would first pick what size lipo ( 4S,5S or 6S) then pick a buggy motor for buggy or a truggy motor for truggy.
To me the Tekin system is smoother, especially in the slow tight sections. The brakes are better and the customers service is the best in the buisness.
If you need any thing else , LMK.

Thanks for all info. I think I will definitely go with the Tekin. I've ran 1/10th sensored and not and agree that the sensored is definitely smoother. Thanks for the heads up on the Ve8, was looking at one of those for a buggy option. Looking at RC8T for truggy, what motor would you recommend for Stateline track, where I would run most of the time. Thanks again.
mike1985 12-28-2009, 10:30 AM The RC8T is a nice truggy that does well everywhere we go.
If you don't already have the lipo picked out I would get the Turnigy 6S 3300 lipo and run the Tekin RX8 with the 1350 motor. This combo will get you min. 15 min run time at stateline. You could go a little bigger too, but not over 4000. When you bigger than 4000 the packs get too heavey and with the standard set ups it throws the cars out of balance. Myself and a couple other guys I race with modified our truggy's to run TWO 6S packs in parrallel making them a 6S 6000 or a 6S 6600 with the 1350 motor. Gear the truggy with a 14 pinion and you'll have all the power you'll ever need and never have a heat problem. We run 30 plus min without stopping without fans in the ESC's and never go over 4 lights on the ESC's and the motors are 130 ish in temps.
we'll be spending most our race days at stateline next year. Our group likes racing there the most.
beattie117 12-28-2009, 01:17 PM Thanks again for all the info. I have the truggy on way, but haven't gotten the electronics yet. I will check out the lipos you recommended. I spend 90% of my free time at Kevin's track, 1st class operation and good people. Didn't get out there much last year, but plan on being there more this year. Thanks again.
Stateline R/C 01-19-2010, 06:35 PM we might be able to have more weekly races with the elect stuff, it dosnt take as many people to get things going, pit guys and marshalls. we will see
trackdog 01-19-2010, 08:19 PM +1 more brushless truggy at stateline. Just ordered the rcm kit to convert my rc8t, just gotta figure out the speedo/batt/motor combo.
Im also looking at getting into electric truggy also.
Stateline R/C 01-23-2010, 03:21 PM SWEET i got mine ready to go
