ST_ODIE 04-24-2009, 02:04 PM If not going to be there you will miss the Best Show and the Fastest Show on the west coast.
swtour 04-25-2009, 02:15 AM Today we had track clean up and Practice...
85 MPH was the fastest Straight a way speed with the insane cars...and the lap time was in the mid 7 second range on the 820 ft. track
21.5/LIPO current Record holder Joe Blackburn was SHOWING the way running the FASTEST laps in the 9.8 second range (A full .1 second faster than what he ran in February.)
Some are struggling to find SPEED, but several are fast! It's going to be FUN!!!

swtour 04-27-2009, 03:02 AM after what was a very long weekend, I have to say...I'm glad to be home.
The 3rd Annual ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT was probably one of the WORST ORGANIZED events I've ever been a part of.
The creative event format was confusing for most, some I believe HATED the way it was structured, and the race director made a few severe blunders in the way the event was layed out and presented.
Add to that the number of motors that teched in WAY below the already LOW "minimum" standard, and were disallowed to compete, some very aggressive driving and a few racers with Ill handling cars and the grueling punishment running a 6 minute (33 LAP) Velo Race at speeds over 53 MPH (21.5 Motors)
Once you get past the LONG, LONG delays, computer issues, printer issues, and frankly a bit of uncertainty on HOW this program was going to wind up...there was a small amount of INCREDIBLE racing that also took place.
...I'll explain the format of the race -- but it will leave most who read about it just as confused as the racers were all weekend long.
The "SHOOTOUT" would be a Twin 33 lap / 20 car event. Drivers would compete in 'SINGLE CAR' (4) lap qualifying which would place the racers in their assigned Heat Race....with each heat being made up of a mix of FAST and SLOWER cars. (A Total of 4 Heats)
Each driver would only compete in ONE heat race. (Much like a Saturday Night Speedway event) and the top (3) finishers from each heat would be transferred directly to the TWIN 33 lap main events.
The remaining drivers would then compete in a "Last Chance Qualifier" to fill the remaining spots.
....TOLD you it was confusing!
Along with this confusing event, there were two support classes made up of the regular SWT "Nastruck" and 21.5/LIPO "Sportsman" drivers. (These two classes would run a fairly normal race format structure with 5 minute Heats and Mains)
...and the ISC Insane Speed Run would also fill in some time during the weekend -- CHECK OUT that 90 MPH on the radar by NIC CASE!
swtour 04-27-2009, 03:25 AM ....now -- the GOOD PART
WOW!!
Yeah, there really wasn't a lot of racing...and some of the BEST and FASTEST racers didn't have Lady Luck on their side...
GARY HAMILTON - one of the MASTERS on the VELO had the suprise TQ in the (4) Lap session, after everybodies eyes were on Joe Blackburn (who currently holds the TRACK RECORD in the class) and Joe ran the single fastest lap during the practice sessions.

BUCK VAN PATTEN (Uncle Buck) Turned in THE Fastest 25 lap run in his Qualifying Heat, but due to the structure layout, and buck being in HEAT (4) his FASTEST RUN would only start him 4th in the field.
One of the HUGE "Race Director Errors" came in the 1st Segment on the scheduled 33 lap SHOOTOUT.
Segment one is only used to line up the starting grid for the FINAL Segment (Plus it has some prize goodies for the winner) , but the race director...who was fairly scatter brained, cut the race short, ending it at 25 laps intead of the scheduled 33 laps. (This mistake sent a few drivers almost over the edge in what is one of the MOST intense R/C Races. ) But JASON HASTINGS was declared the WINNER of the first segment, putting him on the POLE for segment TWO - (The ONE that counts)
As the event was paused to regroup and collect -- the FINAL Laps of Talledega were being watching via Satellite in the Gary Hamilton Pit trailer... (The VELO and Talledega share some simularities... It's FAST, it's some CRAZY racing, and with the 21.5 cars, they are like running restrictor plates at WIDE OPENED THROTTLE)
...it'll take a couple days to compose all the thoughts of this race, and some re-capping of the results to see exactly what happened to some of the front runners, but it will take NO TIME to congratulate JASON HASTINGS on becoming the 3rd ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT Champion in a well earned 20 car race.

Gary Hamilton 04-27-2009, 01:21 PM Congratulations to KSG Team Driver Jason Hastings for his WIN at the 2009 All Star Shootout. After a long practice day on Friday attempting to get his car up to speed Jason found the speed (with help from his 2 trailer buds) and put it all together on Saturday and Sunday. Great job Jason.
