View Full Version : Dedicated display case for Kyosho 1/64
Kotetsu 04-14-2009, 07:04 PM Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this have been posted before:
http://www.sideriver.com/hobby/minicar/special/64case-200710.html
These display cases looks wonderful and instantly incrase the value of the Kyosho cars as if they are museum displays. The only problem is the price... 7665Yen per case, or 8190Yen for the Beads collection.
How does everyone on the forum display their precious Kyosho collection? Please post your pictures to this thread so we can all share.
I've attached mine below. Sorry for the poor quality.
Thanks,
Josh
Atencio 04-14-2009, 09:43 PM That is a beautiful display Josh.
Now delve into the opposite of Josh's beauty.
It starts out ok. Cars inside are somewhat mismatched as the theme of my display is a work in progress. I am trying to record all my cars into a database and stuff is constantly moving around.

Protecto packs. Since I only have 9 Carney cases and other limited space as I enter my cars in the database I stick them in a protecto pack with a sticker identifying the car and diecast make.

The mess. Notice the fine layer of dust. Where is my wife?

And we won't even talk about the garage.
Kotetsu 04-14-2009, 10:21 PM Hi Atencio,
Thank you for posting the pictures. Wow, that's a serious jaw-dropping collection! It's amazing so see such a wide range of cars... and yes, I can see why you need a database to keep track of everything becuase it's hard to categorize your collection. I see trucks, hot-rods, imports, muscle cars, old classic cars... and on and on and on...
Thank you for sharing!
Josh
69Stang 04-14-2009, 11:03 PM Guys, I love both collections. But I have to say Kotetsu, that solid wall of cars makes a great presentation!! I really enjoied all the race replicas mixed throughout both sets of pics. You guys can post more pics every day and I wont get tired of them!
troopeur 04-15-2009, 12:14 AM Wow realy nice collection and display.
you give to me some idea for my collecting room
kneedeep56 04-15-2009, 01:27 AM Thanks for all the pics - your displays look terrific
I haven't decided how to display my Kyosho cars.
I really don't have enough to worry about it yet.
I love the idea of keeping them on the bases they come on - maybe a 1/43 size acrylic display case would hold the Beads bases and the regular bases.
I would hate to put them without their bases into an acrylic cases and have all the soft tires go flat, (out of round).
Here is a picture of my Hotwheels 100% cars.
The pic is about 3 or 4 years old and it has filled in since then.
I sold all those larger scale Jadas on the bottom shelf.

Kotetsu 04-15-2009, 03:04 AM Hi kneedeep56,
That's a nice looking wall of cars, very well organized. I really wish I have more space to put in more shelves. Hopefully in the future you can give us some close-ups? Looks like your organize by car types, correct?
Carney Plastics does have one model that will fit the Kyosho base (but not the Beads). When I e-mailed them the Kyosho's base spec and inquired about their case and dimension they suggested the 72 slot case w/dividers for 1/64 scale cars will fit. But before you buy better ask them again just to be sure as they may have made changes.
I don't have any Carney cases because I don't have any room. But if any fellow collectors on the forum have one for displaying Kyosho cars WITH the base please do post a picture! I'd love to see that because I think that's still the most professional way to display Kyosho cars.
Thanks,
Josh
69Stang 04-15-2009, 07:31 AM Love that shot as well Kneedeep! I am inspired to snap a few of my own cases. I only have 6 Kyosho's right now, but like all my others, they are loose in the case. I also worry about the future of the rubber, but for me, it's a risk I have to make.
Here's mine... sorry for the crappy shots though.
This is from one of our curios. I'll try to upload more photos next time.

troopeur 04-19-2009, 10:20 PM this is certainly the most rarest kyosho car.
it is available with display case I think ?
Kotetsu 04-19-2009, 10:23 PM Ah, that's why you need to get a 2nd one to open. =)
In the past when my only source for Kyosho cars was eBay it was difficult for me to buy complete sets and it was very very expensive. But now that I got a source in Japan it's actually easier to buy complete sets instead, but the shipping is still expesive. There are still many cars that I'm missing, like this super rare Ferrari 330P4, the red cars from Alfa Romeo release 1, and the white/red/blue '73 Carrera RS cars.
This collector in Hong Kong is almost 100% complete on his Kyosho cars plus many other 1/64 cars. Please take a look because it's a great visual reference:

troopeur 04-19-2009, 10:30 PM wow thank for information
Kotetsu 04-19-2009, 10:39 PM You are welcome troopeur,
I enjoy sharing good info with other collectors. May be we should start a seperate thread where we list links to web-sites that we frequently visit? Obviously we should stay away from commercial sites, but infomational and reference sites would be nice. What does everyone think?
Josh
Perhaps I will try to buy another one and open it...someday.
I made a big mistake not buying the Alfa 1 set, now the price is so high its comparable to a Series 1 Ferrari or a Lambo 1 set.
Thanks for sharing the link, I really love those CM's rally cars.
troopeur 04-19-2009, 10:58 PM Yeh Cm's car are realy nice too , I have around 40 Cms I place them in a small display like that .

I think with few tools a patience someone can do a P4 Spider with a regular P4 from collection 4
troopeur 05-03-2009, 02:05 PM I f you have other picture of your collection , sned it this realy cool to see other collection , I don't decide the way to display mine
Kotetsu 05-03-2009, 05:08 PM Here's a close-up of my display. The main case is from IKEA. The white shelves are made from foam poster boards. They are the cheapest material available and the easiest to work with, and the white color makes it look nice and clean. The only problem that I have is that the foam board will sag if I place too many cars on it. I still need to work out some method to reinforce it. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know.

Josh
Atencio 05-03-2009, 06:32 PM Pretty nice display Josh.
Can you place some type of block under the foam shelves? I would think one or two spaced out across the length of the shelf would do it. Something cheap and easy to work with like wood.
Kotetsu 05-03-2009, 06:43 PM Yeah, I should give that a try. The sagging only occur at the first leading edge where there's just a single sheet of foam board. The shelves toward the back have tiered support so they stay in shape. The problem is finding something small in profile yet strong enough to span 30 inches in a single piece. I've tried making T shaped support with smaller strips of the foam board but that's still too weak. Maybe I can find some acrylic strips or tubes... yeah.... time to visit Tap Plastics.
Thanks,
Josh
troopeur 05-03-2009, 08:06 PM Nice Collection , you give me idea.
kneedeep56 05-03-2009, 08:16 PM That is an excellent display Josh.
Keep all your pics coming - some great, never thought of ideas being shown.
(at least never thought of by me)
Denis
Tomylord 05-04-2009, 12:54 AM nice display..love to see them all up close someday.
Josh - really great collection! Thank you very much for sharing.
Superbird77 05-04-2009, 04:10 AM http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu260/ShaoFeiLon/DSCF1810.jpg
That's an extensive collection!
What series is the upper left white 911 from (third row from top)? Does it have open engine bay?
69Stang 05-04-2009, 06:58 AM Guys, you just keep blowing me away with these collection photos! Keep em' coming...
Kotetsu 05-04-2009, 07:03 PM Hi, That 911 is not Kyosho, it's from Hot Wheels. And yes, it does have good engine details. I believe there's a silver one on eBay right now. Only if HW would make more cars in this type of quality then I'd start collecting more HW. Their 100% series is great but over priced. In my display I do have AutoArt, HW, CM's, and others mixed in, so the title of the thread might be a little misleading.
Josh
troopeur 05-04-2009, 08:43 PM in the 50th porsche anniversary ( HOT WHEELS) you have 3 cars with open hood.
550 Roadster
930 Turbo
917
http://www.southtexasdiecast.com/hwguide/images/hwset/19486.jpg
kneedeep56 05-04-2009, 08:52 PM That 917 is one of my favourite HW 100% cars
That 550 spyder has excellent interior detail :)
Denis
Atencio 05-04-2009, 09:20 PM I have the 917 HW from the Real Riders Series which is the same blue as the #2 car but alas does not have the orange stripe or Gulf decals. Pretty nice car.
Kotetsu 05-05-2009, 02:10 AM Thank you for the picture troopeur. I'll have to try to hunt down that HW set. The 917 is beautiful. Hopefully Kyosho will make more Porsche race cars in the future.
I think this is the HW Porsche that I have: eBay item # 120414269175, currently at $0.99!
sheldon 05-07-2009, 02:47 AM The HW Porsche in this set is DRASTICALLY SUPERIOR TO ANYTHING FROM KYOSHO/CM/HIGHDETAIL/AUTOART.
Though similar in surface detail to the asian castings, the HW goes up a whole other level with engine and undercarriage detail.. let alone an opening cowling.
Kotetsu 05-07-2009, 03:51 AM But... when it really comes down to the facts, aren't all of them made in China? =)
I guess in the real world, for mass produced die-cast cars the engineering part, more often than not, goes into cost measures vs profitability, and in the end there will always be a trade off to details and accuracy. The truely "perfect" models can only be found in those one-of-a-kind museum peices scratch built by true hobbist who dedicated their life to the craft. One obvious example will be the fully functional Ferrari model made by Frenchman Pierre Scerri Avignon that many of you probably already know about:

of course not kyosho but you know what!!:)
Superbird77 05-12-2009, 04:19 PM There are some sweet collections on display in the following blog:
http://noritaina.exblog.jp/
Kotetsu 05-12-2009, 05:18 PM Hi Superbird77,
Very nice blog, thanks for the link. I've added it to my bookmarks.
At that site there's a picture of the Scuderia Ferrari Transporter. Does anyone here can offer more info about it? Is that one of the prize car from the DyDo F1 collection? On the DyDo F1 blister pack it says the Iveco transporter is 1/64. Is that true? From the picture is tooks a bit smaller sitting right next to the F1 cars.
Does anyone here have one to take a picture with for a size comparison? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Josh
troopeur 05-12-2009, 05:23 PM Realy nice blog a lot of information....like the kyosho Red audi R8 ???
For the Ferrari transporter look at this link

Kotetsu 05-12-2009, 05:50 PM Hi troopeur,
Thank you for the link. Those are very cool pictures plus excellent customs. The rest of the forum is excellent too and I've bookmarked it.
The transporter's scale looks nice. I guess I'll try to buy one of that Scuderia transporter.... more money out of my wallet...Does anyone know how much the Ferrari transporter is selling for?
The red Audi R8 is like one of the hardest to find Kyosho cars. I believe they were part of special release for the Frankfurt Auto Show. There were several Audi models that had color variations different from the regular Kyosho release. Some were available through HK and Chinese sellers, possibly as factory second.
Hong Kong collector Marcus has them at his site, but no red R8:
http://www.hongwell.netfirms.com/html/audi_series.html
Thanks for the info,
Josh
troopeur 05-13-2009, 12:41 AM I saw a lot of colors variations in the audi set , very nice but certainly hard to find :(
Superbird77 05-13-2009, 03:45 AM This one?
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b112/superbird77/audi_r8.jpg
It was part of the Audi dealer series... i think it was available in Audi showrooms in Europe but I'm not sure in which countries.
