I have been looking for quite a while for a larger diecast to display on my desk and after some thought I decided to go with 1/24, not too big, still lots of detail, but not the behemoth that 1/18's are. Well the next choice was which car?.. of course! My favorite car, the Shelby Cobra. After much searching across ebay I found a WIX promotional model of a Blue with White stripes 427s/c. Perfect!!!

The detail on this thing is incredible, and the price was very reasonable!

Well, then I realized I was in a little dilemma... I had caught the bug. I came across a Grabber Blue Boss 429 by Franklin Mint, my favorite non-shelby Mustang, for a very good price. I had to add that to the Cobra...

Since adding the Cobra and the Boss 429, I've also got a hold of a HW's 67 GT-500, a GL 07 GT-500, and a WIX GT-40 MkII. I don't have pictures of the others yet, but I will post them once I do.

I've also taken an interest in 1/24 engines. Anybody see these before? They come in a blisterpack like a jl or gl almost.

There are quite a few others, Fords Mopars and Bowties but the main one that I want but can't find is the 460 flathead with a massive supercharger on top...

What brand are those engines? Where have you been finding them? I like 'em!

The brand is Phoenix I think (I can't remember where I put the papers from them). If you do a search on ebay for 1/24 engine you can find most of the Ford and Chevy's, however there are some Pontiacs and Mopars and more obscure Ford and Chevy engines that are much harder to find. They come with the little engine stand too.

I am so glad you found that Cobra. I did a photo thread back last year when that bad boy came out, what an amazing car! I think it may be one of the best 1:24 Cobras out there at any price! Love the combo with the Stang, nice additions!

I am still excited about it and I've had it for over a month! Do you have a link for that thread? I would be interested in seeing it. Have you seen the competition version of the WIX Cobra? If I remember correctly, it's white and has the little drivers wind screen instead of a full windshield.

Hi All,

I've been hooked on Danbury and Franklin Mint diecast too long. There are still about a dozen releases I don't have. Someday .......

The thread is still here, but I deleated the photobucket pics out a while back. But the same car as you have there.

As for the white one, that was modeled after the Cobra used in the Evlis movie "Spinout". I think I read it was the only time that the car had been produced in 1:24. I had ordered that one from my local auto parts store, but they shipped the blue one intstead. After seeingit, I said..."NO PROBLEM" and carried it right home!

Hey Scott, I think I owe you a call, it's my turn! Be watching that thing ring this week!

Hi Ward,

I was thinking it's been too long since we talked. I'll look forward to your call my friend. Happy Easter and have a good week.

I figured that might be the case with the thread. Honestly the white one is cool but I think you lucked out getting the blue one instead, it's a beautiful piece.

Scott, thanks for sharing your collection! I hope to have a Shelby/Ford collection some day like you have with Mustangs :thumbsup:
