4/7 Tuesday night @ Indy Slots. The sliders had 6 entrants tonite. Jeremiah Ward was back and just fell short of "pissing excellence". Perhaps another day ricky bobby. Although he wasn't perfect , Jeremiah pulled off the win w 81 laps and had the fastest lap of the day w a 3.46. 2nd place went to Jeff Grahn w 75 laps and 3rd went to Mike Jackson who also had 75 laps - 1/2 sec behind 2nd place. 4th was Jerry Morgan(73) , 5th to Bill Pennington (72) and 5th loser was Gregg Grahn (71). Fastest lap times of all 6 entrants was btw 3.46 - 3.67. Come join us next time on April 14th. Happy Easter !

This list came from the guys who had them in the Indy area- Most of us have only raced at Slots. What do you have against racing at Slots ?

There is a trophy race at Ft Wayne the 25th of April. We could take them up there and race them. It would be fun.

slots just isn't fun running there when they put 8 or so slidders in one heat .....

Brad Boling
04-10-2009, 09:52 PM
They haven't been doing that the past few weeks, Jason...But then again, the car count has been down just a bit, also. 5 max in the heats is good. 8 or 9 in the main, that's fine with me, set it on kill, hope for the best. I do like the re-shuffle after the first heat. And once again...Random setup of heats!! I agree that running 8 in a qualifier stinks, especially when you are trying to get a fast clean run in. $.02

Luke1116
04-10-2009, 10:38 PM
My suggestion would be that if there are 8 or more cars then they should be split up. I would like to see a random draw for the first heat and a reshuffle for the second heat , with the top half of qualifiers from the first heat together in one 2nd heat and the bottom half of qualifiers from the 1st heat together in the other 2nd heat. Then you take the top 5 qualifiers from any of the heats and transfer them directly into the A main. The remaining cars run a B main and you transfer either 1 or 2 of them to the back of the A main making it a 6 or 7 car A main.
If there are 7 cars or less - everybody runs the same heat and everybody makes the A main. 8 cars - 2 heats of 4. 9 cars - 5 car heat & 4 car heat. 10 cars - 5 & 5. 11 cars - 6 & 5. 12 cars - 4,4 & 4. etc.
As far as racing at Slots , I only speak for the Slider guys - We have had some great racing and the group of guys have been great. Seems to me that the #1 factor in having a good time is the group of guys you run with. We rarely have anything happen that would bring on an "f" bomb. Hope it continues that way.

what about racing by laps? heats invert....then bump up to feature, like real racing.

Gunpowder

Why not try something we did at New Castle and have a 2 lap qualification and let the times decide what heat your in. I still say drawing numbers is faster and just as fair as anything. I also think the biggest problem they have at the slots is turn marshaling . When I first started racing RC twenty some years ago, the guys that were racing would kinda tell the new guys what to do in the corners (and we never used reverse.) I've had my car set on the track after being flipped to incoming traffic and that just keeps the cycle going. My 2 Cents........................ Wes

Luke1116
04-11-2009, 09:49 AM
Wes, A couple races ago I flipped and was upside down. The turn marshall (a young kid) picked up my car , put it back down (upside down !), and walked away. LOL - such is life ! Why get upset - if I hadn't wrecked to start with it wouldn't of happened.

Brad Boling
04-11-2009, 10:47 PM
Well Gregg, that is certainly more important. Chad May is another name to add to the Slider list. He came down to Slots with Wes, Butch and Myself once, and he always ran good at NC.

jerrymorgan

Turn marshals should marshal the way they would want to be marshaled. At slots they dont control who marshals kids there are to young and most of the adults dont care to help i thought 1-4 always was supposed to marshal. IF not they get d/q simple as that but nobody at slots has the balls to take the bull by the horns and enforce any rules. THATS WHY YOU LOSE SO MANY GOOD RACERS AKA THE DOCTOR MOSS JASON BAD DOGZ CRIST AND IF WERE NOT CAREFUL THERE WILL BE MORE JUST MY THOUGHTS BUT I DO LIKE THE IDEA OF 5/6 IN HEAT 8 IS WAY TO MANY .

Luke1116
04-11-2009, 11:41 PM
I'm with ya Jerry - The only reason I say to race 7 in one heat is that I don't feel that a 3 car heat is enough cars. Therefore , I don't think they should be split until you get 8 cars ( 4 & 4). And it would be one less race to run too. If you do split them 4 & 3 then invariably someone won't like it that they had to run w 4 cars and the other heat only had 3. I wonder if Jessica would just let us make up our lineups as long as we had them to her in ample time. We could blind draw for the first heats then follow the previously posted lineups accordingly. If someone shows up late then we just tag them to the back of a heat (the one w less cars if it is an uneven # of cars.)

Brad Boling

I like the idea of a blind draw for the first heat. Fair is fair for everyone. Then re-shuffle for the second heat.

I LIKE the draw idea thats as fair as it gets and simple. SO how many are planning on running tuesday. I should be there unless we get a 70 degree sunny day then i would practice the 1/4 scale but it's supposed to rain so we should be there.

4/14/2009 Tuesday Night Sliders.

While helping to set up the track someone inquired to Nick if we could make the track a bit longer to change it up a bit. He said to go ahead. We pulled the carpeting about 2' longer at the pole turn and it made for an interesting change for the night.
I also asked Nick if we could institute the pill draw for the slider class and he said go ahead (he understood we would be providing him with lineups). There were 8 cars so we did the pill draw and split them into 2 heats of 4. Alas, when it came time to race Jessica had all of us in one heat and said we were not allowed to run more than 8 heat races on Tuesday nights per Doug. So we ran all 8 of us together in both heats.
Heat #1 went to Gregg Grahn w 76 laps , 2nd to Jeff Grahn 74 & 3rd to Jerry Morgan 71. Fast time of the heat was a 3.58 by Jeremiah Ward. Unfortunately Rick Bobby (Jeremiah) was having rear end probs (with the car perverts !) and wasn't competitive this night. He'll be back with a vengeance for sure. Fast times in this heat ranged from 3.58 - 3.86.
Heat #2 went to Jeff Grahn with 75 laps, 2nd to Jerry Morgan 72 & 3rd to Gregg Grahn 69. Fast time of this heat on the scoresheet shows a 3.005 turned in by Jerry Morgan (uhhh Jerry the tech committee is looking for you). So if we toss out Jerry's lap as an anomaly (fancy word for screw up) then the fast time for heat 2 went to Jeff Thinnes with a 3.66. Fast times for heat 2 ranged from 3.66 - 3.86.
The A main was taken by yours truly (wahooooooo !) Gregg Grahn with 76 laps, 2nd Jeff Grahn (for a Grahn sweep !) with 75 laps, 3rd Jeff Thinnes 74, 4th Mike Jackson 71, 5th Jerry Morgan 68, 6th Jason Crist (first timer - glad to have ya Jason - hope ya keep coming out to race w us ) 63 laps, 7th to Ricky Bobby 36 laps and 8th to Bill Pennington w 4laps ( I guess Bill was driving the high groove !)
We had another great race - fun was had by all and we hope to see everybody this Sunday. It's My anniversary but the boss said I could race (this is gonna cost me). Butch Gillock called Sunday night and said the New Castle boys will be there ( that could be up to 7 cars !) Jeff Grahn will be at Long Beach Grand Prix (IRL). Ricky Vaughn should be racing the real Sprint Car in a USAC race in Lawrenceburg Saturday night if anyone is interested. See Ya Sunday ! - Gregg

Rickey,

There were 6 baby sprinters. I started from the pole and led abt 1/2 the race. Jeff G passed me but then he broke out. I had 71 laps.

nice write up bro

this was my 1st time ever racing and RC car ...
so sorry if i was in the way
and if i hit anyone....i think i hit everybody
8 cars in one heat is the reason i am not racing at slots anymore
thats was a stupid reason not to run 2 heats of slidders......
good luck to all who who still race at slots ................

To me that shure as hell seems like a shady excuse not to split up the slider heats. It would tack on 10 minutes or so total to the the evening if you ran them all in the main. I hope they don't pull that on Sunday. It appears the racers try to get a good thing going that everyone seems to agree on and it gets shot down.

so...there was time wasted on pill draw and setting heats up then never followed through with and ran 8 in a heat anyway!
the time that was wasted to pill draw and setup heats took longer than heat race. don't figure?......

mGraves

They could've ran two heats, but instead decided to tech ride height and motors on Figure 8 Legends instead. What a joke. I could've had a 10.5 in and I think it would've passed. Boycott for a week....I bet it changes. That's too many in a heat race!
