I recently participated in an online discussion about whether the base that came with a reissue of the UFO from The Invaders had originally been included with Dick Tracy's Space Coupe (the short answer was, yes). During this discussion it occurred to me that most vehicles of any subject don't come with a base on which to set the finished model. I got to thinking that there might be some interest out there in a generic, rocky base for that purpose. So I sculpted one that's roughly 10" X 7" and fits nicely on a standard 12" X 9" wooden craft plaque, if a modeler would want to go the extra mile. As is usually the case - at least, for me - it took several test shots before I figured out how best to do the castings. Now here's where you come in:
I have five of these test bases that came out okay, but that I don't feel are quite up to standard. Mainly it's the uneven surface of the bottoms of the pieces that bother me. So I'm offering them here for $10.00 plus whatever the postage would be to get them to you. The bubble mailer and cardboard packing weighs in at 15 oz., so you can calculate the postage for yourself; it's coming from Toledo, Ohio USA.
The next castings will go up on eBay for rather more than ten bucks, so if you're interested (and don't mind sanding the bottom of the base flat), you'll be getting a handy item for quite a bit less than it'll be later on. I think the photos tell you all you'll need to know about these bases. You can see that they were made to interlock so that you can connect them at the side to make a longer base, or front to back to make a deeper one. These bases will fit most of the smaller scale Aurora vehicles, Star Wars fighters, or even the AMT Galileo 7. They could also be used with Aircraft, Armor, Automotive subjects, or figures as well. You decide!
If you're interested, please shoot me an email, and thanks for looking.
