What do you use and were you get your Foam front bumpers from?

BSR and CustomWorks are my favorites. CsutomWorks has a self adhesive glue which makes it easy, but don't let motorspray or tire sauce get near it because it softens the glue. Shoe Goo is my favorite. Both of the above bumpers shape real easy with dremel/xacto/sissors.

I've never seen John's, but I've used the Custom Works ones...

I'm not sure which ones Doug is looking for...but I'm looking for something like the old ones BEEFY had. (Same basic foam that Custom Works uses..but much LARGER)

I generally try to get newbies to use large foam bumpers to protect their investment...and I use the BIG ONES..cause I like to SLAM into things.

IRS makes a foam block with adhesive on 1 side so you can make any shape you want. It is 3" wide X 6.5" long X 1/2" thick.

Dave,

Is that something that's on your website?

Do you sell it in larger sheets?

swtour,
No it is not, sorry. We are working on building a new web site for the future and I have let this go for awhile. I will ask Hank to get it on the site.
The P/N is IRS4080 - $7.99 each. You can call me direct @ 609-476-2371.

toytech,

The mats don't have the density we're looking for

You can get a gardening kneeling pad from Pike's Family nursary that works very well. It is a lot denser than the Home Depot / Lowes varity.

I cut them oversized with x-Acto knives, shoe-goo them down with overhang to the CF bumper plate, then sand them with sanding drums chucked in a drill. I match them very closely to the body then lighten them up with a dremel mini drum sanders. It's a big deal to change a body because I have to go through all of this work again. The good news is that I don't break parts or ruin bodies when I crash.

St. Odie can now match his paint scheme color:

hehe.. wait isnt that "cyrul" green?

Yeah, there is no doubt that you can preserve a body much longer if the bumper is form fitted to match. I use my wife's serated bread knife (shhhh, don't tell) to get the rough shape, then I finish it off with 100 grit sand paper.

I have a few keeling pads that I use for bumper material. Cut to rough size, shoe goo them to the bumper plate and then sand/shape accordingly to fit your body.

Repeat of what Bob said, but since I learned the trick from him I guess it's fair to repeat :)

Thanks guys...

I have some stuff on the way..I'll see if it is what I'm looking for.

There is lots of stuff that "WORKS" but MOST is too spongy for what we're looking for.

The old T.D. bumpers worked great...but I haven't seen a NEW one of those in 12-15 years. The BEEFY bumpers we're pretty awesome too. VERY LIGHT - VERY Firm...easy to shape and made the nose of the car like a battering ram.

I actually have a couple sheets of a couple different types of fairly firm foam...but NONE of it is what I'm looking for. (and it's all firmer than the kneeling pads)

just a hint - at over 60 MPH the spongy stuff has too much GIVE and lets the body distort too much.

I used a BSR on my 12th scale and when I would hit something it would spring back into traffic. It was a real crowd pleaser.

SWTour,

Kneeling pad from PIKE FAMILY NURSERY. It is EXACTLY what you want.

The stuff I had ordered came today. It's very dense, but still feels too rubbery... It's also quite a bit heavier than what I'm looking for.

(It'll work ok on Short Tracks for DAMAGE control) but I'll keep looking for the SUPER DENSE "Dry Feeling" HARD and LIGHT WEIGHT stuff too.

(I'm looking for a couple of 8" x 3" x 1" thick pieces)

The best I've found is P-Dub bumpers. Not cheap, but simply the lightest and hardest material I've ever seen. To give you an idea, you can barely put a thumbprint in it when squeezing as hard as you can. P-dubracing.com (http://pdubracing.com/onlinestore/catalog/) and Schumacher (http://www.racing-cars.com/usa/search.asp?fromaddtoorder=yes&subcatid=320&templateid=43&sortname1=partno) distribute them.

James

I did have a P-Dub tc bumper, and that IS virtually what appears to be the same foam as what Beefy had and what I'm looking for.

I have quite a bit of "OTHER" types of foam to use until I find what I'm looking for - but I keep looking for THE RIGHT STUFF!

Yesterday, I tried to buy some generic P-Dub bumpers from Schumacher, and they don't have them (even though their web store says otherwise). They are not expecting stock either. In the past, getting a hold of Paul from P-dub was not easy. I'll try again now and report back.

Thanks James

I know our LHS use to carry the PDub TC bumpers, but said they can't seem to get them even.

I have a couple more samples coming from other sources too -
