For 2009, this track is undergoing some major changes!

The oval size will be increased to 360 feet - a 1/4 scale quarter mile, 1/8th scale 1/2 mile!!!!!!

A big 'ole track that will be hosting the 2009 Quarter Scale Dirt Nationals (QSAC)......

I'll try to post some updates as they occur!!!!!!

or seeTimberline Raceway! (http://www.timberlineraceway.com)

Well, some more of us got together at Timberline Raceway in Osawatomie, KS on the 21st and did a bit of work!!!!!!!

The oval track is coming along GREAT - the 'back straight' (former front straight) needed a bit of a 'raise' so Dave asked his buddies at Larry Harris Excavating to lend a bit of a hand with some dirt movin' equipment!

LOL!!!!!!!

Dave is VERY inclined to listen to racer input - you never know..... :)

With that said, his septic tank lies at the exit to turn 4!!!!!! I'm thinkin' the dirt has pretty good 'job security' at this point!!! :)

It's time for some updates from Timberline!

After another great work day at Timberline!

Lots of good help today - and lots of work got done!

Sadly, yesterdays 2" of rain re-soaked the off road track - so no work got done down there! BUT, quite a bit was accomplished on the oval!

First here's some pictures from last week of the oval drivers's stand and the handicapped 'perch' - this puppy is HEAVY DUTY!

http://chris-k.smugmug.com/photos/532335499_u44UT-M.jpg

and Steve Larson was 'paint meister' today and got the irrigation system painted such a pretty yellow color! Steve didn't pick the paint though - he just applied it - I understand HIS favorite color tends to be something along the lines of burnt umber!

and finally, some FENCE WORK on the oval - all of those weeks of preparation are now beginning to get 'planted' in the oval!!!!!

and finally an overview shot showing the perimeter marked out on the oval!

Soooo, progress continues to be made!!!!!

IF we could just a get a bit of cooperation from the weather......

AND here are some pictures! We've had a bit of cooperation from the weather over the holiday weekend and things are really coming together!

Thanks to lots of hard work by Joe Lammers (& Colin too!), Tim Murphy, Casey Prough, Steve and Robert Larson, Billy Pappin and of course the always hard working Chris & Dave Smreker!

AND, the oval track is really beginning to take shape!

The principal project for this week was the fence for the oval track! When we last left off there were 5 posts set - when we left today almost all of them were set! HUGE progress! In addition, the trenching for the irrigation system was dug - an operation which could not be done untill the final grade of the oval was completed!

Soooo, how 'bout some pictures?

So, a GREAT weekend of work with a GREAT crew of volunteers has resulted in a LOT of forward progress!

Thanks so much to everyone who helps out and to Dave and family for providing a GREAT facility!

Sorry to be so late posting - I've been trying to get a few things done BUT I'm here in beautiful Sioux Falls, SD and have a quiet moment so here we go!

We had a GREAT crew last weekend at Timberline and a LOT of progress was made on both the oval and the off road!!!!

First the oval - since this is an OVAL thread!

The irrigation system is completely finished, tested and working perfect! Dave reports that the only part of the track that doesn't get watered is the top 6" or so! NOT a great place to run with a quarter scale and NOT somewhere I plan on running with my 1/8th late model!

http://chris-k.smugmug.com/photos/557034241_ucv4w-M.jpg

Did I mention the fence??? We actually worked Dave out of fence! BUT, I understand that there's more due this Friday! :) The gates got hung the week before and truly you can see the end in site!

Dave & Billy worked hard getting the plasma cutter (yup!) set up and got the pilings for the Driver's Stand leveled, cemented and cut to appropriate length! All that needs to be done on these is a quick check by the building inspector and a fill with cement! THEN comes the task of setting the 6000# Driver's Stand on top!

OH, and all the pit tables are re-painted and ready to go in the off road area!

BUT a seriously LARGE amount of work was accomplished by our crew this weekend! Thanks to Steve and Robert Larson, Joe Lammers, Tim and Carter Murphey, Casey Prough, Billy Pappin and some silly old man that seems to show up from time to time..... You can't say enough about the leadership and inspiration shown by Dave & Chris Smreker - these guys NEVER quit and keep on diggin'!!!!!
