View Full Version : new hyperdrive car
MIKE VALENTINE 09-19-2002, 09:04 AM CypressMidWest thanks. i think you can find similarities between any car you look at, let it be hd, adx, l30, racetech, kgb. some simply rules apply if you need to mount a speedo or reciever you need material under it, to mount to.
FroDaddyy
drave as soon as barry slows down a little from the back log of orders.
Danny B 09-19-2002, 10:58 AM There is probably a fairly good reason that the new HD and the new ADX bare some similarities:devil:
I ran the new car last weekend for the first time on flat track carpet, It flat out turns. Actually too much all day but that is better than pushing.
Mike V. I have ?'s D1BART@aol.com

ericsalvas 09-21-2002, 05:44 PM here's the hot setup i used(5min track record WWW.GRCSR.COM)on a 166ft slightly banked ozite track...
-wheelbase(front middle...rear short....10")
-offset(rear offset...front left:IN right:OUT)
-battery tray all way to the front...pack in rear 4 slot(front slot empty)
-*WOLFE* springs(FRONT L:green std R:red std...REAR L+R:gold center:chrome TC3)
-damping(front:bolink#3 rear sides:40wt center:60wt piston#1)
-wedge(not much!)
-*BSR BLUES* tires(front L:40 R:44 rear L:36 R:40...LR rim width cut to 46mm)
-rear width(200mm)..LR 1mm out versus LF
in practice the car was little loose off...then i moved the right front all way out(it was in middle position...)then BINGO!

toytowne 09-22-2002, 07:19 AM I just got 700 looks great. question for Eric is...
BY moving lf and rf in and out how does that effect handling.
( for tuning ).. and what is a good place to start with them?
I see Salvas but I'm not 100% clear on it yet.
ericsalvas 09-22-2002, 10:04 AM toytowne..
moving the inside(left)wheel out...should give you steering going in...and moving the outside(right)wheel out..will tighten up going out...
i started with the LF all way in..and the RF in middle position...after a couple of pack this way..i was a little loose off corner..so i moved the RF all way out and..without playing with wedge or spring..it resolved the problem...

GiantScale 09-22-2002, 11:24 AM I may be rushing this ,but I feel the L30 im running will limit me as time passes.
Kind of a far fetched question.. but,
How often does H.D. release new cars, and how long will parts be available to continue to run the 0700 ?. Will hop up parts be needed, or is it tricked out already?
Thanks
Mike
TOME57 09-22-2002, 12:37 PM I think their results speak highly of this new car.
I'll be picking mine up at the post office tomorrow - I was racing on Saturday and the mailman didn't want to leave it at the house and have the competition steal my new Hyperdrive!

toytowne 09-22-2002, 07:59 PM Eric
How did you get 200mm rear width, lf 1mm in from
lr and have lf in furtherest inside position ?
ericsalvas 09-22-2002, 08:20 PM first off....rear pod in offset position...
then..LF suspension in the inside position(in narrower position)
the LR rim is cut to a 46mm width(remove the outside lip of a BSR rim)
then you shim the LR hub so the outside edge of LR rim is approx 1mm out versus LF
finally you shim RR hub so the overall rear width is 200mm(the RR rim is in full width)
if the car is loose...you move the RR in or LR out...if car is tight...you can move LR in or RR out...this way your playing with the rear tracking position...let me explain this to you...
if you move the axle to the right...you move the pushing center point to the right...doing so...the car will have a tendency to turn itself while in acceleration(on the throtle)if you move the axle to the left...it will tighten up the car in acceleration(off the corner)...
you could experiment this by pushing yourself the car...if you push it in the centerline in the rear..the car move straight...more you move your position to the right...the car wil then turn to the left on the desk...
so..if you measure the rear center point...if its in the center of the chassis...then the car should be neutral...if its to the right of the centerline of the chassis(where the t-plate...center shock..are located)...the car will turn easier on throtle...wich is needed in OVAL...
this is why...when you move the RR out(or LR in)..you loose the car...
HYPERDRIVE..came with a new adjustment...with the front offset being adjustable...this way your able to go further...you could play with the front...instead of the rear...if you move your front center point to the left...your loosening the car(this is just like moving the rear to the right...)and vice-versa
hope this helps..

MIKE VALENTINE 09-23-2002, 08:53 AM GiantScale you can still get parts for all hd cars, adreniline-10, pro sse, 510 bt, 500, and even the pti cars. so i would say parts will be available for many years to come. as far as new cars it really depends on how the market and other cars change. but the new car has alot more adjustments the older cars so should be competitive for years. as for needing hopups i say no, but most people like getting castor blocks and different shock mount. besides that i can't think of anyting you would possable need. mike valentine team hyperdrive
MIKE VALENTINE 09-23-2002, 08:56 AM steve and eric glad to see the car ran well for you. i ran this weekend at r/c madness tq and win i'll leave feedback on your site tonight. the car does tend to have alot of steering.
GiantScale 09-23-2002, 10:42 AM Thanks Mike!
Parts for Years to come... Iv GOT to get one!
How long has the pti been out?
Is rc4less.com the best, or only place to get them?
Thanks again..
Mike Kolder
MIKE VALENTINE 09-23-2002, 12:44 PM the pti as i call it had a real name can't remember it. it was out 92 or 93 long time ago. i think stx or somrting like that. http://ebay3.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_e8c954c04b04d97f5c8a89a37af85bdc/i-1.JPG theres apicture of one. but most of the time it's just better to upgrade when you break old stuff.
1Starpower 09-23-2002, 02:53 PM Mike, that is an old 0500 SSE there. I think that was the last one that PTI produced, my instructions for my SSE is copyrighted 94.
The STX's chassis has about 1/4 inch more space between the pod and chassis than the SSE. Parts will innerchange with these cars from the 510. May have to drill a hole but it will work.

MIKE VALENTINE 09-23-2002, 03:16 PM 1Starpower thanks i wasn't running oval back then, i was runnng touring cars when it wasn't the hot thing to do.

MIKE VALENTINE 09-24-2002, 08:38 AM eric they don't have any saturday racing up there. friday and sundays just seems like it's limiting outsiders from racing there. it means you need to take a day off from work to race. i'd love to make it up there but won't if theres only friday/ sunday racing. what does the track do on saturdays?
ericsalvas 09-24-2002, 09:55 PM mike...theres plenty of practice on saturday...and we're racing sunday up from 11am to max5pm....wich still leave you enough time to go home on sunday evening...ct is less than 5hour away...
anyhow...we'll try to manage something for you guys...

frank p. 09-27-2002, 11:50 PM Eric or Steve
how long would it take from the northern ohio area say Akron?
i really would love to come up. the track looks awesome!
frank p.
Smokey
Get the TRC Spring steel t-plate it is made of a much better material than the Hyper t plate, Part # TR6263 for the MED.As I understand it is not being made Anymore but you should be able to find one on the net.
Okay let me get this straight,It doesn't matter which, front or rear, you adjust tracking width? but where is the best starting point for say a 510? if I'm going to adjust front do I need to have the rear in a nuetral position and vice versa, would it be best to start with both front and rear in nuetral and work from there? this is for banked asphalt and concrete oval. One more question, if I'm feathering the RR do I need more rear bite? I've curretly got .020 under the front of the t-plate?
ericsalvas 09-28-2002, 10:06 AM hey frank p. ...
i made the trip to akron for the nats 2 years ago...and it took me approx 10hours..(not a big deal...)
we're having two big sunday race...so hey...plan your trip...you won't regret it!..
Todd Putnam is been a regular since two years now..and could'nt believe how well its being run..last year Arnie Fie..came...and was really impressed too!..

smokey 09-29-2002, 06:15 PM I emailed bruce from rc for less and he told me that hyperdrive had not released andy extra parts but thought that he would have the new parts by next tuesday and he would update his web page ......i hope this helps someone else...thanks...i cant wait to try my 700 out
JW Housley 09-30-2002, 01:36 AM All I have to say is........THIS BABY TURNS!!!!!!! Ran the car this past weekend and aside from the bad motor glitch.....it was VERY GOOD the first time out.........
Good job on the car guys.......
I agree, 1st time out no adjustments and the car was very good. Great kit, the instructions leave a little to be desired, but not impossible to understand.
Still a couple of laps behind Danny B., but very competitive with the rest of the field, a little change in my driving style because it does turn so well, maybe the sky's the limit.

Stewart Whitaker 09-30-2002, 07:42 PM I put mine together friday and put it on the track sat. morning, this car is awesome! I did'nt set no record and didn't win the a-main , but that was my fault, not the car's . I have been running racetech cars, but I think I will have to sell them and get another one of these. I usually have to run my dual rate at about 15% on my mac attack but with the exact same setup on this car I can run it at 10% and the car is awesome in the corner's, I want to experiment with some different setup's for sure on this car.
:D
Stewart - Can you share the setup from BMS? I'll be there on the 5th visiting and plan to race.
MIKE VALENTINE 10-01-2002, 09:19 AM glad to see that everyone likes the new car. ask away if you have any problems some one from the team will be more the glad to help. mike

MADDOG 10-02-2002, 12:00 AM Tractionroll, thank's for the help you gave my partner an myself at the Region race. Motor was good but car was way to tight. Killing myself in the corner's.
See Ya next week. :D
