what kind of offset rear vs. front, what kind of treadwidth and wheelbase does everyone use? I have tried a variety of options and was wondering what others have found as far as limiting scrub and helping handling.

You're not going to find a new pro two team version lower than $300 I don't think! Murdock has the best set up on them though the one with the HPI center shock and new center shock mount for $350.It's a good deal because you won't have to buy anything else. The only upgrade's I've made to mine thus far is the red Sylva side shocks, and ceramic bearings.

The SSE Pro2 Team Version, shouldn't they come with the new CF lightweight shock mounts? What else will they have, being the "TEAM VERSION"? I use HPI center shocks from my other oval cars(KSG/ADX/L3). Speedworld have them for $319. Wanted to see if there is anyone lower.

I'm just trying to get my car to scrub less in the corners. It drives well, very neutral, but seems to scrub speed so I am trying to get rid of that. I run on black ozite on a short flat and a short mildly banked track 4 cell 27 turn. I have moved the offsets around and picked up a bit as well as messing with the rear steer.

let me know!

It could be your tire selection also.
Are you running what the fast guys at the track are running?

When my car scrubs it's usually a result of the front end binding up.
Make sure your kingpins are moving smoothly. Nothing is bent.

I had a problem recently where my upper arm eyelet that holds the pivot ball kept cocking when I took a tire off and put one back arm.
Even though the kingpin felt smooth, the bind of the eyelet piece cost me about a lap.

I know the car is free and unbound suspension wise. I polish everything every week. I also take the moving pieces apart each heat to ensure nothing has happened. I won the A main last time I ran but I know there is more to be had as far as rolling through the corners. Thanks for the ideas though. There may be a better tire selection perhaps. I am running green rears a green right front and a pink left front. Maybe I am producing too much bite with these compounds.

thanks for the input!

You can try a harder tire on all 4 wheels. This will help get the car "out of the carpet"

Another thing you can try is one rate stiffer spring up front and one rate stiffer in the center. A stiffer spring may help your corner speed.

I just gotta' give a big thanks to Jeff "Humpty/FatBoy" Helms. He is such a great guy. All of his help the last 2 days really paid off. We were at Chatham last night practicing in stock. Car was so awesome.

The last run of the night was against Humpty in stock. Brooks got the whole shot off the line but down the backstretch Humpty ran him down (12 amp charge). Both guys ran a conservitive line through 3 and 4 and then Brooks pulled him a tick, down the front stretch. Humpty would pin the car low and Brooks (still unsure of the line) would run a bit conservitive. Humpty would gain in the corners but Brooks would pull more speed down the straight. Brooks caught the left sides off the track out of 4, at about the 2 minute mark, and gave up his straightaway lead. This allowed Humpty to get by, but 3 laps later Brooks passed him and pulled a full straightaway by the end of the 4 minute run. Jeff charging at 12 amps hurt the pack. The car just tailed off the last minute of the run. Brooks ran a 38 4:04 and we estimated Jeff at a 37 4:01 or 4:02. Brooks did an awesome job last night and man was the car free and efficient. It was great to put our car against one of Humpty's to really see how it was. Jeff's car was a tick tight and I know his 700 is faster.

Big thanks to Humpty for all of his help. The set up he gave us was dead on the money. I built the car, gave it to Jeff to set the tweek, and the rest is $$$. We have not touched the car at all. It is exactly the same from the set up Jeff gave us!

Thanks FatBoy for all of your help bud!

Team Hyperdrive does it again. Last night at Chatham 3 track records fell.

Jeff "Humpty" Helms broke the 19 open record by 5 laps

Mike Wilson broke the 19 zero record by 1 lap

Brooks Derting broke the stock record by 2 laps

Humpty was on a 700, Mike was on a PRO2, and Brooks was on a PRO2 shorty. 3 different cars 3 different records. All Hyperdrive baby.

Congrats to all of the winners and new track record holders.

Herbbie Coulbourne of Herbbiesized Motorsports designed one based off the Hyperdrive car. He sells the kit (roller). This is the one that was ran as a demonstration class at the Norrca nats at Classic Hobbies.

If you would like his Number email me and I can hook you up.

[QUOTE=Racin Steve With a center spring too stiff the car will be real nervous and itchy through the turns (usually fast if you can hold on to it!). With a center spring too soft, the car will be real sluggish through the turns (usually real slow!).

Steve.
Team HD[/QUOTE]

Steve, does this apply on steep banked tracks as well? I'm running a 24# center spring which does in fact make it nervous in the turns, but the car is also scrubbing a lot of speed in the turns. On a high banked track, what would be the effect of running stiffer springs and oil on the right side?

Thanks,
Lisa

Racin Steve

You're probably running a gold wolfe pro-tc3 spring (24#) on the center shock, that's what I ran at BMS last year (paved Nats). I beleive it was the right spring then, I liked the way the car held up through the turns. On high banked tracks the center shock is crucial ... on flat tracks the side shocks are crucial ... I'm sure you get the picture.

Once you've picked the right spring you have to set the droop properly, you need a lot for tracks like BMS, I also put a 0.020" shim under the front pivot ball and then set the spring preload so the t-plate sits perfectly flat on a race ready car (including body). The t-plate will not be flat with the chassis because of the 0.020" ... very slightly but still not flat or parallel with main chassis.

Get with a fast guy and make sure the front end is right as well.

Hope this helps.
Steve.

Hey all (and mostly Eric :) )

At the Gates flat track race--my first oval race on carpet -I came in with my dual Rate like a 12th scale on-road car and backed it down 10% every round-even in the Main I was still turning it down. As I did I got a little quicker and car got a lot easier to drive. I think I went from 95% EPA right left and 84% DUal Rate down to like 56% dual Rate and like 74% EPA l and r. Wow!! But-I had the only car there that was chattering in the corners. I'd like to check set-ups if I may and see if you guys can spot anything.

Hyperdrove 510 w/ protoform Monte Carlo HD and BRP wing.
FRONT
Red Prog. Wolfe right spring.
Green Wolfe Left spring
4.2mm ride height
Left front White BSR 2.35"
Right front Grey/Silver BSR 2.32"

#30 wt. oil in all shocks. BLue spring left, Silver right and IRS Silver on Center.
Pod stock position. Center shock two holes down on new shock mount.

Axle (3) 0.020 shims on left. WHite BSR Right, WHite BSR left. 4.5mm ride height.
0.064 fiberglass sway bar.
Traction compound was Paragon FX.

Thanks,
Ray
p.s. Dont run Oval-so let me know what other info is required.

Ray,
I thought you did very well for the first time in an oval pan car race.
I am sorry I did not have more time to help you out, but running the 2nd class I was strapped for time.

I am not sure what the rate is on that IRS silver spring. Their site lists it as a 27.5 lb spring. If that is the one you were running, that is most likely the cause of your problem. I was down to an Associated silver spring (3 lb) , 55 wt #2 piston to handle the bumps.
I ran the same tires you listed above, same side shock oil and springs.

I have my complete setup recorded in Microsoft excel. If you have that program let me know I can email you my setup.

Hello Eric,

Thanks. I was watching you guys like a hawk while marshalling-studying your lines . Thats why I marshalled one race at one end and the other end the next.

The center spring was a 6lb silver spring from I think Wolfe or maybe IRS? I bought the pack of super long springs (5-10 lbs I think) at Classic on Thursday.

I do have Excell!!
Thanks again for your help,
Ray

You must have gotten the Silva set
Gold 5lb
Silver 6 lb
Copper 7lb
Black 8lb

I started off with the Copper spring above and ended on the Associate Silver 3 lb

Ray I emailed the setup sheet to your kartchamp email.

In excel you will see a blank setup sheet.
At the bottom, click the tab titled "Southgate"
Should be everything you need.

Thanks for set-up. BTW-do you know what wheelbase car I own? hahaha!!

erock1331
06-21-2004, 01:12 PM
Hmm I know you had the 510 BT chassis but not sure if it had the long or short chassis under it.
Measure the wheelbase from the kingpin in the front to the middle of the axle in the rear.

If you have the 510 shorty chassis then it should be 9 5/8".
I ran my SSE2 shorty chassis in the short position and it was 9 5/8".
