Got a 5hp horiz* shaft briggs with a roller bearing on the PTO side of the engine inside. Its blocking the view of the timeing mark for the cam. Im trying to put the engine back together. Is there a way to get it off without destroying it ? or find out exactly where the timing mark is for the cam ?

Look at the crankshaft a little closer;

1 more question. Do ALL of those engines have that steel strap across the bottom of the bearing cap for the connecting rod ? this cap uses the 5/16 head on the bolts for the cap. I know the 1/2" bolts have that strap and the corners of it folds over to lock the bolts inplace but not sure about the kind with 5/16"

Update: Appears the engine block and piston are no good. After putting the oil sump on (side cover) everything seemed to work fine engine spun nicely and everything was putting the flywheel on and the engine spun a 1/2 turn and and stuck. Took the head off and it had what appears to be prociline from a spark plug inside the combustion chamber and it got between the piston and cyclinder walls. cutting several deep gouges. Oh well you win some you lose some. Parts engine.

I wonder if a machine shop could put a steel sleeve in it for you? Might be worth a call.
