just find a new style coil and then you can throw the points away!

I am not as experienced as alot of the others on here. The only points I have seen have a copper ground strap soldered onto them, like the picture below. What is the model number of your engine?

i imagine the white wire goes to kill switch and black goes to coil

bet the wire is a kill, remove it, cleand the points with some fine sand paper, use some paper money to wipe them clean, its lent free, set them at .020 with the plunger at the highest point, you should be able to rock the flywheel back and forth and get spark, if not get a new sets of points, also sand the but very light only a few passes, good luck, Light Mechanic

Are you sure the 2 wires are attached to the points or are they coming from the coil? Post a picture.

Usually both wires are black. One should go to the coil, the other wire is for a kill switch. It simply grounds to the engine to short out the primary winding in the coil and stops the spark. If you are not getting any spark, make sure the wire that is not connected to the coil is not grounded anywhere.
