Very sad to hear the news of Lloyd Ruby's passing, but from the generation of racers he came from, he was surely blessed as many of them didn't make it past the age of 30.

By the way, the driver in that picture sure looks like Parnelli Jones.

The article shows a fantastic pic of Lloyd, AJ, and the Captain.

Too bad. I was always a big fan of Lloyd Ruby. When I was a kid, I wanted nothing more than to see him win the 500. I guess he now gets another chance to race with the other racing legends who have moved on to the big banked oval on the other side.

Many will remember Lloyd Ruby as a somewhat tragic figure due to his indy career. Bad luck seemed to dog him and he refused to see the rear-engine as the new future.

However, in the sports car racing scene, he was a winning force to be reckoned with at the wheel of a Ford GT-40 or GT-40 MKII. He did particularly well when partnered with Englishman Ken Miles. The duo won the Daytona Contenental in 1965 (it was not a 24 hour race yet) as well as the 1966 Daytona 24 hours and the Sebring 12 hours. All three wins were in Shelby American cars.

Like many drivers of his era, he would drive any type of vehicle he could get his hands on. IMHO, he was a great American hero and will be missed.

More one of my Dad's heroes, but as my Dad is one of my heroes, sad for me too.
