There's a saying... things are bigger in Texas. As infamous and sometimes ridiculous as it may sound from time to time, I've always kinda liked it (being born and raised here).

Still I can't help but thinking that this guy is compensating for something.

Please note: these pics were taken from the driver's side of a full-size Toyota Tundra.... when we were at the light and he was immediately next to me all I saw out my window was shocks and struts... 4 of 'em on the front anyway.

Compensating? Maybe. You're in Texas, though, so it isn't really unusual. You should see some of the trucks here in Cali. If I had it my way, every household in this country would have a lifted dually. Looks all-American to me. My truck would be lifted so high it would have a de-icing mechanism on it. I used to live in Abilene and then Shreveport, Louisiana and big trucks were a common sight. Just my http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/2c.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org). BTW, the pic with the dually next to the SUV really puts things in perspective. A nice reference shot. The only thing that truck is missing is two flags at the tailgate: one American and one Texas and a huge Dallas Cowboys flag in the center of the bed.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-basic/biggrin.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)

I have seen plenty of monster trucks in my area. Once a real one drove when a competition was over. yes it is big in Texas.

yep, I didn't even notice that the Expedition in the next lane looks more like an Escape by comparison. And this isn't the biggest thing I have seen on the road... I've got another pic of one taller than this going up I-35 a couple years ago. (just got to get it scanned first)

At least it's not a dually sitting 1 inch off the ground. Remember that trend? :freak: Hey Jefferson, I was building Tundras down here. That is, until Toyota got rid of us temps, Uh, Uh, I mean variable workforce.

I love that it's a dually with skinny tires, not just another "monster truck".
It may be rediculous, but at the same time it looks like it means business in a work truck kinda way.
Cool pic!

Funny you should mention that.... I would have killed to have your job a couple months ago. When did you get the axe? I was at Applied Materials making semi-conductor wafer fab chambers and such trying to meet the demand for the new Samsung plant addition down the street but once they got all their stuff...... orders just fell off and I been on the 'ole unemployment since mid-January. Even Walmart and Target are cutting back on hours... little or no where to turn around here.

I also used to work at the Nissan plant in Smyrna, TN back in '94... miss that place.

Let's start with Motorola (Oak Hill Austin). Axed in 2001 after 9 years. Security guard on Federal contracts for the next 5 years (I actually made more money than at Motorola). I moved to San Antonio because the wife needed to. The only way I could get hired by Toyota was by the staffing company that they employed. After 14 months (19 months for some) we were all axed, in August of last year. Got a job, almost immediately, with a company that is contracted by Caterpillar, to machine some of their engine blocks. Got the axe from that one last month. The irony is that Caterpiller is building a new plant in Seguin. I'm gonna take a break for awhile. ;)

Jeff -

While that is one sick truck, I can't begin to state the over kill and wonder the necessity of a "beast" such as that.............

Good for him; I hope he enjoys it. What I worry about is busy bodies thinking it is inappropriate for others to use the vehicles they prefer. We don't all need or want a Prius. Drive a V-8, V-10, V-12 - I don't care. Enjoy your vehicle; it is one of the freedoms we still have in this era of an intrusive government. If you can pay for it and don't mind the fuel, insurance or maintenance costs then drive exactly what you want and don't worry about what anyone else thinks or says.

absolutely..... up until the economy started playing a much bigger role in all of our personal decisions I was driving a Ram quad-cab Hemi and loving every second but then reality moved in. Now I am sorry I ever sold my '91 Civic CRX HF... all it needed was a new motor.

my dad was trying to talk me into applying for the Cat plant too. I wonder if he is aware of the daily mileage to Seguin and back to Austin ?!

I'd got broke from gas prices alone to negate any pay they could've given.

Between Austin and San Antonio, I briefly lived in San Marcos, right off of HWY 123. That drive to Seguin would have been not too bad.

i rather like the look of that truck. remember when all the trucks and vans were tooling around with cragar ss and big fat 50's on them. back in the early 80s my brother had a half ton gmc van. alum slots all the way around. exhaust dumped straight into side pipes. you could hear him comming from miles away. was a nice van til the oak tree jumped in front of him.
