Pulled the 5.5HP Tec Engine off my nephews go-cart to fix and resell. Engine is in great condition except its a little cold nature. And the shaft for the govenor that goes through the engine block is very loose in the hole. Is there a way to fix this ? Basically with the engine running i can move the butterfly on the carb and it has full range of movement without ever moving the governor.

Engine Model: OHH55 69036C (H)
Engine Family: TTP195UIG1RA

update: I pulled the side off the engine to get to its internals removed cam and so on and then removed the govenor rod that goes through the engine and sure enough it shows signs of wear on the shaft itself So im just gonna snatch 1 out of another old engine and put it in.

Ok i got both engines apart the older 1 is a OHH50 with a cast cam the newer engine is a OHH55 with all plastic cam is it possible to use the cast iron cam out of the OHH50 ? Also the plastic cam has little fins on both sides of it I guess to sling oil the cast iron cam doesn't.

I'm confused. Thought you were looking to replace the governor shaft, but now your talking about switching cams. Can't tell you if the cams are the same - you'd have to measure the lobe hight and compare the two for timing. Don't see why you couldn't swap them out, but the lifters (AKA tappets) may be different, and I'd figure the crank gear would have to be metal to drive a metal cam.

Well i didn't want to start a new thread for this engine. Yes the govenor shaft is replaced now, got everything cleaned up and going back together with it. The cam is all plastic. the crank is all cast iron. I personally dont like this setup which is why i would like to put a cast cam in it.

Again, I don't see why you couldn't. I seriously doubt Tecumseh would have changed the composition of the crank gear unless they made it plastic. I've seen metal drive plastic(minlon or phenolic) before - nothing new there. But the tappets may be different. You can compare the two engine tappets by looking up the IPL's at
