Hey Kevin is looking for a club or individuals to run or assist at the track so he and Kim can run their business inside. We get to use the AMB system and Kevin said a new PA system I believe is in the works. Also I mentioned to assist in starting at 10 am instead of 11 am. How does everyone feel about this?

Well, I work third shift, so it really doesn't matter. Either way, I'm probably not going to make it out as often as I'd like due to my schedule. The one race I attended last year made for a really long day for me.

I'll probably be out to practice a lot, though (just as fun for me). Kevin, are you guys going to keep the same days and hours for this as you did last year?

I'm also interested in hearing more about the idea to put in an oval at M40. Has anyone else brought this up and offered to help build it or was it just something you were thinking about doing? Like I said, I'm sure it would bring a lot of racers in who are into that class. Also, I've talked to a few people in the area who were reluctant to get into it simply because the only tracks offering this style of racing are so far away.

I'll come out and race a few of those days for sure. Sounds like fun Duck!

Second on the oval, but I know it's a lot of work with little reward. I'd support that even more.

I work every Friday night (have Saturday and Sunday nights off). Even on the days I'm not working, I still have the same sleep schedule which involves me going to bed around 6:00 AM and getting up around 2:00 PM. :(

Looks like it's a pretty loose dirt type track? Will the track be open for practice prior to May 9?

gotta get a Gobles race package put together.

Haha, I'll probably work something out. As soon as the weather gets nice and I get out there again, I'm going to be itching to race. I gotta get a bit of practice in first, though. There's one jump out there that I CANNOT get over without flipping my truck.

Steveo,to answer your question, If you guys are running the track you can add hours if needed. You can also add more races if you guys want. What ever we can do to help... Kevin

Yeah, it's loose, but not too bad. Mostly in the corners. The jumps are clay on the peaks so they keep their shape pretty well. A medium size pin tire works great out there for stadium truck. That's what I'm using anyway.

I remember Kim saying last year that they had people out there playing when there was still a bit of snow left on the ground. I doubt it was groomed at the time, though. I suppose whenever we get a week of consistent nice weather, people will be showing up to practice regularly. Shouldn't be too long now...

Honestly it would be tougher for me to swing starting at 10 am. I would have to get up at 5 am (at the latest) and drive 3 hours, race all day, and then drive 3 hours back. A few years back i was doing this when I raced on road at Adrian, Michigan and I was falling asleep at the wheel on the way home -

Personally it doesnt matter to me when the race day is over - if it ends an hour later in the day that is better for me than having it start an hour earlier.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey not a problem to leave it at 11am, Just was thinking some had mentioned racing here at 131 so the time change was thinking of that. But 11 is fine I live so close that time doesn't mean anything to me. Also I was talking to another racer he was talking about getting a slash to race there also. Looks like we could be moving in the right direction for electric class.:woohoo:

Start time - Yep its OK whatever you folks decide.

Midwest Offroad Racing League it is a monthly series that races around the state, last year it raced here. And for some unfortunate circumstances it won't this year but if we build up client el and Kevin keeps the track going maybe next year it will return.

Duck, I'd like to head out there and check the track out sometime soon. It would be nice to have something close to race at sometime. Got some other guys interested in getting started, having a track close will help.

Sounds like a Friday night after work might be a good opportunity.

Highs in the mid-fifties on Friday. 30% chance of rain, though. I think I got enough fuel left over from last year for a night of practice. I also have a new Chaos buggy that I have to break the motor in on. I might be able to join you guys. I have something to do, so it will depend on when I'm done. I also got to get things ready for racing on Saturday. We'll see...

nice big track, but gets boring fast with no jumps to speak of.

What's up with that? Is it in that bad of shape?

Here's something cool. I'm not sure if either of the guys from Benton Harbor that practiced with me a couple of times last year post on this forum, but does anyone remember the day M40 briefly became a motocross course for mopeds?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj9Kl_M1-Nc

I came across this shortly after it was put up on YouTube (the M40 footage is at 4:52). I thought I'd try to see if it was still on there and it is. We were all out there practicing and seen all these guys roll up and we were like what the? Everyone thought they were going to start something, but they were pretty cool. They hung out a bit and watched us run our nitros and took some pictures. After everyone was finished Kim let them try out the track.

I'm still planning on showing up. I won't be practicing, though. Will have all my stuff packed up for racing on Saturday.

It will be fun to get out there again and play some games and drink some weird pop. Kevin, were you guys able to restock that original flavor Moxie yet? I really didn't like it too much, yet I'm compelled to drink more of it.

M40raceway
03-25-2009, 07:01 AM
Hi Steve, Yes we were able to get the original Moxie soda pop again about 6 months ago. The company was sold and it took a couple months to get everything back to normal. People either love Moxie or hate it. I like it.

I will be out to the arcade/track on Saturday about noon. I'm going to be there discussing the upcoming Kalamazoo Arcade show, but after that we can talk about the Track and figure some things out.

Had a good time tonight even though the wind and cold kind of spoiled it. It was nice to hear and smell the nitro again. I was surprised that the track was still in pretty good shape aside from a few washout areas and those mole mounds.

Don, sorry I couldn't offer more input on the layout. You and Scott know more about that sort of thing than I do. I've only been in this hobby again about a year and a half after just messing with it a little when I was a teenager and M40 is the only off-road track I've run. You've had a lot more experience on different tracks and seem to know what would work best in what area. I'm sure whatever you decide on will work out just fine. I'm here for the work. Just let me know when you want to get back out there again and I'll be there to help. Like I said, I'd also be willing to come out the night before the races and prep it. Whatever I can do. Thanks again for the tips and parts tonight, also.

It was also cool to get the ball rolling as far as talks on the oval go. I think the location we were looking at would work awesome. I'd also be willing to help build and maintain this whenever something gets set in stone. Who knows if we could get everything done by the end of the season and get a race or two in. If not, it would at least be nice to have it finished and have it around to look forward to next season. Like I said before, rather it be late model, sprints or trucks, I don't think there would be a problem finding enough people in the area to race it. Might even hook a few of the "off-road only" crowd and get them interested. If anyone here that races oval or races M40 wants to help out with this, let Kevin know. As is the case with the off-road track this year, we're probably going to need our own group of people to work on this and make it happen. Oval is a blast and I'd love to see this become a reality.

I'm thinking they would want them for off-road since that's probably going to be a bigger class no matter what. Depending on the positioning and how bright they are though, you might be able to cover both areas.
