View Full Version : Hay I finley found a Tow Truck for my Junk Yard
TJETDRAGRACER 03-15-2009, 12:19 PM I got this Tow Truck on eBay for $15.70 including S&H. It's a Mini Lindy 1/72 scale model mounted on a aurora chassis and a half ~ lol ~ You will see by the pics. I should get it in about two weeks. I plan on fixing the back two panels, Or may just cut off the back and mount a new bed to the cab and using the boom from the model on the new bed. ~ And hay if anyone has a Tomy Chevy truck body (The one like the old afx Fall Guy Truck Body) I could use the bed from it, I would trade a New JL Chevy Vega body for it. The pic of the Vega has a chassis under it but just want to trade the body only. ~ Thank's, Tom
Tazman6069 03-15-2009, 02:40 PM I would repair the sides and keep the dually.
slotcarman12078 03-15-2009, 03:10 PM I've been meaning to ask you about the lindy tow trucks. I recall running across a post by (I think) you from last summer regarding the lindy wrecker and came up with a solution to the problem. I took a chunk out of the front of the bed and milled out the underside to drop the height down to an almost acceptable level.

Check out the LED 101 thread for more pictures.. I believe I posted them back in October or November. If all goes well there might be a mold of this body in the future.

Wow, you got it! I almost ended up bidding against you. Must have been HTKarma or something that told me I didn't need this one and I passed. I am with SCMan, keep it as a dual axle and just rework the sides. You'll have a unique piece with you go that route versus other slot heads who have a TJet driven single rear axle MiniLindy mod. Unique is good.

slotcarman12078 03-15-2009, 09:16 PM I agree with Resin who agrees with me though it wasn't me who suggested to keep it double axle but I agree so it's ok!! I would patch up the sides with styrene and keep it a double drive axle!! It is unique as it is and with a bit of work it'll be a winner!! The single axle mold is still a ways off so patience will be needed for that. There may also be a molding issue regarding where I ground the excess material from the back to lower the body, and won't know if it is until it gets sent to the Molding pro!! Do what you want, but I would attempt to fix'er up as is first..

I'd tidy it up and keep it as the unique model that it is! Maybe a chassis upgrade though. ;)
rideinstile 03-16-2009, 09:29 AM I really like the idea of keeping it a twin screw.
And that is some chassis, a true tandem!!! NICE:thumbsup:
slotnewbie69 03-16-2009, 08:09 PM ok bill, that chassis is about the coolest thing i have seen all week,at least!nice work!does it skip at all when it corners?i know thats probably a dumb question, just seems it might...
Hilltop Raceway 03-16-2009, 11:51 PM Talk about a positive traction rearend!!! That is a cool work, of mechanical art!!! RM
TJETDRAGRACER 03-17-2009, 01:59 AM The majority rules, I am going to keep it as a double axle. I will attempt to fuse the half chassis to the main chassis like Bill did, I don't think that I could pull off making it a live dual drive setup throw. Just will be a floating axle setup. // Bill did you melt them together of just used a good brand of super glue or both to fuse the two together ? // ~ And if it wasn't for the Nice Lady that I won it from. As in taking a Money Order I never would be getting it. I hope that she don't get in trouble braking Ebays new PayPal Only plan, But I see a lot of eBayers sill taking Money Orders ? ~ A lot say paypal only but if you ask them nicely and have a good feed back they will take one 7 out of 10 times, that I have found. It brings back a little faith in ebay agine for me.
roadrner 03-17-2009, 07:10 AM Smart move!:thumbsup: rr

Yes! The gear plate rails from the rear addition over lap onto the main gearplate where the plate rails have been cut away. This creates a rigid flat plate when it is bonded. To bond the pieces together it is first tacked together lightly with super glue. The seams are then spot welded together using a fine tip on the soldering iron. Contrary to what ya'd think it all hinges off the gear plate rather than the chassis. The mod can be executed on T-jet, AFX, Magna and Specialty chassis.
The rear chassis addition/axle/gear is secured to the gearplate using the stock gear clamp. It is indexed vertically using raised portion of the chassis addition that was once either side of the rear comm spring. (see the little fork like thingy?) This area is notched to fit the main chassis. The end result is twin screw 6 by with rear set of drivers having some slight flexibility/float.
I'll get some video on the six bys in Model Murdering this week!
slotcarman12078 03-19-2009, 09:32 AM I must add this chassis conversion to my to do list, with a twist.. I want to extend the front fowards too. This will be the power source for the Norscot tractors I recently bought, but that's so far on the back burner that I can't even smell the diesel fumes.. The original thought of fabricating a brass chassis has been dismissed.. at least for now..
