Hello,

I want to buy new silicon tires, for my JL-AW tuff1 tjets, and for my tyco 440x2 cars.

The only problem : there is a LOT of diameters available. I'm think about buying SuperTires tires. For example, for the tyco 440x2 there is 5 or 6 tires diameters. 2 for the tjet tuffone too (medium and large). And to be honest, I'm not very confortable with US measures... :o

So I'm asking the specialists to help me making my choice...

Here's some infos on my cars :

tyco 440x2 wide pan : standard gear crown (quite big). I 'd prefer some tires with good handling, more than max speed tires. In my mind, low tire diameter = good corner handling, big diameter : good speed. But perhaps I m' wrong.

So I want to use low profile tires, but it must be compatible with my stock gear crown.

Here's photos for example : standard crown, low profile aj's tires (g-plus I guess). This tires are a bit too thin (less than a millimeter difference between crown and tire edge). Could cause problem on my tyco track I guess.

here a standard crown, and standard stock rubber tires. I think I can use a lowest diameter, no?

tuff one JL tjets : handling is my priority, and the tires must be compatible with stock AW/JL plastic bodies. Any ideas ?

thank you a lot for your help !

tyco 440's your best to buy a few sets of tires for, regarless of what Rich will tell you the lower postion of a 440 tolerances were lower then my personal temper control. so one set of rubber may be perfect on one, on the next it will be dragging on the rails. each chassis si a bit diffrent.. if you are going rtacing try to get a couple with the same cleance so you use the same tires all around and do not have to adjust your driving in the event of tyco meltdown..

The only problem is that I have to equip 4 cars of each chassis (for my home racing classes), so basically I need at least 8 tires pairs.

If I buy few diferent sets, it will cost me a lot ( and I have to add shipping too)...what I need are "all around" tires, for my tyco 440x2 non-magnet modified wide pans chassis (standard rear rims) and my JL tuffone (standard rims too).

If I see the specs of supertires for example, for that two chassis, there is a "medium size" choice. Perhaps my best move should be buying this ones...

Okay, big question is... what kind of track are you gonna be running on. If you're running AFX or Maxx track, the lowest I've been good with is a .438 Wizzard. But then you have to figure the layout as well. the afore mentioned would be good on a curvy track, but on a big track with, let's say all 16ft straights, you may want to go with .460s and pass all the nay sayers down every straight. (My first championship was a box stock class with no rear tire spec. Everyone else ran .438s to get through the corners faster. I ran .460s and looked like I was in a different class smokin everyone down the straights. Yes, you may have got through the corner faster bud, but I got there before you! Uh, well, that's a whole nuther thread.) Not all manufacturers use measurements though. We are currently using a supplier that simply classifies his tires as tall, medium, low, and low low. The low lows we use are similar in height to the short ones you have. As a matter of fact, this "box stock" class is allowing everyone to sand the bottom of the chassis smooth for these lower tires. We ruin these cars on a Maxx track that's so smooth, no one wants to run on any other track we have available, but that's a whole nuther thread. Anyways, if you sand the bottom of your chassis flat with a block or a nail file you should be able to run a lower tire. It won't be "box stock" in my opinion, but that's a whole nuther thread too.

Hope this helps, or at least starts another thread.

Hi, thank you for the answer. As I said in my first post, I run cars on a tyco 4lanes track ;)

for sizes, Supertires lowest tyco tire is 0.418 ("wwwlow"), and the biggest is 0.448 ("xxhigh")

What I need is handling, as I run without magnet. ;) other problem, the big standard 440x2 gear crown (see pic), limiting the minimal diameter. I want to keep the gear ratio, because it 's not too brutal.

a last question, what is the outside diameter of a stock (mounted) tyco tire ?

thank you

Hi,

I finally ordered some 0.442 supertires, what is slightly lower than stocks (0.466 I believe)....Hope it will not be TOO low....

I bought road race replicas kits too...I know it's not as good as tjet race parts, but it looks sooooo good...

When I 'll receive my new toys I 'll show you them, of course ! I'm already painting some lexan stuff for my tyco magnetless class ;)
