View Full Version : Win a 47 or 51 Chevy TJET Body
vaBcHRog 03-07-2009, 09:21 PM Not sure of the proper place for this.
Ok everyone it has been awhile since I had a contest so here is the same offer to Hby Talk that I have on the new Modeling Site.
Search the web, old magazines, books and family photos. I need to see pictures of Short Track 47 - 51 Chevys. Post them here. I will choose the top 3 and each will recieve their choice of a 47 or 51 Chevy TJET body.
Contest will run till 16th of March
Good hunting

Tjettom 03-07-2009, 09:46 PM Hi Roger, In all my years I never heard of such a thing as a 47 or 51 Chevy Short Track car. I know I don't know everything about those years but I do know the small CID Chevy 6 cyl.was NO match for the venerable Ford V8 flat head with all kinds of after market speed parts. I can't remember Chevys doing much racing until they introduced the 265 CID V8 in 1955 and then the 283 CID V8 in 1957.....If there was such a thing as a 47 or 51 Chevy Short Track car I am interested in hearing about them and their success if any....
Thanks,
Tjettom Baker
vaBcHRog 03-07-2009, 11:29 PM Surley they ought to be a modifeied out there also? I have seen some strictly stock ones but no short track. I do remeber some 53's that ran at Summerville Speedway howver it was a hobby stock class that allowed newer truck 6 cylinders. You could run any 6 cylinder motor you wanted in any amertican sedan. My dad had a chevy in his 53 Ford he replaced the Flat head eight that they put in it when the first started.

Most of the pictures I find are of smaller coupes...
Smaller, lighter. Makes sense...

Tjettom 03-19-2009, 11:42 PM Roger, I think I should be the winner.

slotcarman12078 03-20-2009, 12:33 PM I did some more digging and found something rather interesting.. 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS in the early 70's had an event called the Rookie Car Class. Requirements were: Less than 2 years racing experience, 49-54 US made cars only, 6 Cyl, Straight 8 or Flathead engine only. There is a small glimmer of hope that a picture exists. Unfortunately, I believe a modified V8 flathead would pretty much beat the head off a 6 cylinder so the odds of a 49-54 Chevy making it into the winners circle is pretty much zero. Unless someone archived their own racing history and drove the sought after car, we're out of luck.
