View Full Version : Any suggestions
Lon meagher 03-06-2009, 09:07 PM I just drove my new Lightning for the first time this afternoon. 60 degrees in Wisconsin is like summer. They sure get gummed up and dirty. This may sound dumb... but what is the best way to clean these things up? I dont want to just spray down the the engine and bearings with a garden hose. I always used Nitro clean on my 1/10 cars, but this would take like 3 cans. Any suggestions...............................
I would use a little simple Green and water in a spray bottle. Let is soak then rinse off/wipe off or better yet blow off with a air hose. I believe most of the bearings are sealed ( Somebody let me know for sure) there shouldn't be a issue. I Like to clean my bearings anyway.
Make sure no grass Clippings get inside the head area or you will have heating issues.
jsut my .02 worth

Slider 03-06-2009, 09:24 PM It shouldn't get that nasty under the body if you have flex tubing up by exhaust.
As well as running to much oil in the fuel.
jeffdavis38 03-06-2009, 10:29 PM Paul is right about the exhaust pipe. That will be the first thing you need to do. I take a rag with dish water and wipe it down and dry it off with a clean rag. then brush it down with a shaving brush after every run and it will keep it a lot cleaner I don't like the water hose or air hose they get that stuff wear its not suppose to be. Just my 2 cents worth.
Tim Mc 03-06-2009, 10:43 PM A good source for the flex hose.

cillbot6 03-07-2009, 06:50 AM About every 2 races I remove the servos, receiver box, and tires.....spray simple green on frame and aluminum......let sit for a couple minutes.....and then use a water siphon air nozzle at 100 p.s.i. I've been doing this for many years without causing bearing problems. I still use the original bearings that came with the car in 2001.
