View Full Version : A Tribute to Bluejayeh {The Old Skool Refugree}
cscustoms 03-04-2009, 01:03 PM I'm sure many of you here never heard of or seen Bluejayeh aka Jason Wheelers work. Jason became a refugee and right from the start blew everyones minds away with his highly detailed flawless customs. Before Jason, everyone was customizing with big Dub rims, shiney colorful paintjobs, etc and along comes this Canadian with customs that no one had ever done. Custom hot rods with the rustic aged look as many know them as Rat Rods. Even though ratrods was in the 1/1 scene, no body though of doing it 1/64 scale til Bluejayeh came around. Starting a whole new trend in the hobby and even getting the diecast companies to start producing ratrods cause they seen the high popularity with this style of custom in the automotive industry and hobby. Heck, Jason's first time at a Hotwheels Convention, wins first place and takes home best paint. First time ever taking best paint with flat colors with rust accents. After enjoying his posts of his beyond wild customs, Jason got a job at a local Hotrod shop and had to give up the hobby all together with no time to play with the little cars, he went on to play with the big ones. Where is he now??? Rumors have it, that he is coming back into the hobby, so keep and eye out for his work. In the end, this one is for you my neighbor, my brotha from anotha motha, a true Refugee, the Rat Rod trendstarter in this hobby and an Inspiration to many. If there was a list of the best customizers in this hobby in the world, Jason would be top 5 for sure and everyone who has seen his work up close would agree 110%. This boy has skills.
Now here are some of Bluejayeh's custom creations. If you have any pics, post them up and share cause they are all amazing to be shown. Thanks for reading and have a grrrreat day.:wave:

96gsfan 03-04-2009, 01:51 PM Incredible stuff. If those pics had been taken outside on pavement I dont think I would have known they were 1/64 scale.

BudJ63 03-04-2009, 05:45 PM Very nice work! Excellent rust jobs! :thumbsup: When will we see more?
69Stang 03-04-2009, 08:11 PM one word....wow!
Lummox 03-04-2009, 08:41 PM Good GOD!!!
zeb41 03-04-2009, 09:09 PM The man has an incredible sense of design and the skills to bring his ideas to life. These are truly living creations because their maker has left a piece of himself in each one of them.
Oh yeah, now I must destroy my cheesy little creations and go slay myself.
zeb41 03-04-2009, 09:24 PM I found a couple more images a Mr. Wheeler's work.

sschevyman1 03-04-2009, 09:31 PM That is some awesome work on the beaters,my favorites.
ClearHooter 03-07-2009, 05:06 PM Like the military flats. Agreed with what you say. But prior to the Rat scene didn't he do some very "abstract" sort of "Flash Gordon" designs? Or am I thinking of someone else?
dipstick 03-07-2009, 10:15 PM Clear - I think that might have been someone else..... The Sin City deal I think you are referring.
dlbdev 03-10-2009, 10:30 PM Any one know where he got those awesome wire wheels?
dipstick 03-11-2009, 07:52 AM I think they were 1/43rd scale if I am not mistaken hence a bit larger. Racing Champions had some similiar on the Hot Rods from days gone by.........
dlbdev 03-11-2009, 08:15 PM Thanks Dipstick
Night Stalker 03-13-2009, 12:25 PM Nice pics. Nice to remember some of those greats. Sadly, I only have ONE BlueJay custom. A tan rusted Taildragger. But is is SWEET. Don't have pics though. BlueJay was a great guy. I can't wait to see what he has been building in LARGE scale.
jlfphoto 03-13-2009, 06:15 PM Jason is one cool guy and a top notch craftsman. While he's been off building 1:1 Rods he mentioned making a comeback into diecast...I for one cannot wait. :woohoo::dude:
Here are some of his creations that are in my collection.

I let Jason do one for a collector friend that is into Way2Fasts. It came in a wooden box. I never saw it in person but from the pics my fried sent to me it is awesome looking. To bad for me he now is into 1:1 scale as I really would like to get one of his customs for myself.
