I put a thread in a diff forum for ESC options for my Clod, but now am looking for motor options as well. I know I need a forward and reverse rotation motor, and that different gearing makes it faster/slower. Here's what I have, and what I've been thinking, and would like to understand/know:

-I will be building a Clodzilla 2 chassis. Plans are to modify it over time as money allows. It will be an all purpose fun truck, bashing, racin a lil, crushing, crawling, etc.

-I have the stock 540's in it, and am wondering if the Emaxx 550's would fit, or be faster? They are $20 each for forward and reverse from Tower Hobbies.

-What kind of wiring will I have to do for the ESC? Do I need to wire the motors a certain way, like in series or paralell? And which is a better way to run?

-Names of motors and where to get them, or if you have them for sale.

Thanks for your info!

Most dual motor ESC's will have independent wiring for each motor built into it. When wiring with reverse rotation motors, wire it as you would normally. The motor is already setup for reverse rotation so reveresing the polarity isn't necessary. (reversing the polarity on a reverse rotation motor could actually damage your ESC) I would start with the stock motors you have and use a good quality ESC and battery/batteries. If you feel you need more power or speed, try different gearing setups; if that isn't enough, a good replacement sytem would be the ESC and motors from an E-Maxx. This is a 14.4V setup that requires dual batteries. Make sure you use a good quality battery pack to get the most power and run time. If these setups are still too mild for your taste, you could opt for a brushless setup. Be warned that going brushless would require extensive modifications to the drive train assembly to make a 4 WD system and you will have to replace any nylon/plastic drive parts with metal ones. (CVD's) Also note that the increased torque from a brushless motor, would require metal gearing in your differentials. I hope this helps. If anyone else sees a mistake in my advice, please chime in to correct.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

All really great points and advice! However, i'm not sure anyone offers a dual-motor brushless setup yet. On my clod, i run a novak super duty XR. It's pre-wired for 2 battery packs and dual motors, and single battery pack is also an optionwith some minor wiring work. For motors, i run ESP 14t matched motors, made for the clod. Mine's a clodzilla 4. hope this helps, and good luck!
