I was tinkering around the other day and noticed that a HotWheels Gran Sport Corvette will fit nicely onto a Tyco 440 X2 chassis. This was my first attempt at such a project and I am fairly pleased with the outcome. I know that the way I have the body attached is crude but it works just fine. Does anyone have any tips on a better way to attach the bodies. I thought about velcro, and some simple shims. I also thought about attaching a hollow piece of tubing to the rear bulkhead and sliding the body post through it. In the front, I drilled the stock HotWheels axle mount deeper down and larger allowing the front axle to simply slide in for the right ride height. The front wheels are a bit stiff because of the friction from the rear post pushing it forwards but it drives fairly well. It makes my stock Tyco controller get real hot really fast though. With silicones it goes real well, but in the sharp turns it tends to tip from the wieght. With the stock tires it is like driving an X Traction car with lots of slipping and sliding in the turns. What do you guys think?

I believe Scale Volvo, aka Volvo1, Neal has a nifty method for adapting bodies to the Tyco platform using plain styrene. It uses the factory chassis mounts and I'm certain it could be adapted to diecast conversions.

Looks great to me, Dyno. Video Jimmy has posted the most diecast coversions. Check out this thread for some ways to add slot car motivation to diecasts that have longer wheelbases.

BTW, the Green Light '07 vettes are alos a close match to either the 440X2 or Mega-G wheelbase.

Dyno,
Now you are getting it! Making what you want work. Looks great!
Wouldn't it be great if Mattel made more plastic bodies? Kinda throws the whole Die Cast Collector thingy out the window though...oh dang it!
www.smoothon.com is another possibility if you wanted to make these bodies out of Resin. They make a very affordable starter kit as do other Resin companies.
Bob...Drive it like you stole it...zilla

I would be interested in hearing about this, however this body was very narrow, and I had to shave off all the factory mounts and trim the bottom of the chassis so it didnt look like running boards.
