What type of Topper information are you looking for?

You might find some answers at my website. I updated it from 1997-2002 and even though I no longer update it, the information is useful.

I wouldn't give up on this board too easily. Bobby has one of the best collection of toppers around, but there are still some topper guys that visit this board.
Post your question and let-r-fly.

Well i have this old topper(custum tubine)mirror green, but it has mismatched wheels?redline wheel in front on driver side and a blackwall in rear, and the other way around on the other side .It looks like factory flaw. Is this rare?

Wow. would love to see pic's I've see Mirror gold and mirror pink turbines, never sen a green.. As for the wheels- All my turbines have goodyear redstripes, however you can pretty much find wheels mismatched on toppers pretty often. The only "rule" I've heard of is the mirror custom dragster has always been found with goodyear red stripe wheels on the front and blackwalls on the rear.

Mirror finish Johnny's were first run cars and thus should always be redline tires. Topper did not introduce blackwall tires until 1970 and mirror finish cars were no longer produced. You can find 1969 castings with blackwall tires (I have some in BP) but these were late releases of the 1969 castings in early 1970.
Dragsters were released with mirror finish but also had redline, not blackwall. All dragster mirrors were the ones with the bubble over the driver and the blackwall versions had no bubble. (see photo below, left is '69 and right is '70, neither are mirror)

The early Johnny's also had most with opening doors for their first run cars. Later '69 came out with sealed door Johnny's that in some cases are more desireable then the opening door versions because they are rarer (excluding ferrari and xke), but mirror finish usually always brings in the highest dollar amount. There are some rare exceptions to these rules, but 95% of the time these rules apply.

To be honest, the blue car posted in the message above does not appear to be a mirror finish, but a cleaned up gloss finish. Mirror finish cars are very unique.....(mirror on left of course)

Right. - Neither car in my post is a mirror. I should have clarified that.

The cars wern't assembled with any real dedication to quality.

Your car sounds like a car that had the wheels removed and put back on by a creative kid. As for it being a mirror. You'd have to post pic's of it.

The way you can tell if it is a mirror is simple. If you don't know for sure, then it is not. A mirror finish Johnny is easy to spot and stands out from the rest.........anyway, that's what I tell people. I only have 5 mirror finish cars myself. 4 purple and one red. I'd say 60% of the cars listed on ebay as mirror finish Toppers are not actually mirror so you must be careful. My first mirror finish Topper (a ferrari) I bought from a lot of 11 Topper cars off ebay, sight unseen for $15. The early days of ebay there were deals to be made and I did well on that one. I also over paid for many cars too, so I guess it all evens out in the end.
