View Full Version : Amazing C6-GT1 Corvette Replica- For $0 Bucks?
69Stang 02-25-2009, 09:04 AM Yes, it's true...$10 at my local Wally World! This is the new 1:24 scale JADA 2005 Corvette C6-R.
This bad boy is surprisingly accurate. The body is very well modeled, with the decals and placement being closer than I would have expected. The designers must have worked from the original release photos of the 1:1 car and not from a real race version. But the biggest variance from the prom. version to the race package was the "GTS" decal so not a huge deal. 2005 cars never raced with the "GTS" class designation. For the 2005 season, the ALMS reclassified this class to "GT1" to match the FIA's Le Mans series.
I did very little in the way of customizing, the main outside change was repainting the BBS wheels. Jada produced the original wheels in chrome, but the real wheels are made of Magnesium, so I had to shoot with a touch of German Silver. I also blacked in a few of the duct vent openings as well.
Now lets touch on the interior...WOW! Jada did a super job with this molded insert. As you would expect at this price point, the whole tub was molded in black and you just could not appreciate the amazing details. So a quick coat of grey primer and a little marker work to pick out various detail and I am much happier. This whole custom took maybe 1 hour from start to finish.
This release replicates the #4 Pratt & Miller Corvette as driven by Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin. This car and team finished second in the ALMS '05 points standing. I have no idea why Jada choose not to produce the #3 car which finished in first, but I will take a great race car anyway I can get it. Pratt & Miller Engineering has dominated the ALMS and Le Mans series for years with their amazing “R” Vettes. The Corvette is arguably Americas only world class sports car (certainly the only mass produced vehicle) and this car represents an important step in establishing that heritage. After only two events in 2009, the GT1 cars will be replaced by the slightly less powered GT2 racers. So this adds another desirable aspect to this wonderful diecast.
Thanks for taking the time to read over this quick review. I truly enjoy sharing a little history on the various road racing diecast that manage to reach the marketplace. As you know, I am passionate about my road racing and I delight in sharing these toys with other fellow enthusiast.

GLH Turbo 02-25-2009, 12:14 PM Wow! That is an awesome deal for only $10. I hope that they show up here for around the same price. I believe that in your opening paragraph, you meant to call it a 2005 C6R and not a 1995 C6R. ;)
I am a fan of the ALMS series as well and am glad to see the C6R in 1/24th scale and at such a great price point. I love the detailing work that you've done with the interior, really makes the details "pop".
One quick questions, are the tires treaded? or racing slicks?
69Stang 02-25-2009, 12:56 PM I believe that in your opening paragraph, you meant to call it a 2005 C6R and not a 1995 C6R. ;)
:freak: Opps, your tight...what a car for a '95 model! Thanks for catching that one:thumbsup:
The tires are low profile, treaded models. I just have to think of them as rain tires!
dragonhead00 03-05-2009, 06:39 PM Great detail! You got a great deal on that Vette! Congrats!
69Stang 03-05-2009, 09:08 PM Looking for the white one now, it was the #3 sister car to this one in '06! I will have to do the same touches and I think it will make a great pair in the display!
streaker 03-06-2009, 10:26 AM I need those...
jefferson 03-07-2009, 10:23 PM saw the white one the other day.... almost got it too. maybe I can still scoop it up if it still there.

GT350H 03-09-2009, 01:57 AM Very nice custom. Markers, what a good idea!
69Stang 03-20-2009, 07:21 AM Streaker, did you find your cars? Did you and Jefferson work it out? Just checking, I have found both here in the last few days. Just update if you have the chance.
streaker 03-20-2009, 09:51 AM Never got one.. still looking
69Stang 03-20-2009, 11:09 PM I do not mind at all picking up one or both for you (or anyone here on HT)for cost of the cars and true shipping. My only request is that whoever I get the cars for, they pay for them via Pay Pal.
Just let me know if I should pick them up. They run from $12 to $15 plus tax depending on where I find them. Shipping would me most likley be around $7 to $10 depending on one car or both. But I would drop by the PO and let them give us a true cost.
streaker 03-20-2009, 11:18 PM i want both.. zip- 84075
69Stang 03-21-2009, 07:25 AM Alright, I will start hitting the stores this afternoon where I have seen them this week, Wish me luck and I will yell at you tonight!

69Stang 04-14-2009, 07:24 AM WOW! That is a jaw droping recreation! Someone went to a LOT of work to decal that car up. I would do that in a heartbeat !!! They even included tons of body mods, but the one that I loved the most was the tow hooks!
At first I thought it was real, but I kept thinking something was not quite right. It took me a moment to realize what it was. MAN I LOVE THAT IDEA! Where did you see it this weekend?
streaker 04-14-2009, 09:49 AM I will take that one...No i didn't think it would be this hard to find those corvette's ..crazy huh

The Corvette was at the La Verne Cool Cruise Car Show, they have this event every year around mid-April. It's held at downtown La Verne in Cali. I go there every year and it seems like every year we get more participants, there were probably hundreds more cars this year.
I didn't notice the tow hooks, are you referring to that red little ring at the front of the car?
69Stang 04-14-2009, 11:13 PM Yep, that's those. This guy went to some SERIOUS trouble to do this. I mean a pretty close hood (OK not really, but it still looks cool!), front splitter, a close copy of the rear wing, even interior window straps! WOW! And to top it all off, that is maybe the single best decal reproductions I have ever seen. I wonder if he went to the same graphics company that Pratt uses?
Sounds like a great show. Thanks for the pics!
alex1485 04-15-2009, 01:59 AM sweet. I've seen one of the Older C6Rs. Your first pic is dead on angle wise... the next angled pic is sadly in the SHADED side
69Stang 04-15-2009, 01:22 PM Remember, this Saturday is the last time you can see the GT1 Vette's race in America! After the Long Beach ALMS event, they will take them to France for the '09 Le Mans classic and call it over.
As a team, Corvette Racing will move to the lower GT2 class and start a new chapter in thier history. I am so sad to see these cars go away, what monsters they are! To be next to them in action is something you will not soon forget!
Catch the race broadcast this wekend if you have the time, wittess a little bit of motorsports history in the making.
streaker 04-17-2009, 09:33 AM I have given up on getting those cars
GeraldE61 04-17-2009, 04:31 PM There is plenty of these on ebay not bad prices either
69Stang 04-20-2009, 09:07 PM Hey Streaker, I got a call today from a guy who told me a K-Mart in Cleveland had the yellow ones. He said they were around $17 or $18. I don't mind going over there tomorrow and grabbing it if you still are looking. Just say the word!
streaker 04-20-2009, 09:35 PM No.. i have given up on them. thanks for the effort but don't....
