If I were to run a 12th scale car with a novak 17.5 and a tewo cell life (a123) pack, what class speeds would I be close to? 17.5 lipo is too fast for our track, and I thought the lower voltage a123 packs would do nicely, any ideas?

why not run the 3.7volt SMC pack if you need less voltage?

You might want to give some more info on the batteries (like, voltage).
Like Brian said- the SMC pack is great in 12th scale. We run 12th scale with the SMC pack and a 13.5- it's stock speed.

Sorry for the lack of info-I already have these Life packs and they are 6.6 volts nominal. I am interested in the 1-cell lipo, but I want to give what I have a try first. There are no rules in our 12th scale class so anything goes. I am just trying to get a feel for how fast I should be with this combo. Thanks!

6.6 would be just a little less punch than a 6 cell NIMH, which I think is still overkill for 1/12th.

i ran a123 in my 17.5 4 cell car and i was in between 13.5 4cell and 17.5 4 cell times

a123 + 12th scale + 13.5 motor = a nice tweener 19 turn speed
