Then I used 220grit to smooth it out the milling marks then polished with 800,1000. Final finish buffing with mothers aluminum polish to give it a shiny chrome look. nickr112 03-05-2009, 08:05 AM or you can go the real cheap way and make one your self out of lexan.saves a little weight to. KenBajdek 03-05-2009, 08:59 AM Lexan looks cheap besides m ost of us have to add 1.5 to 2oz to make weigth anyway. Just got my "exchange" GTB back, awesome customer service! Question: will the use of a solid cover void the warranty? Not that you couldn't re-install the factory sink and fan prior to returning.... NovakTwo 03-05-2009, 05:08 PM Just got my "exchange" GTB back, awesome customer service! Question: will the use of a solid cover void the warranty? Not that you couldn't re-install the factory sink and fan prior to returning.... Carefully installing a cover would not by itself void our warranty. But it is possible to damage the MOSFETs if the HS is not removed correctly. We do offer to replace 6 cell GTBs with 4 Cell GTBs in our ESC service/exchange program. CClay1282 03-05-2009, 08:35 PM The only difference between the 4 cell and 6 cell gtbs is the heatsink and the way the rx and switch wires are hooked to the speedo. Personally i hate the 4 cell wires because they break off at the board. I would rather have the 6 cell version so with wires plug in. In short, you can run a 4 cell gtb with lipo as long as you watch speedo temp too! That would be my question also. NovakTwo 03-06-2009, 11:36 AM can we buy the 4 cell top plate to replace the 6 cell heat sink with and keep the reciver and switch as plugin replacemnent. That would be my question also. We plan to add the GTB plate and instructions to our on-line store. We only recently discovered that CS is receiving a number of requests for this service item, so we might as well make it easy to order. When the designers laid our 4 cell version of the GTB, they intentionally designed it with soldered in switch and input plugs---this was so that the esc would install better/flatter. No plugs sticking up because of the plug in pins. badoty 03-06-2009, 12:18 PM can we buy the 4 cell top plate to replace the 6 cell heat sink with and keep the reciver and switch as plugin replacemnent. That would be my question also. I would like to know the opposite can I buy a 6 cell heatsink for one......was told they would not sell me one......?? NovakTwo 03-06-2009, 01:36 PM I would like to know the opposite can I buy a 6 cell heatsink for one......was told they would not sell me one......?? We didn't think that users would be wanting to convert 4 cell GTBs to 6 Cell versions by replacing the metal plate---first that I've heard of it. I'm sure that there is some old, dusty CS policy that prevents selling the GTB HSs (or metal covers), unless specifically OK'd. We have not encouraged customers to do either because of the potential damage to the MOSFETs. However, if we add the plates and instructions to the store, there may be no reason not to also add the HSs. I'll check and see if this is possible. badoty 03-06-2009, 01:55 PM We didn't think that users would be wanting to convert 4 cell GTBs to 6 Cell versions by replacing the metal plate---first that I've heard of it. I have the gtb with the fan and heat sink and would absolutely like to run just the thin metal plate on mine. Thanks, Jay NovakTwo 03-06-2009, 06:48 PM Any word on how soon the top plate would be available for purchase? I have the gtb with the fan and heat sink and would absolutely like to run just the thin metal plate on mine. Thanks, Jay We are getting the info together to post an entry for our on-line store. Hope to have it uploaded soon. Keep in mind, using more than 4 NiMH cells on the converted GTB may destroy the esc. 6 cell usage, in most applications, requires the HS. jayp4969 03-06-2009, 06:51 PM I have the regular gtb and I'm actually using it with a one cell lipo. I'm not sure how much this matter's but while we are on the subject of destroying an esc I figured I'd plug it in here. captdan 03-06-2009, 07:34 PM So a GTB 6-cell/Lipo cut-off with Lipo, running 17.5 on oval should be OK with the plate??? NovakTwo 03-06-2009, 07:43 PM So a GTB 6-cell/Lipo cut-off with Lipo, running 17.5 on oval should be OK with the plate??? I'm not sure that you can get an "official" OK for running 2 lipos on a GTB without the HS. There are users who do run it with lipos in certain applications, but there are quite a few variables. badoty 03-06-2009, 09:06 PM PM me your shipping/contact info and I'll see if I can shake one loose...... You got PM..... swtour 03-06-2009, 10:38 PM So a GTB 6-cell/Lipo cut-off with Lipo, running 17.5 on oval should be OK with the plate??? Dan, We've run them that way since we started the 17.5 class w/ NO problem - and those running the 21.5/LIPO with the GTB are the same way... The cover from Randy Smith is a little thicker aluminum than the 4 cell cover and is machined nicely. How's things up in the Flagstaff area these days? http://allstar-shootout.com/images/ass09_ani.gif (http://www.allstar-shootout.com) CClay1282 03-07-2009, 01:02 AM I ran a 6 cell GTB with 2 cell lipo and a 13.5 motor in a touring car and the speedo didnt get hot. Maybe just the gear, but should work as long as you watch the temp. captdan 03-07-2009, 01:23 PM Dan, We've run them that way since we started the 17.5 class w/ NO problem - and those running the 21.5/LIPO with the GTB are the same way... Hey Joe, I have also ran that set-up all last year with a "shaved" factory sink with no problems ever! Just got an exchange GTB due to the fact that I melted mine with motor spray. I am just curious what Novaks stance on this update. And with the new/reman unit I do want to preserve the warranty ( although putting the capacitor on my car gives me pain!) Racing here still on hold for winter, as I gaze outside to very light snow flurries. Some guys running indoor 1/18 scale at LHS, but to small for 50 yr. old eyes and fingers! Take care, Dan Tourque565656 03-11-2009, 08:38 AM Good Morning Everyone, I am running 13.5 single cell lipo with the GTB. What is everyone setting their GTB to? I ran last night and was lacking straight away speed and it was a brand new GTB out of the box that night. I am thinking I might have had it set up wrong. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Scott KenBajdek 03-11-2009, 08:45 AM Use program 3 and take out all of the drag brake. Have reset the GTB? Tourque565656 03-11-2009, 10:42 AM Thanks for the input Ken, I will reset the GTB tonight and put it on program 3 with no drag bake. ALso should I turn off the lipo cutoff since I am only using 1 cell? KenBajdek 03-11-2009, 11:15 AM I would turn the lipo cutoff off. captdan 03-13-2009, 10:25 PM http://www.strykerracing.net/ At the stryker site - these ARE Randy's~~ http://home.roadrunner.com/~petitclerc/stryker/products/gtbcover.jpg Just received my BigBoysToys/Stryker GTB heatsink cover, NICE PIECE!
