As told to me by David Tilley, the bright one is a running change (change made during current production) to closer match the factory Mazda paint. Nice find. The blue one should be out now.

They seem to be fairly easy to find. I don't think the dark Mazda ran too long before the change. When I found mine, there was at least 4 or 5 on the pegs and I saw at least 2 at each store I visited. The dark one may be harder to get, but I don't think either is HTF.

Yes, this is correct. Matchbox occasionally make official running changes to models during production to better replicate the vehicles in question. The MB3 Mercury earlier in 2008 was one of these, and the Mazda 2 in green was significantly lightened during the 3rd (and last) production run of the green to better replicate the actual color being done by Mazda in real life.
