View Full Version : Sprint car spindle
KnoxMotorsports 02-21-2009, 12:46 AM I have been thinking about this project since ,I have been making parts for my WCM sprint ,One of the problems that I have had in the past is my spindle's , Personaly the bearing's in the hub or spindle does not bother me ,but the binding when I thighten the bolts down do [1/4 x 28 ] , So I made a new spindle ,well a couple sets of them ,, the wing man wants sum too,,, Robert
Sonny B 02-21-2009, 01:12 AM Nice job. Those fornt end parts looks really good.
KnoxMotorsports 02-21-2009, 01:17 AM Thank you I made the hubs for this project also ,Later this year i will be looking at making some spindle's for my WCM gn car ,,I posted a bunch more pics of the spindle in my photos Thank you again Robert

awsome!... master piece ya have there robert! what's yer next project of improvement in 1/4 scale racing parts.....i don't think yer a person that has a idle mind!!!
KnoxMotorsports 02-22-2009, 02:11 AM Thank you Jim , Your right about one thing ,,no Idle mind,,seems like I am always chasing after it . LOL Well thank you Lord ! I like this saying ,,The mind grows on what you feed it ,so feed it good stuff ! :) I have been thinking on the same line spindle's for my GN car ,I know it;s not necessary but , I feel some of the guy's racing the older WCM cars that have bearin's in the hubs wont part with the car, Makes you think????? , With what everyone has contributed to getting this far , We should have some very good handling sprint cars , Thank you again Jim well let you know when I ship yours to you

Jim you'll really like the steering rack and servo plate . I just got done putting one in mine and it's real smooth , with no binding .

i'm com'n randy...way ahead of ya on getting roberts work of art!!!!!
jbrooks39 02-26-2009, 12:42 AM I am a bit confused about the spindle and hub design. Is the outer bearing completely free/loose from the hub? Or is it seated inside the hub?
If it is not seated inside the hub, how does this affect the bearing?
Pieces look very nice indeed!
Regards,
Joe
KnoxMotorsports 02-26-2009, 01:15 AM The hubs use three bearing's , the out side bearing is more for tire and wheel support , These hubs are lighting , I had from , when I ran a lightning
After sum talk with WCM ,and sum other help [Randy ] ,, we have came up wth a idea to be able to use the stock WCM spindle ,It is a simple fix , If you own a WCM sprint car then you will know that after a camber adjustment there is a chance that the spindle's will get tight ,That is from the bolt[1/4x28] thighten down and pulling on the hiem causing it to bind a little
The cure has been easy ,,use a 1/4 x28 allen bolt on the top of the spindle
then use a lock nut run it down just far enough to touch the ball on hiem ;make sure to use the stock bolt in the bottom of spindle and tighten it down all the way , We also talked about drilling and taping A 4-40 hole in the spindle and locking the the upper bolt , Robert
mike watkins 02-26-2009, 07:40 PM This is what I do . I use WCM spindles . I tightened both top and bottom bolts all the way with loctite and then I take the tie rod bolt out and check the spindle for being free . If it's binding I set the bottom spindle bolt on something solid like my vice or a hammer head then I take a 7/16 socket put it over the top spindle bolt on the hime and hit it with my hammer . Then check it , if it's not free do it again . Once it's free put your tie rod bolt back in and it's fixed .
hopper61250 02-27-2009, 10:29 AM I just tighten the bottom spindle bolt then use a long set screw for the top. The spindle just floats between the hiems...no worries about binding.
