View Full Version : Scalextric 1/43rd Double Packs
Grandcheapskate 02-20-2009, 06:36 PM In Target last week, I saw four different "twinpacks" of Scalextric 1/43rd cars for $20 each. They actually come in a pretty attractive looking cardboard box with a backdrop of spectators.
The sets were:
31420: Vodaphone and Red Bull (Touring Car)
31410: Ferrari F1 and McLaren F1
31440: Blue and Yellow (Tuners)
31450: #17 Citi and #99 Aflac (NASCAR)
Has anyone seen other twinpacks besides these?
Thanks...Joe
slotnewbie69 02-20-2009, 07:05 PM i have only seen the tuners in twin packs,but i don't get out much:p
Not Scalextric - SCX - and no, though they look like they might be the same company, they are not. Scalextric is in the UK and SCX is in Spain.
The SCX twin packs you have listed are the only cars from this year, so far. There were some old twin packs from last year. One set was two tuners - one red and one green. And another twin set was NASCAR #17 Keneseth DeWalt yellow car and #99 Carl Edwards Office Depot car. I know there were some others, but can't recall right now. The F1 cars that are now available in the twin set were only available last year if your purchased the track set. The DTM cars are new this year.
SCX is planning on releasing more sometime this year - just waiting to see what new items will be released.
Hope that helps!

pickeringtondad 02-22-2009, 01:39 AM What's the scale on the track in those sets? Are they 1/43?, 1/32?, 1,24? I'm sorta curious if anybody knows.
thanks,
Bob
LeeRoy98 02-22-2009, 02:00 AM They are 1/43...

PD2,
Thanks for the correction on SCX verses Scalextric. I thought they were the same company.
I saw that set as well. There are two sets available; the other set may have the same Tuners as last year. I'm just not about to spend $60+ to get a couple cars. Hopefully, they will issue them seperately some day.
I'm always suprised at the low price of 1/43rd cars. They are far less expensive than new HO or 1/32nd cars, usually only about $10 a piece. Heck, I picked up a few Artin/Fast Lane sets at TRU for $10 which had two cars and track. Even these SCX cars are only $10 a piece.

No worries Joe. That's how those rumors get started about Scalextric doing 1/43. LOL! Just kiddin!
And yes, the 1/43 cars are cheap and have some VERY nice detail to them! I started out in slots in 1/32 and have a Scalextric track. Raced analog 1/32 for a while, then bought an AFX track and HO slot cars. Then I noticed the 1/43 cars - grabbed the Tuners at Target over a year ago and love it because I can race those cars on my 1/32 track! Two scales for the price of one! WOOHOO!! Having three scales and only two tracks is nice! The 1/43 cars are fun! If you ever want to built a kit, check out Ranch Design - AWESOME kit chassis! I wrote some more detailed instructions for Ranch Design's build up, so if you do decide to snag one, let me know and I'll e-mail you a copy.
Have fun with the 1/43 cars!

roadrner 02-24-2009, 11:09 AM Anyone have any pix of these? Last two Targets I've checked out in my area are slotcar dry. I assumed they be in the toy section somewhere, right?

i like the 1/43 cars.but they are really geared at kids.they are seen as introductory cars to the bigger scales, the idea being a stepping stone to the larger more expensive scales.i think this is why they are so inexpensive.they are not as popular either,so the store could just be trying to get them off the shelves.they handle ok,but my carrera mustang needs some weight to keep it in the slot.they are fast, fun little cars, however, and PD2 is right, they work great on 1/32 track, even copper tape.

Yes, in the toy section but you usually have to hunt for them. They aren't normally placed with R/C and Diecast car section where you would think. I have found them in the middle of the board game section and just on end cap displays.

Really? The Targets by us usually have them in around the R/C cars and areas like that. And no, Target is not getting rid of them - they have a pretty long contract with SCX to supply these 1/43 cars in the stores and they supply the 1/32 track sets (and I think some cars) online. The issue is that they are VERY popular and Target can hardly keep them in stock. Every time I see them in the store, most of the track sets are bought up and there are only a few cars hanging around. Once I caught the shelf fully stocked...but that is not that often. Plus, Target is constantly rearranging their shelves for different seasons. They will put the cars and tracks on clearance, looking like they are getting rid of them and then all of a sudden they are relocated and fully in stock.
Here are the cars and some pics at SCX's website:

Grandcheapskate 02-25-2009, 12:20 PM In the 3-4 Target stores I have visited, the SCX cars, sets and extra track have been against the wall (rather than in the aisle) in the toy department. But, most of the time, almost everything is gone. You may find an odd box of track (which contains only 2-4 pieces) left over, but that's about it.

nutsandbolts 02-28-2009, 06:26 PM Every time I go Target I look for the scx stuff.
I started out with the tunning series set, I liked ow these cars ran out the box.
I bought another tuning series set and the F1 series set, more straight track and the banked turn track.
To me it is was more cost effective, get the extra track sections, power pak, controllers and the cars, some as back up for parts.
There is an out fit called Ranch-Design.com that make tires axles and gearing for the scx cars.
If space is the factor then scx 1/43 is the way to go.
Just got back from Target - they only had two boxes of cars on the shelf, 3 tuner race sets, and 5 tri-oval race sets. Track sections and other cars are out right now! These cars and sets do not last long on the shelf!
