Good morning starseeker, I think that would be me. I posted a short video of it running, it's in my photos folder. The thread was, "How's YOUR Seaview Coming along", post #145. I used some very small servos, like to ones used in electric Helicopters. I got 6 of them from China (EBay) for about $4.50 per and then modified them to spin 360. I have a good set of pictures on how I did the mods, if you'd like them just PM me. A little OT,these servos might work for the motorized fision core you had talked about in another thread. I do plan on motorizing the dish in my Space Pod, if this pancake motor I have fits. This motor is a three phase DC brushless, so it will take extra circuity to drive it, I hope I've got the room. I'm going to try it with just a 555 timer and a 4017 counter in SMT. I will post when I get to the Space Pod build. starseeker 02-19-2009, 12:07 PM Teslabe, I Knew it was you, but do you think I could find those posts? Not a chance. I'm thinking of doing a larger Seaview, actually, and I might have room. I love your animation. And also over at Cultman, the PL Forbidden Planet saucer is getting a motorized light unit, which is the only way to get that effect that I can think of. As for everything else, no I'm staying digital. The other: been there, done that. So I will go back and check out your posts. Thanks! teslabe 02-19-2009, 12:17 PM Teslabe, I Knew it was you, but do you think I could find those posts? Not a chance. I'm thinking of doing a larger Seaview, actually, and I might have room. Just let me know if I can help. starseeker 02-19-2009, 02:33 PM I was sure I'd downloaded that video of your spinning radar antenna. That is just too cool! Made sure I got it this time. I'd forgotten your Seaview computer wall and your Jupiter 2. I love the way you bring your models to life. They really, really do inspire. Between servos for the computer disks and chasers and flashing computer panels, I can just imagine what you'd do to a Time Tunnel complex. Edit: do you still have that link to the vendor you got those servos from? Either they're not on ebay right now or it's really not my day for finding anything successfully. Thanks again! teslabe 02-19-2009, 03:57 PM I was sure I'd downloaded that video of your spinning radar antenna. That is just too cool! Made sure I got it this time. Thank you very much for the nice words, Here is the link, they are $24.99 with free shipping, so that's $4.17 per. Let me know if you need the pictures of the mods. http://cgi.ebay.com/6x-MYSTERY-9g-Mini-Micro-Servo-RC-plane-helicopter-Boat_W0QQitemZ150327188624QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio _Control_Parts_Accessories?hash=item150327188624&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C2 40%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A2%7C294%3A50 starseeker 02-19-2009, 04:27 PM Never would have found that in a million years either, tho I did give up searching after only about 10 pages again. Just ordered them. They owe you a commission. I see that you have removed the top section on yours, no doubt the mod that you were speaking of. I'll see what I can do, otherwise I'll come begging, for sure. Thanks! teslabe 02-19-2009, 05:40 PM I see that you have removed the top section on yours I'm glad you got them, they are nice and small.... I'm not sure what you ment by "removed the top"? The one picture I posted is of my putting the top of the sail on, with the strobe light and servo's wiring being fished through the sub. The mods had already be done by that time and epoxied in place on the bottom of the sail top. You will need to take both the top and bottom of the servo apart to do the mods. These servos only swing 90degs, you will need to make them rotate 360 so there is a bit of work to do inside of it to make it spin... I thought I'd post some of the pictures of the mods that need to be made. The little legs on the underside of the final gear, in the front of the picture, need to be cutoff so it can spin. Also the feedback pot has to have mods made to it to spin 360. Hope this helps..... teslabe 02-20-2009, 11:11 AM And also over at Cultman, the PL Forbidden Planet saucer is getting a motorized light unit, which is the only way to get that effect that I can think of. An OT question. I preordered one of the C57D's, I was thinking at one time of buying one off EBay but I had seen some going as high $300....:freak: I'm glad I waited, is the motorized lighting unit included with the kit or is it aftermarket ? starseeker 02-20-2009, 01:11 PM Unfortunately, at this point it has to be scratch built. A beautiful example in the works is in this thread, page 4: http://www.culttvman.biz/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7302953 along with two of the most beautiful scratch built interiors I've ever seen. Oh, I can hardly wait to see what you going to do with this kit, if you add your usual lights and motion. I'm staying tuned. Thanks for posting the photos! I can't believe how packed that little tiny thing is. I now know exactly what I'm getting into. teslabe 02-20-2009, 04:33 PM Unfortunately, at this point it has to be scratch built. I can't believe how packed that little tiny thing is. I now know exactly what I'm getting into. Thank you again for your words of encouragement.....:) I don't think of myself as a good model builder, just O.K.. So I use the blinky lights and animation to distract people and hope they don't look too close, " Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain"...... As for the servos, be careful of the bodies of the servos, the plastic is very brittle and the screw's metal is soft. So don't over torque the screws and be sure you use a very good jeweler's screwdriver. The feedback pot is the output axle shaft, it's body is also very brittle and a tight fit, so use a small pair of flush cutters. At $4.17 apiece you can only expect so much. I run mine at 1.5volts, anymore and you might burn it up. Just look me up when you get them, here on the west coast, I had mine in about a week. Enjoy.... vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
