Looking great so far, Alexander! I particularly like the engines, spot lights and fusion core wall. Question; is there a provision for floor lighting, too?

Yes,there are three yellow floor lights as well. The kit includes, two headlights, three floor panel lights, two engine lights, two reactor lights(RGB),three interior lights, one bunk light, one tunnel light. There is room on the board to go crazy and add more lights if you want to.alex

By the tunnel reference I assume this is for the new Moebius Flying Sub?

It looks pretty good- it there also a general cabin lighting?

yes, this is for the new Flying Sub from the great ones at Moebius.there are three lights for the interior, and one for the bunk bed,but you can add more if you want.

I looked on the Voodoo FX site for the new Moebius FS lighting kit but found only the older Lunar Models version. Where can I find the new lighting kit?

When it is released there will be an announcement.

I too will be waiting for the announcement. I want to build the first FS with the lighting kit so I am holding off getting the new kit until the lighting kit is released. A price guess would help in budgeting though.

One of the problems in recreating the look of the original miniature is they built a much smaller interior--the rear wall is right behind the seats, and both that and the walls on either side of the forward windows are translucent to pump light in so there's always a great deal of light coming out of the forward windows no matter what the angle on the sub is. I think it's going to be hard to recreate that look with just a few LEDs on the ceiling...

falcon49xxxx
02-26-2009, 02:30 AM
Yes,Jeff, that is right,I am finding that out,but you can replace those walls with translucent material.

This is a Lunar Flying Sub I built up a while ago..Using Randy's First Light kit.
YOU CAN light it effectively..
However some folks confuse the On sreen Model with a Built Model.

As pointed out, the original Fying subs HAD NO REAL INTERIOR. Just the Milky colored clear plastic on either side of the Viewports and behind the rather crude Figures...In fact Moebius has Produced A BETTER MODEL than what we saw on TV!!!!!

===================================
That is OUTSTANDING!
I agree that the replicas of the filmed vessels often look better than what is actually built for use in filming- those are only as good as they need to a particular scene. The J2's interior was a strange fudge with the figures and the backlit grid and a lot of iconic ships are only one sided- thom the TOS Enterprise (season 2) to the Surlaco & Medical Frigate. Sometimes the second side is added for a exhibition, most of the time the models are just flipped and lettering reversed for the second side.

I think the Moebius Flying Sub is going to be MUCH better than the original as it is actually symmetrical- the curves do not match on the original one the way they created it. The interior is full and fits the actual exterior- I love the 'airlock' instead of the 'engine room' on the Aurora kit.

Your build up of the Lunar Models FS is fantastic- I have not seen one completed before and I know you had a lot of 'fun' building it.

This is a Lunar Flying Sub I built up a while ago.

First of all, I have to say, you did an amazing job on your Lunar build..... I had one of those horrible kits and just had no time to deal with an over priced box of flimsy plastic and warped resin parts...:drunk:
I found someone to take it off my hands. With what Moebius did I would think anyone who bought the Lunar FS feels ripped off, I know I did....
Now, the point of my post. Here is my idea for the Reactor Wall. With how cheap MP4 players have gotten, (about $40.00), it just made sense to go this way. LEDs don't cut it, the wall needs to be animated, like on the show.
This unit has a 3" TFT LCD display and fits perfectly in the space....:woohoo:
I will be using the rear hatch with about 1" of tunnel, for a board with all the relocated buttons, USB port, (for loading new video files) and a battery charger plug. If anyone would like more info, just send me a PM. I will be posting a short video in my "My Photos" folder.

Wow, that looks great!

I like the thinking you put into that...

Ok, now you have to figure out how to "pipe" a video signal to the control panel.

There is some real talent on this board, Me? I'm gonna glue Randy's kit into my sub and be proud..I'm a shlub

Steve

Richard Baker

That is a spectacular effect!!!

Which MP3 player was the donor and what program did you use to generate the reactor light flux?
I am truly inspired- that is such a great way to go with this- I had been thinking of using several of the LED 'Tea Lights' with colored filters but your solution is perfect!

I'm limited by the size of LCDs out there and right now the smallest I've found
are .25" and that is what I'm using in the Seaview's control room. The space
on the FS display's are just too small.....;)

It's a "No Name" from China and it's the fact that it plays MP4's that is key.
I do video productions for my company and the program I used was "Jump-Back" video backgrounds. I then pull them into Adode's AfterEffects to make them the right aspect ratio and change the color and hue. Then it goes into Adobe's Premire Pro for editing and exporting to a Mpg4 video file.

Richard Baker

Where did you find the 'no name'? I understand the MP4 thing- that makes a lot of sense. I don't own a kit yet but I really would like to have mine do a similar effect- it is just perfect!
What would be the minimum screen size I would need to look for so I can keep my eyes open for an appropriate donor unit?

Hi Richard, here is the unit. You need to be very careful when taking the back
off, there is an inductor that is very close to the edge and if you don't get it just right you will break it. I think it's for the FM tuner but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the link! I have a watch on it now.
I hope to get a Flying sub kit soon- I have been waiting for a good cash flow and the aftermarket goodness. There is only one critical thing missing from a good build now-
Is anybody developing lighted control panels for this kit yet? I have seen some nice decals but I am really wanting to have the panels seen through the windows to have lights- a couple of them blinking, for this uber-build I am planning on. I have been waiting since the sixties for a kit like this and I want it to be as perfect as possible. The video reactor wall has now upped the bar for all of the other details...
