I have a Pro Match 1/4 scale 1800 reciver pack that came with my new Lightning. Does anyone have any recomendations for charging. I am using a Duratrax Onyx 230 charger and the built in charge cycles are confusing. It is a 5 cell battery so I know it charges at 6 volts but even at low amp it doesnt seem to charge very long......

You can charge it at 4 amps. and set it on 2000 mah. but you may need to discharge it and cycle it a few times to get the most out of it.:thumbsup:I have a Pro Match 1/4 scale 1800 reciver pack that came with my new Lightning. If this is an nmih pack do not discharge below 4.5 volts (.9 volts per cell)

I am assuming its a NiCd battery.. honesty I really dont know. I cant find any info on this battery any where on the net..........

I would personally upgrade to a more milliamp pack than what you have. And go NIMH or lithium with a regulator. You do not want to have a low voltage problem on a 1/4 scale car. It could get real ugly. cost alot more to repair car than a new reciever pack. Just my .0002 worth.

We just use a couple turn signal lights to discharge our batteries after each race weekend... Seems to work pretty good!

Thanks for the discharge tip Denny. I'll try it out.......Hey Slider what is the difference between a NiCD and a NIMH ? ......

The Battery internal chemstry, polls & Plates.
(Nicd)Nickle Cadimum
(Nimh) Nickle Metal Hydride

NiCd's were bad to have a memory problem. They needed to be discharged very hard to clean the negative plates. This helped in destroying any charge memory & Voltage retension. Could lie dormant for months with a discharge resistor connected across the poles. Very user friendly but old technology

Nimh's have no memory rentension, lower internal resistance = higher operational voltage and less current drain. Charges almost like a Nicd. Be careful discharging this one, cell reversal and damage can result. Follow manufacturers minimum cell voltge if you discharge these.
Usuall .9Vdc per cell x 5 cells=4.5Vdc total pack discharge.

By the way I use a 4600ma 5 cell pack in my car. I can race 3 qualifyers and a main without a recharge. The electric racers are selling these packs very cheap right, going Lipo is the thing. I found three 4600 packs last month for $30.00, at 10 buck a pack I'm good to go.

I use a 5 cell 3800 Nimh. I charge it at 4 amps before I leave on raceday. It's good for the entire day. I never discharge it, just charge it again on the next raceday.

i use a 6 cell nimh and a voltage regulator that drops the voltage to 6.0 volts bought it off of tower and plugs right in to the receiver. I never seem to have problem with it but ive only been using it a short time.

I run a 5000 ma Lipo and charge it ones a month. I like the LiPo Battery a lot. Less weight also

thanks guys for all the input.I think I'll start lookin around for a more powerful battery, I like the sound of running all day and not being concerned with the charge.......

I was wondering about those regulators, what radio system do you use?
